4 days sounds great! There's plenty to see so you must have had a great time. Also must have been awesome with all the snow, nothing like jumping form coffee shop to coffee shop to keep warm =). Were the markets open again?

Ohh, that was fun. Have been there several times. Love that city. Big contrasts. Great architecture and lots of places with good food. It was a pity the market was closed. In there you could find anything in terms of food. There will be another trip for me next summer. But then by plane.

What an interesting city, I would have loved to have had a walk through those Zeppelin hangers. There is so much history and architecture, the jail gave me the creeps 😮 Once again I think you both found the best eating place, the food looked lovely 😍

So much history there (good and bad) and a beautiful old town too. we were only there for the day but I'm sure there are lots of other things to see and experience as well. Credit goes to Emily, she always finds the good restaurants! Food was great there. Hopefully if we are there again the Zeppelin hangars will be open, they were huge! I did some freelance tour guides in Riga a long time ago for Finnish tourists and still remember many odd details (@14:00 the city executioner lived in the building with the The Swedish Gate) and of course also the ones to make people laugh. I also remember this terrible riddle, told by locals: Where in Riga could you see the farthest? Answer: From a KGB cell in the basement - from there you even see Siberia. Sorry for this, but you can't forget the terrible things done here. Nowadays I even think the Occupation Museum is ok, even it was originally was museum about the war, but with a very different political agenda. The Russians even tried to tear down the freedom monument @14:55 (the statue is Swedish bronze, the granite Finnish), but international pressure stopped this plan. So the freedom concept of the statue was politically "redefined" in all official contexts, but you still would get arrested if you took flowers to this place. PS. I love Riga, been there many times, going there again after 2 weeks :)

Hi Stefan, thanks for taking the time to give us that extra information! Riga is indeed a fascinating place and we are so glad we stopped there even if it was for a short time so we can understand you wanting to go back there =). We hope you have a great time there and the city should look beautiful covered in snow. Thanks for watching and we hope you enjoy the rest of the series. Sean and Emily

on the "museum"... it is profoundly disturbing and equally terrifying what so-called human beings can do to each other... as currently demonstrated in Western Asia (as not to get deleted by BB) once again, while executed even more brutally than ever before ...

As always you were told about soviets, but not about latvian nazi battalions who were fighting voluntarily for nazi germany and furrier. The Latvian Legion (Latvian: Latviešu leģions) was a formation of the Nazi German Waffen-SS during World War II. Created in 1943, it consisted primarily of ethnic Latvian personnel. The legion consisted of two divisions of the Waffen-SS: the 15th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (1st Latvian), and the 19th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (2nd Latvian). The 15th Division was administratively subordinated to the VI SS Corps, but operationally it was in reserve or at the disposal of the XXXXIII Army Corps, 16th Army, Army Group North.[7] The 19th Division held out in the Courland Pocket until May 1945, the close of World War II, when it was among the last of Nazi Germany's forces to surrender.

Hi Andrius, Perhaps if we had had more time to go through the history museum we might have read about it. But thanks for the extra information, a complicated and interesting history in this region for sure! Thanks for watching and we hope you enjoyed the video.

@@SeanandEmily I come from Indonesia and Indonesia was once colonized by Japan. The Japanese remains in Indonesia that can be found today are bunkers and forts. Japanese soldiers built many bunkers in the middle of the forest, Meanwhile, they built more forts in coastal areas and Japanese forts also had their own style, different from European heritage.
