Ariens 42" 19hp riding mower, identical to Husqvarna (both made by Husqvarna in SC) just stopped moving in the middle of cutting grass! Just my luck. Has this happened to you? If not, it probably will one day! It might be a simple fix!
Check it out.

OMG THANK YOU! I know nothing about riding lawnmowers, I have been trying to figure out what was wrong for days, i have the exact same model of tractor and same problem. Your video is the only information i could find on this particular problem. You saved me so much time and possibly money taking it somewhere to get it fixed.

Another thing to double check when you replace the drive belts or belts for that matter is if you didn't do it by pulling the pulley off of the engine because it was too rusted up or whatever. Make damn sure you bend those steel metal tabs back in around the pulley. They are there to prevent the belt from jumping off the pulley. You'd be surprised at how much I see that. Whenever I go behind someone else on a lawn tractor and it has some sort of drive issue and it just doesn't click in their minds that they bent those tabs out of the way to get the old belt off and then forget to bend them back in straight again after they install the new belt. Those tabs should be around an 1/8th to 3/16th's away from touching the pulley when you're done. Once the belt breaks in and stretches out and they all do it. It will start throwing it off the pulley left and right. So just something to keep in mind when your changing the belts.

It takes some effort if sized right. Push open end of clip onto stud. Use a flat side of pliers, or similar to take the impact rather than your thumb. If very high effort, you're not in the channel cut for the clip, it's twisting, or it's the wrong size

Good job man , I have many different tractors I bought from John Deere , Husqvarna , Scotts , Craftsman , I noticed thay all tractors are all the same , the only difference are the hood designs either made with metal or plastic . John Deere its crazy about their prices . John Deere products are over priced , for instance try to buy a stx 30 plastic hood used will cost you around $200 or more , new will cost you $500 , crazy isnt it .
@Teratoma-T
@Teratoma-T 3 года назад
Agreed. And their quality has tanked. Unfortunately my mother bought one a few years back living out of state and has paid the dealer thousands to maintain it. And it still has random issues. No Deere for me. The Husqvarna and Aierens (at least my model) are built on the same assembly line in SC. Most of the parts on this are stamped with the Husq name actually. Was much cheaper and I've had Zero major issues with it in 5+ years.
@wolfeman9791

Mine did that last year figured it out easy fix, but a very, very poor design. There's a lot of pressure on that and you would think they would have something better than a C clip
@Teratoma-T
@Teratoma-T 3 месяца назад
Couldn't agree more. Funny how a simple old school cotter pin would have held up much better, but that would've cost 2 cents more per mower to build. Thankfully the e-clip I installed and put a dab of adhesive on top of held up for several years until last year The Briggs Intek finally gave up on me. Same type of thing, crap design (thanks EPA and Govt. Emissions regs) on the compression relief cam. Overall the mower gave me a solid 8yrs with no issues. Changed the blades, belt, this clip, and that's about it. I was ready for the motor rebuild but a nearly fatal battle with cancer ruined that for me, had to settle and sell the otherwise still pretty darn good mower.

Pry at it with a flat head screwdriver or pliers

Unless you're saying the post snapped off. In that case, I am not sure. I'd refer to a lawn / garden tractor parts site with your model. Likely isn't a single part for purchase, rather may be part of transmission assembly and not have unique part number

Make sure the belt is still there and or not slipping tremendously. When wet, my belt takes a few sec to really engage

My hydrostatic ariens stopped moving today. Is it the same thing for that one?

Hydrostatic mowers are a different ballgame, I haven't torn into one personally as I don't own one, but they are totally different design so not likely

All gas engines, whether a car or lawn mower, need 3 things to run: Spark, Fuel, Air. Your battery and starter will not get you anywhere without spark. Check your plug and wire (wire should be seated firmly on spark plug, check for corrosion. Replace spark plug. Fuel.... How long did it sit? Did you drain gas or winterize it? The fuel could be deteriorated or have enough moisture in it that it will not ignite. Check those two first. Are you putting throttle in choke position when starting? A clogged fuel filter could be preventing enough fuel being sent to engine. This takes 5 min to replace and is cheap. Start with the basics.

@@Teratoma-T lol I read this over and over again. Eventually drained the gas and put new fuel in it and got it to start. Thank you

@@maninosaphangthong8668 great! FYI.... Gas loses potency, aka octane in storage. It's complicated, but think of it this way, the longer it sits, the less it wants to ignite. My rule of thumb, don't keep gas more than a month.

@@Teratoma-T thanks for the tip. I kept gas in it through out the winter. I didn't winterize it but never had an issue til now and I knew it was something so small and didnt want to pay $300 for a repair man to tell me what I already knew. Lol but I was able to get it started thank GOD. I take so much pride in my lawn lol thank you
