Same, except been following him since the Byte The Bullet days...! ;) Then: Southgang, Marvelous 3, Floyd's Funk Revival...his career before getting famous was already extensive. Great dude, great video - thanks!
Butch may be an absolute BEAST on stage... but he very much is the most down to earth dude you'll meet. Also, he puts on the best show you'll ever see live with energy that doesn't stop at just him, but will infect every inch of the venue he's gracing. If he's playing with a full band within 150 miles of you, buy the ticket now. If its a venue of under 150 people, buy 3 and take friends. You won't be sorry.
this guy is my mirror in the usa.loved when he said learn to run before walking.ive said identical things when i moved to LA in the 90s..even the pet dogs can shred then.but the path of writing and melody is so much more rewarding..you start to feel way more..great stuff.and john is just awesome in his approach . and im now on a 335.gotta love the struggle makes you stronger
Great episode - Butch is really entertaining, and as with all his interviews JB always lets the guests shine. The man's a guitar encyclopaedia but he wears it very lightly, always makes it about the guests.
Butch seems like such a good, laidback grown up. Everything I've seen of him is consistently that. Absurd talent on top of all that. Great rundown. Thanks.
Butch is such an amazing, awesome and nice guy. I got to see him several years ago during his Letters tour at the Exit/In in Nashville. After the show, he jumped off stage and took every photo and signed every autograph to whoever wanted one. After my friends and I got photos and signatures, we walked across the street to the Gold Rush to have a few drinks when one of my friends said, “Dude, we should invite him to hang with us.” Yeah right, I thought. But since it never hurts to ask, we turned around and asked him. Before answering, he simply got on his phone and asked (I’m assuming his tour manager) “what time do I need to be on the bus? 3? Okay.” “Yeah guys, let’s go!” I can proudly say I bought all of his drinks that night. Again, such an awesome guy. If anybody reading this is not familiar with his work, I highly recommend checking him out if you like beautifully written and catchy as hell songs.
@@jessemontagnino the best night! Butch is an absolute hero of mine, so the opportunity to spend even two seconds with him would have been awesome. Hanging with him for a couple of hours was surreal. Such a nice person, not to mention, an unbelievable musician.
@captaintrips8651 That sounds next level. He truly is an awesome musician. Perhaps one of the most underrated of our time. I was a Marvelous 3 fan... as in I had the Hey cd. Loved it. Listened to it a lot. Forgot about it after a few years. Vampires in love got into my head a few weeks ago. I looked up the band and learned all about Butch Walker. I quickly learned he's been responsible for nearly all the music I've listened to over the last two decades. I've been listening to all his solo stuff and watching videos like this one. His evolution as an artist is amazing. He inspires me to become such a better guitar player. I hope to run into him now that he lives in Nashville.
I had my first Guitar lesson from butch when i was fifteen at Strings and Things in Cartersville, Ga. then he moved off to LA and got famous, lol. Wish i could write some tunes with him now!
Thanks to everyone involved for putting the spotlight on Butch's rig. I've always loved the different tones he brings to his recordings, and it's nice to see what takes out with him. Just saw him recently in Chicago and it all sounded great.
What a great guy. Can’t say enough good things about Butch. And not to pile on (but I guess I am), but LOVE his work with August is Falling. 100% GOAT status.
Great musician! Marvelous 3 used to play in NC all the time so I saw them countless times and met/spoke with butch many times back then also. Super nice dude and was very nice to me despite me asking annoying teenager guitarist/songwriter type questions. Lol
Great rundown Butch built my 31st guitar 2 weeks ago a 51 telecaster reissue great idea with the dimarzio twang kings pups going to have to check those out for that build they sound great again great rundown thanks.
Now that was a great interview…Butch is a ball a fire that’s burnin hot as hell. Damn he can play that thang like nobody’s Fukien business…thanks guy’s for doing what you all do.
i have never noticed too much of a difference if i use a budget or a boutique kind of booster or distortion peda in front of an already distorted amp, but that changes a lot if you reduce the gain and the pedals own sound becomes more present 😎😎
Wow! This was great! Been a fan for almost 30 years now and had opportunities to se M3 and Butch solo. Incredible shows. The “band on a boat” in Philly was by far the most unique. Wonder if Butch remembers that one?
Great rundown guys, fun to listen to unpretentious people enjoy music and gear, that was refreshing. And John, thanks for always being such a good host with comments like "structural damage to the building" love it! The next gig I play I'm going to give the sound guy a small 2x4, lol ---- Thanks guys, that was light and fun to watch.
Time Stamp: 6:48 - John, In these vides, when you talk/ask about strings/brands/gauges - ask about what guitar picks the very next sentence. It's good to know what these guys are using. Thanks.
i am not a guitarist and i never had that "magic guitar" that i'll be crying about (thanks God), but i can say this => EVERY GUITARIST wants to be interviewed by John....he brings FUN to Every Guitarist's Face, bcs he's a REAL CAT and he Speaks CAT :) maybe, JUST MAYBE, one day he will interview ME hahahaha...it will be NICE, even tough I AM NOT a guitarist :), but i can play few chords here and there :) Thanks John for ALL FUN Interviews...Best Wishes...Always )
I know he likes to downplay his "shred" days, but even back then, his playing had a certain character that set him apart. Yeah, it was flashy, but the phrasing was great and never came across as ostentatious. It would be fun to see him revisit that style some day.
So cool to see him on here! I got the opportunity to shoot some video for him a while back- such an incredible show! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0tv2d8oU40w.html
These are the videos I dislike. “You know…(insert massive riff)” “It’s just like…(insert massive riff)”. FINISH YOUR DAMN SENTENCE WITHOUT IRRELEVANT CHOPS.
Its been a year and you still can't get over the fact that it happened LOL The only pathetic thing is streaming services and venues taking abysmally large cuts so that touring bands who lost money in the last 2 years can't make a living anymore
Incredible isn't it? Wasn't it the job of the artist to hold up a mirror to society? So few who have actually been politically relevant over the last three years.
