If it was uncomfortable they wouldn't do it on their own. The horses pick their headset during training; some have it more level with the withers, others carry it lower.
@@casdragon_5939 I rode for many years, both English and western. The only way I ever saw horses heads being that low was when they put a Martin Gail on them, also called the tiedown. Train the horses to keep their heads down but in nature, you would never see that, I appreciate your comment, though. Everyone has a right to their opinion. 😀✌🏻
I get what you mean but it’s also a big part because of breeding. my mare naturally carries her head quite low even without being ridden because of her confirmation. a horse built like she is doesn’t need things like tie downs to teach them to drop their head. I’m not saying some trainers don’t use tie downs (not something I agree with) but the people in reining seem to love that low head set so it’s going to also get bred into their horse’s confirmation making it more natural and requiring easier training without tools :)
