Thanks August. That sucks about the lost footage because it sounds like you had nailed the footage as usual. That’s great rigging footage nonetheless. I remember that large oak on that steep hillside a few years ago that was great as well. Your crew’s teamwork, work ethic, and awareness for safety is evident in your videos.

After watching plenty of your videos I thought I could apply your tactics and remove a 20-year-old crabapple tree that was unsightly due to shade from neighbors' tree and blight. It was half dead. Inspired when neighbors had one tree removed and second one thinned I got out my reciprocating saw and started removing all the limbs I could reach. The pro saw me and said he'd take the rest down, then he disappeared. I tried to direct the top to land on my driveway, but the back weight forced it to fall the opposite from my desired direction. Oh well. I got the brush hauled to the local yard waste site in a couple car trips. Thanks for the new site for Jason's channel. I was missing him.

Given the situation, we will put a tag line on the limb butt tied to our mini skid. When the butt comes off if the skid was snug and the operator takes say six or eight feet of rope the butt cannot hit the climber. Attention must be paid to alignment of ropes and the piece along with what August said about strength. Even tip tying can pull the butt from the possibility of striking the climber. I like the hinge dissect. Be well All

Did big crane job yesterday there no operates right now Ida has most all the tree guys . At least the ones who still want to travel . One pick was 11,700 lbs on the hook but it was on the ground already, two limbs fell out of tree . Old decayed live oak trying to get quote from another tree service in Daphne , AL on sonic tomograph on decay in rest of tree . Customer wants to save the tree but I don’t think they should take all the risk without having image of the condition . Big rigging some of my favorite also , close call on the 046 baby . Stay safe guys and you can’t run saw after 1:00 pm ?

Hey Robert. I rarely resist someone who wants to cut his tree down. Occasionally I do. See my video called “Nothing Personal.” That said, a “healthy” cottonwood (seen here) is as good a reason to cut it down as any.

August quick question. Ever had issues with your lights on the truck when you plug up the chipper? We have the same exact bucket truck. GMC c7500. We have the Intimidator Bandit 18xp. Groundy backed up to sharp today and broke the Control panel box completely off today smh so I have to fix that tomorrow but we had the wiring checked and lights fixed for not even 30 mins. Hooked up chipper lost lights on top of the button below the strobe light button there's a button that turns the glow plug check light on and idles truck up. Well driving now periodically the ➿ glow plug light will pop on and off loosing power each time and check engine light will flash then turn off. Seems to do it while idling and driving. Purpose for trucking being in shop was the fuel line blew a press fitting off the silver fuel line from fuel pump/filter to truck. Shop fixed fuel leak and lights. Now it's like it's fuel cutting. ⚙ ➿ Tired of my boss getting the run around from the mechanic and charges over $100 an hour. Not saying he's not doing his job I'm just saying he might be keeping it a little bit longer than he should and usually every time it goes to him it comes back with another issue. Any issues with your bucket truck

In the Rogue Valley, it can be cool in the mornings, but as he noted, during fire season, must be done by 1:30pm so they are out there early, like 5am or so I think. Like Western Washington, Western Oregon is very dry during the summers and the Rogue Valley can get hot, like in the upper 80's to mid to upper 90's easily. I lived for a short time in Medford and it can stay warm/hot until at least Oct down there. They are in southwest Oregon and in between mountains, they have the Cascades to the east, an extension of mountains to the north and the Siskyou mountains at the Oregon/California border so the heat has nowhere else to go. Plus, this may have been shot when a week or so ago too when it was a bit warmer. Don't know about down there, but here in Puget Sound, the temps are dropping and yesterday, we didn't get out of the upper 60's I don't think. Today, it'll be 62-63F and by Friday, rain rolls in for the weekend with similar temps.

To my disappointment my company would rather cut and chuck that whole thing out with the bucket instead of rigging. It may seem quicker to do that but if you have a good high tigh in point that doesn’t need to get changed and an efficient ground crew it would 100% be quicker, AND SAFER to rig it out. But unfortunately whenever I suggest the rigging route I’m told not to, so much to my dismay the boss’s way normally prevails. So I go up and monotonously cut and chuck. Either way still thankful to be able to be in the trees.

Cottonwoods give nice shade, but they can drop some huge limbs with little warning.. They say to never camp in a cottonwood gallery lest they drop limbs on your campsite. It would be real scary to have one next you your house. Tree looks like it had some heart rot in the main stem. Time to take it down.

Another great video as usual. While not a tree guy myself, I do appreciate what you do, and did have to take down one Cedar on the side of my yard last year. It was not terribly tall (just a touch taller than my one story house), but was getting to big for the space between the house and tree, but even worse between tree and chain link fence as it was closer to that. Anyway, a come along, a strap to anchor to base of deck railing at stairs and a rope to provide tension as I took down the upper 1/3 of the tree to fall between the deck and shed, and did it with a recip saw with pruning blades, LOL. Did it without incident too and love not having the tree there. Sorry to hear of the lost footage. As a GoPro owner (H9), I feel your pain. When I got mine, I had some issues with the SD card it came with, yes, Sandisk, but a 32GB one at that and a couple of chapters got lost as the camera froze. A firmware update (updated, yet again later to fix the back screen mostly) and a new, 128G Samsung EVO card and I've not had issues. Also cards do wear out so if getting old, might want to get fresh ones, just an idea. Despite that, you were able to rescue the video and did a good job with the pick up of your talking head to explain what was lost with the footage you had to work with and still able to tell what needed to be explained. Always a great production and quite entertaining.
