lol this comment takes me back to 2010. I had just purchased my first magic swimmer for just shy of $40 (first generation model) and went to the canal. Third cast and I’m into a really nice fish and 15 seconds later I’m reeling my $40 lure back in and the hooks were completely pretzeled. I’ve had several occasions (especially on the 190 7.5” model) where the hook hanger was sheared out from the belly and I reeled in a hookless lure that’s now filling with water. I will say this though, the first generation Magic Swimmers not only have thicker wire gauge on the hook hangers, but the body is a stronger ABS plastic and there’s much more structural gusseting inside the body. Let’s face it, when Sebile pulled these off the shelves in 2015-2016 and released the second generation model for literally half the price, I doubt he accomplished that by beefing the lure up lol....And beyond that, most people don’t know that they used to make both a fast sink and regular sink 228 (9” model). The one with the red head/white body in fast sink is my go-to

Hello Ian. My first set up that I found works well on a budget is a Tsunami Trophy Series 10 footer (Rated up to 10 oz for jigging too). I paired this with a Penn Battle II 8000 with 50lb Power Pro. Best of luck this season!

They handle large fish. Just don't trust the rear joint. Only use the 1st two hook attachments. These are the same lures Cape Cod Charlie's used to carry. Cheeper but just as good action. Aqua Bass , thank you bud. Will do. I'll try them on landlocked Stripers. The kool thing bout them is they come with no hardware which is a big plus for me since i always swap out the stock hardware & replace them with Owner Hyper Wire Split Rings, Owner hooks & Spro Power Swivels.

30minforasn I suppose it would not make too much of a difference. I just like the profile of the hook as it says against the body of the lure. ( The 3/0 seems to tuck nicely along the second joint and the extra length of the 4/0 rest nicely along the larger 1st joint). Just my 2 cents

Unfortunately, like most jointed plugs they don't have great range. They work well with the fish close in busting on the surface or when they don't show along structure. You can get a little more distance by alowing more leader distance from the tip of the rod and loading up the cast more. For me, if they are busting on the surface I go with a longer range lure like a popper or Yo Zyuri Hydro minnow works well or Large X Rap will sail far for you. This works well with big bait in close. If they aren't showing try prospecting with a minnow style plug or Canal Favorite, jigging an Al Gags Whippit Fish.
