In October 2018 I was invited to be a guest on the giant self-unloading laker STEWART J. CORT, operated by the Interlake Steamship Co., on a round trip from the Soo Locks to Burns Harbor, Indiana, up to Superior, Wisconsin, and back down to the locks. The CORT, built in 1972, was the first 1,000-foot vessel on the Great Lakes. She hauls taconite (pelletized iron ore) for steelmaker ArcelorMittal. Thanks to Capt.
