Journey with us in this episode as we leave the delightful Gruyéres, filled with a hearty Swiss breakfast and the exhilarating sight of fighter jets swooping through the valley. On our faithful steeds - Marty on his Kawasaki ER-6N 'Jacinta', and myself on 'Daisy Bell,' my Royal Enfield Bullet 500, we head towards Germany, meandering through the beautiful cities of Bern and Basel. With Daisy Bell clicking over the 29,000-mile mark, she is ageing with grace and reliability. For the most part.
Our route is adorned with ancient castles dotting the mountainsides, their silent strength echoing tales of times gone by. We roll through charming Swiss towns, each offering a glimpse into the country's vibrant lifestyle and culture. Amidst our journey, we ensure to keep the tyres in check and filled with the right amount of air for a smooth ride.
Finally, we reach Freiburg im Breisgau, where after relishing some local Weiss beers, we set off for an evening of fun at an Irish bar to play bingo. En route, a shining example of an MZ Trophy Motorcycle catches our eye, adding a perfect endnote to our day.

This helps new riders understand you don't need a $15,000.oo mega touring behemoth to enjoy scenic adventures. My 2011 Bullet, with Cozy sidecar... will get me anywhere the behemoths go... it just might take a bit longer. :)

I couldn't agree more! And I think the slower pace lets you get to take in more too that you'd otherwise miss riding down a highway instead.

I used to ride at warp ten on a busa,bought a gs1150 precovid and havent stopped riding the gs since.. i now go out just for a spin and i see all the sights. Slow down and enjoy the travel... hello from a tipp man in kilkenny.😊 subbed.

Absolutely love that you're taking your Bullet so far Brendan - you have the same itch to travel than many of us and capturing the journey is all part of the thrill - the thumping of that engine really adds to the adventure and I really enjoyed your commentary during this video, definitely inspiration for my own videos as well - thanks for sharing and keep up the hard work :)

Good video, thanks for sharing. I've lived in Switz. for many years in the Canton of Bern of which Bern is the county city as well as being the Capital of Switzerland. Pity I didn't know you were coming, I could have shown you some insider tips of the area. Have fun, drive safe, greets from Steve.

I really struggled with the distance to the mountains. We’re they small or far away I thought. Then decided 30 ( miles) oh well. I tried. Loving your work. I had childhood friends from Bern so thank you for sharing that. Daisy really is quite a goer!

Another hint: the artillery piece you see at 15:14 in the village of Langenbruck belongs to some guy who lives there and runs a private army museum. He has a collection of cold war aera material. Including a De Havilland Vampire Jet fighter and stuff. Unfortunately you won't find much info on google maps for some strange reason (censorship?). However, it belongs to some odd old couple. they are quite nice people though. If you drive by, Its worth a short stop, having a "Feldschloesschen" and a little chat (or rather a coffee if you're biking")
@BulletWanderer

A De Havilland Vampire Jet fighter? 😮 Would have loved to have seen that! In editing this video I was having a look on Google maps and saw that too, the street view ends a bit before the artillery piece, very strange 🤔 If i'm in the area again I'll have to buy a bottle to bring with me 😁

Guys, what you're looking at at 11:56 is the south side of the Jura mountain range. Visually checking you must have been around Hoechststaetten... I see a sign at 12:12 that points to Oberoesch at the right - that's about half way between Kirchberg and Hoechstetten. The closest distance to those hills from there is about 16 km or 10 miles - that's if you're a bird, a plane or superman of course. going along the road you were I'd estimate the distance at about 40 km more or less untill you start climbing (depending what pass you choose). Of course, it has to be said that this absolutely does NOT mark the border between Switzerland and Germany. The border is defined by the river rhine. the Jura mountains are south of the rhine (and you are 16 km south of the jura mountains as you look at them). So you have to cross them before you get near Germany. The mountain range NORTH of the Rhine is the Black Forrest - and that's not what you see here.
@BulletWanderer
@BulletWanderer Год назад
I see, thank you for all that information, you were very thorough 😁 I'll do a bit more reading up on the places i'm going next time I'm travelling, in order to be a bit more factual. Appreciate the corrections, in truth I know very little about Switzerland and would love to learn more about its history (and stay there for longer than just a day next time!)

