thank you so much for making this video. I had no complaints with this until this mic static shit started. They're almost unusable. I'm scared to break it more by opening it myself. I sent them an email but I'm not expecting much. I knew it was a stupid design the moment this started happening.
By far my top choice for a headset, and I've had and tried MANY! Mine did eventually have the MIC wire issues, known issues. They even made a revision to the original RIG 800, with a MIC you can unplug and replace. That being said I'm hoping to repair my set, as they've been fantastic for over three years! I'm rocking a RIG 700HX for a backup for now. Astro are mad overpriced in my opinion. Yes, I'm a RIG fanatic, and only wish they would address that known issue, and maybe add Bluetooth. RIG 800 run $150 and the Astro you showed are $300. I'd rather go 2 - 6 years on two RIG setups for the same money...
The Rig is cheap garbage and for the price of them there are several better options that are slightly lesser garbage. Anyway the lesson I learned was buy nice or buy twice.
@@sargeant002 $100 more gets you Corsair Virtuoso XT, with simultaneous Bluetooth connectivity, and a not-garbage-plastic build of brushed aluminum. Unless you’re saving up mommas lunch money it’s well worth it.
This is good to know but super sad. Got this headset used in like new condition, but I'm feeling like this issue will impact me down the line as it's an obvious design flaw. I need to get something that will last linger than a year lol
I had the same exact issue with two rig headsets. One of them I did send back and has repaired, that mic also went bad. But, after going through Astros, I now find that RIG has a headset with a detachable and replaceable microphone. Looking for that video
Same thing still happens with the detachable mic... It has just started happening again with mine... I had mine replaced and am hoping this one is still within warranty.
I had the same problem and I just fixed mine. You need to take apart the left earphone. Its only 3 screws. Then you must TIGHTEN the screw that acts as the pivot point of the mic arm to the headset body. There is a small button that gets pressed during the swinging of the mic boom that causes mute/unmute. The mic boom needs to be tight in order to press / depress that button. You can test it for yourself while the headeset is opened. It was quite easy. I was about to buy new headset and mine work great again.
So is your mic on all the time now, im a bit confused...sorry. Mine is doing the exact same thing and I play a lot online and its getting extremely frustrating. My last session I had to have the mic arm at about a 25% angle in order for anyone to hear me.
Loved my rig 800s. Gave me 5 years of daily gaming audio. Mine are about to go out conpletely. Im at the point where i have to constantly wiggle it to get my mic to work. Not much time till i need to buy a replacement headset. Hopefully they can hold on till june when amazon has prime day. I only buy during sales. Never pay full price. Got mine for 99 bucks 5 years ago. Cant complain. Good luck with astros. This video is about 2 yrs old. How did they hold up???!
I have a rig 550 pro HX and the wire attached to the headset is broken like I hear sound but my mic doesn’t work because of it I need to turn the wire to get my mic to work 💀
Hay bro have had the same problem I paid 250 for a headset that would last don't have much money only being young and yeah I 100% agree with you still got and have to youse it with shitty crackley mic for 250 so mad and wish I saw your video long before 😔
i had the 500 headset and this same thing is going on right now i have 2 pairs one broke and the parts on the on i have right now keeps breaking so i use the old one of the parts that do work one breaks i take on off and put it on the new one is there any way i can change the parts
Having an issue where my mic mutes when I flip the mic down into the normal unmuted position rather than when i flip it up into the mute position. Anyone ever had this or know a fix?
I'm having the same issue where the mic wouldn't mute or unmute at times. I'm 6 months in my warranty so I went to the support site and found that Plantronics was sold to Nacon Gaming and they have basically ghosted me with my emails on getting my headset replaced or repaired. I don't know what to do at this point.
My rig 500 pro hs headset mic just stopped working a week ago. It's just coming up on 6 months since purchase. They are honoring my warranty which is great but response time has been crap with Nancon customer service.
Same, my damb headset itself makes the mic go static and I have to reposition it to make it barely work, this is a built in design flaw that the company who makes Rig 800 knows and makes money off of, never buying Rig again.
A50s are great for about 3 months this the software doesn’t update and removes the firmware from the headset and won’t update and starts an update failed loop Astros are overpriced trash hope u don’t have issues
Mine lasted for over 3 years.. which in my experience is better than alot of turtle beach headsets.. so, considering this and xbox controllers get stick drift after about a year. So, IMHO this is a little condescending. Yeah it's a design flaw, but not worth completely slating them over, look at it from rigs or any business point of view, you start handing out freebies everyone will expect it, and plus they don't know how that headset has been treated during warranty period.
i just wanna remove the mic on it i dont console game that much anymore and only use these for my pc for audio the microphone on the 800 rigs are trash anyway
This detachable mic stuff is so pointless. Just another way for them to make cheap mics that break after a year so people will have to buy a whole new headset.
