Rig Rundown - Maroon 5's James Valentine 

I really respect those guys that do their own rundown.... and use their own pedals and not have the tech do everything for them...

I'm actually surprised at how intellectual this guy is when it comes to pedals and gear. He knows his stuff. Got *that* much more respect for Maroon5 as a band now.

Man I wish I liked Maroon 5 cuz this guy is talented and his tone is amazing its a shame because there's so much focus on Adam Levine you never really pay attention to the musicians standing behind him.

Not the biggest fan of Maroon 5, but after watching this and hearing his knowledge of everything, gotta say I'm impressed. That board is really well done!

PEOPLE OF RIG RUNDOWN, please encourage the artists, techs to play the stuff rather than just talk through it, this is the best rig rundown their is because of that reason

I find it amazing that he doesn't want a "firm" previously set up "Maroon 5" rig, but a flexible one, that allows him to shape his tone according to the room/venue/crowd... he really takes his role seriously and enjoys playing guitar. I't nice to see there are still guitar players out there who are able to stay human, and not night-to-night robots. Great guitar player! Greetings from Croatia!

As a guitar tech myself, I can appreciate a CLEAN looking guitar rig. Nicely done. Its nice to see other players and techs with attention to detail when designing and building a guitar rig. #detailed #clean

I love how this guy doesn't need original gibsons, he uses lots of great guitars from unknown brands.

I like that he tells about his gear himself instead of making his tech do it for him, thats just shows that he knows what he is talking about :)

He is a real gear hound... enjoy seeing guitars other than Fender and Gibson. I have two Fanos... they are great guitars.

@guitaristguy20 Thanks for watching the video -- the interviewer was referring to the fact that fans often accuse artists of taping up their stompbox settings/controls to supposedly hide their tone secrets, but obviously, with James and many touring guitarists, functionality and security is the reason. Valentine is such an under appreciated amazing guitarist. I love all these comments surprised showing respect for him. Valentine isn't some pop guitarist. He's a real musician and Maroon 5 wouldn't be what they are without him

oooh that rotovibe sounds very nice. He seems like a swell guy, obviously very into his playing. to be honest I don't know much of their music and I'm probably not gonna start exploring them any time soon, but nice set up.

Ya know, I'm not blown away by his playing or his rig, but dang. This guy is patient and down to earth. He takes his time and he doesn't just BS and hurry through the interview. Cool.

Go for another interview, I would like to see how he is doing with that MusicMan versatile signature guitar.

been down the rabbit hole with these gear run throughs, this guys set up and demeanor are top notch. I like that there isn’t anything extra on the board and the focus on tone quality. lastly, seems like a chill bro you could have a brew with and just shoot the breeze.

Maroon 5 never really struck me as a band worth paying attention to.. but seeing this guy's board AND Matchless/Divided by 13 amps.. damn.

This is one of the best rig rundowns Ive watched just because the guitarist himself showed which pedals are on for specific songs. I also didn't realize that the guitarwork for Maroon 5 would be this diverse after seeing how essential each of the pedals were.

I like that he showed the sounds of the different clean and drive channels.

I really like some of these jealous comments from some people. I am not really a fan of this band either, but they all are great musicians and love what they do. Also, just because you play in a band like this, doesn't mean that you are a lover of pop music.

I don't know how you can "knock" M5. They have killer, melodic pop tunes with great hooks. The actual musical parts aren't simple 3 chord thrown aways. Some really intricate shit going down in their material. James is a fine guitarist no doubt and Levine can really wail too (find the Live from LeCabaret '08, he's not just the pretty boy pop singer).

Now if only Maroon 5 actually didn't drown their music with Synth and drum machines they might actually be a great band.

The raw Matchless tone at the beginning is incredible. Best overall tone I've heard on PG.

I love when the Artist does the tour. But I also like when people know what they are talking about, many artists say, "This is what we have, but I have no idea why." So this was a great video, it had everything.

I love Maroon 5. But it's so conflicted sometimes, because I love them as a band. They made pop songs but they kill it in live performances. They really are great musicians. But of course the focus is always on Levine. And I love him too, of course. It's just he sometimes turns into real diva, and even I can be sick of him...

Yeah, they've got lots of pop hits, but they CAN play live. Trust me, I've seen them. James is a badass guitar player.

He is very talented.Maybe they should utilize his talent more in their songs their most famous songs doesn't even have Guitar.

Under-appreciated musician. Super talented, and writes parts that serve the song. Flash shit works and sure it’s cool, but as a band with the amount of people that they have, having each part work is what matters and he is perfect for the band.

I don't want to imagine how expensive James' Rig was...

This is actually a good Matchless demo ! It points the true character of the amp(s) If you watch close, you see a nice box under the OCD, the pedalboard is also 'cabled very pro . One hell of a gear rundown!

Kudos to this guy but I honestly think nobody in history ever thought "Wow, I wish I knew what Maroon 5's guitar gear is".