@@BulletWanderer Well, destiny had it that you steered Daisy Bell right through another Royal Enfield Bullet 500's home playground. So the call had to be answered. If you ever get the chance to come here again definitely check out the Alsace region. You don't have to like white wine (me personally I can do only small amounts) - but it helps. Kaysersberg is a very pittoresque place for example. Its a small medeaval town that almost looks as if it was built by Walt Disney, Cinderella and the seven dwarves - just with much more authenticity of course. Also the Jura region along the border between switzerland and france has some hidden marvels. Depends on what is your preferrence.

Like the comment, ' We're now in the German part of Switzerland.' Like your leather tank bag however does it keep contents dry in the heavy rain? Good work Brendan... keep on truckin'!
@BulletWanderer
@BulletWanderer Год назад
Thanks Chris! It works reasonably well for a while, but eventually the wet will get through in prolonged rain. The bag did come with a rain cover to throw over the bag in the event of rain, I just didn't bother packing it, as anything in there I don't mind if it gets wet. Mainly its just sunscreen, a bottle of water, and a case to swap between sunglasses and normal. 😎

There was not a single road in this video, within Switzerland, that I have not ridden myself, so this was a very interesting look at, prompting me to get out and do a little more riding between Bern and Basel. A rreal Wiener Schnitzel is Veal, and not pork or chicken, so anything else is just a Schnitzel. That being a thin slice of meat battered in bread crumbs.
@BulletWanderer
@BulletWanderer Год назад
Think my brain was a bit frazzled from the long day's drive, that's why I called wienerschnitzel "pork chicken" 😂. Glad you found it interesting! I really love Switzerland and hope I can do a bit more exploring there again some day, would you have any recommendations in particular? 😁

So jealous of the scenery. What make of helmet is that? How do you like the fit and function?
@BulletWanderer
@BulletWanderer Год назад
It's a ByCity Roadster helmet! I find it very comfortable, very good vision in it (I remember when I first put it on, it felt like I was wearing an open face helmet!). It's great for Summer riding, even with the visor down, there's a good air flow through it. For rainy days, I'd say its okay, due to the style of visor it doesn't seal really, so in particularly heavy rain you might get a few drops through, but through light summer showers its nothing to worry about I think. It's light enough too, at least compared to other helmets I've had. One other thing to bear in mind, it doesn't have any sun visor, so you'll want to bring a pair of shades too. Hope that all helps 😄

I am thinking of buying a late model Bullet. What year is your bike, and what has broken down in the 29,000 miles you have owned it? Thanks.
@BulletWanderer
@BulletWanderer 7 месяцев назад
Hi Lee, my bike is a 2016 model. In regards to break downs on the bike, there hasn't been anything major that was the bike's fault. I did break the chain once, but that was my fault for not maintaning/replacing it in time. Otherwise, two 'stays' on the front mudguard have snapped (the center ones, so it wasn't a big deal as there were still 2 other supporting stays), and the engine exhaust collar bolts sheared before. Although I think the latter was caused by incorrectly mounting the exhaust, so all the weight was concentrated at the wrong spot. Other than that, the engine itself has been as solid as the day I first rode it (at 4800 miles when I bought it.) Generally speaking, take care of the bike, keep on top of things, and you should have many happy miles with a Bullet 😁 Hope that helps!

I had around 8 military choppers in formation, heading 'somewhere' few months back. But beside that, I am always glad to hear Daisy's splendiferous thumping. Is she adjusted to the right side riding already? p.s. MZ was huge brand in the communist era, it is related to the pre war DKW. They tried to make bigger 4 stroke bikes in the 90's till early 2000's but sells did not happen. The old bikes are still on the road, people in central and eastern Europe are riding and maintaining them. Good utility bikes as a whole.
