Want to call him underrated but anyone who knows guitarists know he’s great. Overlooked might be the best way to describe Frank Hannon. He’s a hidden gem for sure.
Totally agree with overlooked. Both Frank and Tommy Skeoch on those first 3 Tesla albums had some awesome playing and riff's. Dont De Rock Me is one of my favorite tunes from these guys!! They took the "hair" out of Hair Metal and made it what I like to call Modern Classic Hard Rock

I think Frank makes it look so effortless, that people tend to think it was easy, guitar players who’ve tried to play these songs and keep up know better. I’ve seen them live pretty much anytime they come through Arizona and they never disappoint!
This is a classic representation of who Frank is. We grew up in neighborhoods near each other and I ran across him a few times. Humble, just a "regular Joe" who is genuine. I'd see them in the City Kidd days and was front row for their first Tesla tour as an opening act in Sacramento. Frank and Tommy both are so immensely underrated as musicians. When I want to remember the good times, I cue up me some Tesla.
Frank Hannon is right other with alex lifeson, rocky from suicidal tendencies, etc that often get overlooked and never should be. Truly phenomenal players that deserve more spotlight

I agree. I seen them live being a guitar player down. He was awesome and sounded great. I know every song on the first 3 albums. Very big influence in my playing

It ain't what you got, it's what you give. That is one of the best songs ever recorded and this riff is amazing. I can listen to that song or watch the video over and over. Tesla is definitely something special.
I'm 68 years old and been listening to Tesla since my early 30's. Always rated Frank as one of the top all time never mind 80's rock guitarists. Mechanical Resonance was and still is a classic album, great to listen to Frank's insights on it. Also he comes across really well as a great guy. Love it.

@@frankhannon8943 That's deep! you were my inspiration.. such beautiful sounds.. Thank you for creating the music that helped us through life! gratitude!
Tesla's such a great band. Always felt they didn't get the praise and recognition they deserved like a lot of the biggest bands of the 80s received. Thank you Gibson TV for doing this. God bless ya', Frank Hannon. Huge influence. - Manny of The Ticking Clocks
An American barman working in London that I became friendly with lent me Mechanical Resonance on cassette around 1991 and it blew me away, thanks for these lessons Frank I’ve loved your playing and band from the moment I first heard you.
So glad to see Frank getting some love, what a great guitarist and part of one of the strongest two guitar bands from that era ,his parts are just right ,such a talent and such a humble person.
How great it is to be 58 and flashback to early Tesla and fall back in love with songs like Changes, Before my eyes, etc......... Louisiana Rocken Out Mark
He's not just one of the greats when it comes to playing guitar , but also one of the greatest teachers of it as well ! His phrasing is awesome . I am myself just now getting into Tesla , a band I overlooked in the 80's . I wished I wouldn't have . Smh . Thank you Jesus for Frank Hannon , and Tommy Skeoch , including the rest of their band mates . Thank you Gibson , for sharing this with the rest of the world ! ! ! Keep it going !
What a great teacher! All of the riff lords have been great but Frank is on another level when it comes explaining stuff it's so effortless he's throwing little bits of theory in and it's just so natural!
It was Frank Hannons guitar that helped spark the wonderment of music - before I learned anything about how music worked, it was just sound magic. Sound magic filling the empty spaces in my room, in the car, in my head and heart... Thanks for the inspiration
Excellent video. Frank Hannon and Tesla are top shelf rock n' roll gems. I still have all their records from the eighties and early nineties. Frank was a great inspiration for me to learn guitar. I remember learning the solo from Love Song by ear from the record. Great music and great memories. Frank is one of the best rock guitarist of all time.
I’m a total thrash and death metal player but man I love Frank. He’s one of my biggest heroes. I love Tesla and Frank was one of the reasons I wanted to play guitar as a kid. That dude is a national treasure.

Freakin loved this! Tesla was such a big band for me during my high school years. We need more of this Gibson guitar riff lessons stuff. Keep them coming.

