Gamera's enchantment still grows. He fills our hearts with love. Gamera's the latest thing. He fills our hearts with spring, spring, spring! Anytime you want some moonbeams, (whispered) Gamera is the thing. Gamera is really neat! He is filled with turtle meat. We all love you, GAMERA!!!

The one complaint I have is that I didn't get to hear about how Gamera is really neat and how he's filled with turtle meat.

This is the classic first Gamera film MST did way back. For those who are curious, it’s the Americanized version with different Caucasian linking scenes, as well as a much better English dub. The version you’re used to (the one with General Curly) was done in Japan. Last year I treated myself, got the two Arrow Gamera box sets, as well as the MST3K box. Did the true deep dive. And when you watch them restored and widescreen, you can really appreciate them as good kaiju films.

I give Mike & Kevin credit. I cannot be easy coming up with original riffs for this movie a second time, even if it is a different version.

Fun fact: Blue Öyster Cult guitarist Buck Dharma has an instrumental called "Gamera is Missing".

It's insane how few subscribers this channel has. These guys are comedic geniuses.

It's tough for me to think of that little psycho as "Toshio". He'll always be "Kenny" to me.

I’ve gained an affection for Gammera over time. Although not as charismatic as Godzilla, he has a style uniquely his own. His method of locomotion, for instance. How does he spin without having to stop periodically to vomit? As a kid, I occasionally used to get car sick while going in a straight line. So Godzilla represents our pent-up rage and desire to smash a corrupt system, and that’s okay. Gammera, on the other hand, represents our desire to pull our heads and limbs into our shells, fire up our rockets, and spin off to a nicer, calmer place. And that’s okay, too.

The Mighty Gamera is friend to all children of the world!! He's not too friendly with the adult population though.

What's awesome about the voice cast is we get Peter Fernandez, Corrine Orr and Jack Curtis! That's Speed Racer/ Racer X, Mom Racer/ Trixie/ Spritle, and Pops Racer/ Inspector Detector!

When the turtle grew jets for legs and spun into the air I couldn't handle it 😂

I half expected Ulraman and the Science Squad to make an appearance. oh well.

I've always loved Gammera! He's made of turtle meat and is friend to children!

Who else remembers Mike, playing piano for Dr. Forester, and TVs Frank. His Gammera theme was so moving and inspiring... What a group of real artist these three men are... Well of the people who worked on all these shows are genius, with the Netflix version being questionable at best...

It's easy to defeat Gamera. Just wet his belly and stick him to a flat surface. Turtles are nature's suction cup.

Saying "Gamera" works the same on dogs as saying "Blücher" works on horses.

"Gammera is a friend to all children!" *Except for the thousands he kills and stomps on 'accidentally' as he ravages Tokyo. -- I have heard this riffed by the KTMA MST3K crew, the Comedy Channel MST3K crew, and now RiffTrax. 3 times. ALL HAIL THE ALGORITHM!

Fun Fact: The giant turtle suit was designed by special effects technician Ryosaku Takayama. The suit was sculpted by Keizo Murase and built by brothers Kanju Yagi and Yasuei Yagi, along with Kanju’s son Masao Yagi. The Gamera suits were made from an early form of foam rubber latex, mixed with lime sulfur and salt. The final Gamera suit used for most of filming was 6 ½ feet tall and 110 pounds (60 kilograms). A second, lighter suit was also created. A model of Gamera's torso was also created and used for some of the scenes where the monster shoots fire. The scales of Gamera's shell were made with plaster. Several stuntmen were hired by Daiei to act in the Gamera suit. But none of them were able to last more than three days due to how heavy the suit was. This forced the special effects staff to draw lots to determine who would climb in the suit each day. Suit maker Kanju Yagi did the most time.

I knew the "HOW ARE YA?!" was coming, I just didn't expect it so soon.

I love the Gammera version of Gamera's song! Even if he is filled with turtle meat, this one has a better beat! Gammera and also Batman! The grooviest Kaiju of them all! 😂🤣

Igloos had a small rounded opening with a "dog house " type entrance to keep the cold wind out. You could not stand up in them and had to crawl in and out. The "Eskimo" advisor on the movie mushed have been a modren EKIMO.

The dumbest part is the plane crashes into the ice and the nuclear weapon sets off a mushroom cloud. BUT, instead of a big atomic crater you would expect from any nuclear weapon, the ice simply cracks open - not even big cracks.

A localized version with new footage was theatrically released in the United States on December 15, 1966 by Harris Associates, Inc. and World Enterprises Corporation as Gammera the Invincible. Thanks for the fresh riffs on a classic! I'm always surprised to see that former A list stars Albert Dekker and Brian Dunlevy are in this. The other time I saw them together in a film was Beau Geste (1939 film) with Gary Cooper. They probably got paid better on that film!

The mention of Jack "Toono" Porkins has me torn, imagining a tragic Death Star trench run animated "5 Centimeters per Second"-style.

Fun Fact: Before Gamera, Daiei's first attempt at a monster movies was a film about giant rats attack Tokyo. “Giant Horde Beast Nezura” (大群獣ネズラ, Daigun-jū Nezura) was what is was called. The story takes place at the Food Research Institute located on one of Japan's surrounding islands south of Tokyo, scientists have developed a revolutionary high-calorie food source labeled the "S602." One of the scientists discovers the nutrient has terrible side effects that cause mutation in those who consume it. Plans to continue with the experiments of S602 are halted and the current supply is supposedly disposed of. An infestation of rats on the island leads to many disappearances. An investigation uncovers giant rats attacking and eating livestock, as well as human victims. One of the dead man-sized rats is dissected for study, and a decision is made to spray poison gas on the island to kill all the rats. Many of them escape to the sea and Tokyo is invaded by a horde of rodents as well as an enormous mammoth-sized rat. The rats eventually cannibalize each other, thus eradicating the threat on its own. The studio canceled the film after they had trouble trying to control the rats. We should count ourselves lucky, Kenny would have been the biggest rat of all.

I know it's a stupid gripe, but the silhouettes in the bottom right corner really added to the riffing. Without them it's like watching DVD commentary with a cast that really didn't like their movie.

I have seen this movie god knows how many times and the whole kid obsessed with turtles his sister putting her foot down about pet turtles is still one of the weirdest side plot I have seen.
