My family used to use an old motorcycle with the rubber taken off the rims to go into town to get supplies. The RR tracks were no longer used and it saved a half hour car ride around the mountain.
In our India also there is an empty train in Indore where the train has stopped running.If you wish, you can also travel on our hilly routes with your small train.

When I was strolling through Durango, Mexico I saw these dude with their pickup truck rolling down the rails using their rims, sick af, had all their stuff and plenty of supplies
I remember seeing a group of these folks out in Klamath and Lake County Oregon in the mid 90’s, looked fun, wonder if the rails are still there, part of it was the old Modoc Line SP had.
these are used in Vietnam, India and Pakistan all of the time to cover distances. its a family car they pull off of the tracks when the actual locomotives are coming.
this will be handy when the long awaited zombie apocalypse finally begins. just attach a cart behind the railcart and you can haul gear from base to base.
I asume there would be enough time to get the thing out of the rails before a train comes, even thinking about it makes my stomach twist a little I won’t lie. Imagine going across the country on that like a neo-nomad that would be cool.