It's been a while since this was posted... My buddies and I road tripped from Ft Ord Ca to " Day on the Green " Oakland stadium I think it was ? 1987 maybe...during intermission a track from Tesla [ they weren't performing] started playing and We all looked at each other in amazement 🤩 A moment I wont forget... been a Loyal follower since .. Thank You Frank ... from a former soldier who served to protect freedom ..but more import to me ...🎼🎶🎸🎶🎶
Mechanical Resonance, in my opinion, is one of the all time great albums. Such an incredible debut! Every rock fan should have it in their collection. The Great Radio Controversy is also a great album. Tesla are very underrated.
Heaven's Trail was OUR drinkin' song back in the day. I just recently reconnected with those friends and we have enjoyed a few brews to that tune once again!!!
That Modern Day Cowboy riff is as underrated as any riff on planet earth. So..so. so.. truly amazing and influential. What a great thing Frank did... giving credit where it was due. Makes my heart happy.
Man , mechanical resonance is the soundtrack of my HS years. It’s on my iTunes downloaded. Frank , thank you for all the music. Gibson, thanks for the lessons. Much love from Raeford NC🤙🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Tesla, Great White and Badlands. My first concert at 16. Great White and Tesla were co-headliners and it was Tesla's turn to close the show that night. Frank and Tommy were all over the stage and every note hit just right. Could not have asked for a better 1st experience.

About 15 years ago, I saw him testing pedals playing in guitar center in Sacramento and didn't know who he was, I commented to another guy watching "Damn that guy is good" he replied yes he is that's Frank Hannon of Tesla.
I met Frank playing at the Gibson Summer Jam in 2006. I didn’t know who he was at first but when I heard him play, I was like “who the heck is this guy” ? He had amazing feel. I got to play with him and hang out with Tesla. Frank was such a down to earth guy but behold when he rips that guitar. I certainly want to add he was as kind a gent you’d ever want to meet. Super cool. You rock brother.
Might be my favorite 2 guitar combos of all time. Great riffs. Great harmonies. They complimented each other so well. Always loved Frank's leads too. Great stuff without all the flash in the pan that the 80s were so baked with.
Frank has always been one of my favorite guitar players and my respect for him has gone up further because of his shout outs to Tommy Skeoh and how Tommy also contributed to lots of my favorite Tesla songs.
One person who gifted Frank a red SG was the late great true genius in Steve 'The Riffmaster' Clark. Tesla opened for Leppard and both bands got along extremely well in general - but Steve and Frank became very close friends in particular. In one of their most classic songs you'll always see Frank point to the heavens in a sigh of enduring respect and affection for Steve, paying homage to a man who was the real genius of Leppard. The primary song writer, creator of some of rocks most timeless iconic melodies, harmonies, hooks, bends and of course 'riffs". Hence the nickname "The Riffmaster". The story of Steve surprising Frank with a SG as a gift is one of the most precious examples of how truly sweet 'Steamin' was. And live Steve was a true rock God. He oozed genuine cool strapped SO low. He was the one the fans came to see, and geez the video footage as rare as it is today reminds all.

Man, that intro to little suzie is perfection!!!!!!! Tesla has been my favorite "hard rock" band since they came out in 1986. Kick ass Rock and Roll - period.
Overlooked, underrated, underutilized and all other adjectives you can think of, this dude is SO GOOD! Love his playing and always have. My favorite Sacramento band.

Frank is a bad ass for sure! I just saw them in Irvine, Ca. for the sixth time and they were just as good as ever. People who don't know about Frank certainly should.
Just saw them live again last night and still sound amazing. One of the best live bands you can see. Always felt like they get 2nd tier status for some reason when they have some amazing material
That's a good way to put it. They were pretty damn popular for a while, but I agree with the sentiment of what you're saying. One of my absolute favorite bands of all time and talented off the charts!
