Rig Rundown Dropkick Murphys' Ken Casey, Tim Brennan, and Jeff DaRosa 

Last summer I got the chance to play Jeff DaRosa's own Dropkick Murphys banjo before a show, year and life made!

I really appreciate Rig Rundowns when there's not a single laptop or Fractal unit in sight.

What gear nerds need to realize is just because you know about brands and sounds doesn't make you a musician, especially a good musician. It doesn't give you talent. It's not going to get you anywhere just obsessing about gear

First, amps don't "put out" ohms. I was mistaken about the output Z. It is a good idea to match Z loads for tube amps. That said, a 4 ohm source to 8 ohm load won't blow fuses as he stated. The danger is that the lack of Z load yields a power reflection back to the secondary of the output transformer and damage it. Fender Xformers are robust therefore this is unlikely to happen. However, a 8 to 4 ohm mismatch creates an overdraw of current from the power amp or "runs hot". That blows fuses.

If you do this again with them, talk more about the bagpipe rigs and what had to be done to play with instruments something with no adjustment to key (bagpipes). Example, most instruments A440 hz, don't do well with the bagpipes A 473-478hz. It interesting how to compensate and blend to that. Also from a sound point of view, what has to be done with mice or any sound set up with the pipes, because they only have one volume (damn loud) and no plug in. Its just interesting stuff

Anybody know the make of bouzouki Jeff plays? The logo in the headstock looks very similar to the Fender logo but its a different make.

YOU are mistaken. Those amps put out 4 ohms and should be run into 4 ohm cabs.

ohms=resistance to electrical flow.. resistance=heat, think friction...lower ohms means less heat, means more watts, means louder dkm!

I wanted that Barney Kessel guitar before eBay was around and since I'm not a professional that does whatever you tell me music industry kind of guy I had to buy my own but I got one now hahaha and nobody tells me what to play

@Youreallysuckguy He also mentioned that his amp tech rewired his cabs to 4 ohms because they were blowing fuses due to running the amps too hot. This makes no sense. Those fender heads are rated for an 8 ohm load. If they think that amps run cooler when connected to a lower impedance load, they are dead wrong. Just the opposite is true. Lower impedance means more current draw = hotter amp. Wiring it for 16 ohms makes more sense. Somebody is mistaken. Him or his tech. I am guessing him.

@Youreallysuckguy This guy is obviously clueless when it comes to gear but that is not unheard of in the profession. He asked his tech what year his bridge pickup is. Seymour Duncan '59s are the model name after the year the patent application was submitted. There is no such thing as a '58 or a '60 seymour duncan. The 59 is just what it is called.
