I've been studying with you for a good four years straight. I couldn't pick nor would I want to pick any other mentor because of the demeanor that you choose in your everyday normality who you are. I just would like to say thank you very much for the patience and the videos of an expert tree climber. tell the family I said Merry Christmas if we don't talk beforehand much love and respect and thank you
What I love about your videos (apart form the music!) is that you and your team are always so calm and professional. No silly showboating, no histrionics or fake jeopardy, just cool, calm, professionalism.
30 years ago I was a 'professional' for a while; 23 years old fit boy, and cutting down huge production forests in the south of France .. I will never forget that experience. I was enjoying this video so much, thank you, when at 11:05 you started Lacrimosa ... and I even wept a couple of happy little tears. ;-) Never would I trust myself this kind of a job, not a chance in hell, because as you said it yourself; it takes practice. Loved the video, thanks once again Mr. Coates, thank you.
That zipline technique is just what I've been looking for! I've got a few dead trees between my garage and my neighbor's wooden fence. This is the best solution I've seen yet!
I'm learning so much from you and your patience and thought process, nice work by the two of you. It makes it look easy, I know that was a big piece of work ,well done . Thank you for sharing.
@@matthewpolo227 I think they are distalls, but I bought them on day 1 back when I didn’t even know what a brand was. I got lucky. The main components are the shin guard, Velcro and cup like action on the boot which all together holds the lower leg firmly in the right place instead of it twisting round and sticking into your shinbone for example. Buckles aren’t good enough because they always ratchet back on the tightest point and you lose some tension on each click of the ratchet. But they originally came with a foot on the actual spikes which is very bad design IMO, I got new replacement gaffs, straight ones and keep them razor sharp, this allows me to spike with low effort while the secure pads let me rotate and put pressure on the spikes while I climb, meaning I can lean out and get to stuff I wouldn’t normally be able to. I’m nothing special but this is my experience using them.
@@aliray1165 Haven't climbed in 2 years..aside from my Buckingham spikes,( even w the velcro cushion upgrade they are not comfortable) ,I'd like to spend a couple K$ to upgrade all gear.but have commitment issues being an industrial athlete.I do have a few trees to climb in January ( they should prob be done w an aerial lift due to decay) so maybe that'll be the jumpstart needed to get back into it. At an intersectionand without directions. You a daily climber ? or few times per month ?
Your first two clips spoke volumes without a word, "I've got to get going early today, we've got a big job, it's only one tree, but we really have our work cut out for us." (cut to tree view) "this is the tree, this tall Doug Fir, and as you can see we will have to rig it all down, limbs and all" I could tell it took a long time just to get the limbs down, some of them were quite large, really well done Reg, have a bit of a holiday over Christmas, you sure earned it :{)
Thats the most amazing video I've never seen an individual handle a tree that way to a point where it was like straight up an art form. Thats impressive
@@Joebin69in u ABSOLUTELY missed the root of his message, it was a compliment , but your EGO sees it as a threat, that's not uncommon, what's uncommon for a keyboard warrior to show some common human respect as a response
Thank you for the Christmas wishes-same to you and yours. Not sure if older videos of your rigging exploits from Europe times are still up. Amazing learning to be had there for folks. Amber is a lucky one, to be learning from you. Ziplining the very top out, side loading the spar...,after many years - still brings...”a tingling sensation”... no matter how confident and careful one gets....glad you are safe!
Thank you Reg. Watching a 2 man crew dismantle a tree of that size safely is something I always will sit and watch. There are a whole lot of good, solid techniques being shown here. I am striving to learn everything I can and watching videos like this is a great opportunity for exactly that. Thanks for taking the time to shoot, edit and post up the video. Cheers Reg and keep yourself safe! 😎👍❤️🌲 Randy
@@kristopherhenry1255 it seems like everything is expensive in the tree industry. When I started, I was amazed at the price of ropes, etc. I keep it pretty simple, but a GRD is a good investment
Hey Reg, here's what I would have done, just before dropping that top I would have called one of the neighbours and say "Did anyone order a christmas tree?" and have Amber run a long zipline into their living room, and bang they got a christmas tree!
I am a 60 year old stone mason from NH. Who knew that's what I was hearing the Verdi Requiem, I could listen to Reg all day. I understand what and how he says things.
Awesome job man! I always worry when negative reading sizes that big because I'm always afraid the shock load will snap the rope 🪢... But great job notching each piece..
Hey man I wanted 1st I wanted thank you for cheering those videos and yo do a great job even is only you and the lady loading the. Logs I learning something but you're doing amazing job. Something I ever see before. Thank you and hopefully yo be blessing and keep going the safety away.
Great job Reg! Nicely done as always! Tree work come up with at plan execute it to the best of your ability!! Well stated that is how I have done things for my short time in this line of work! Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
I’m always impressed by your work! I have learned a lot from watching you over the years. Thanks for taking the time to make these well done videos!💪💪 marathon tree for sure awesome job!!
I never imagined using the portawrap at the top of the tree. It gives amazing control in a tight spot, and it reduces the manpower needed on the ground. It is easy to see how something like that takes a lot of time, because each segment needs to be small to reduce the initial shock loading. I'm guessing that with a second large tree beside, you would rig a speed line and a control line above to save time.
Beautifully put together video - thank you. The calm & measured approach does it for me much more than the frantic hyperkinetic, which some seem to prefer. And the icing on the cake was the lacrimosa pairing: wonderful that so many others appreciated this too - I thought I might be the only one liking it. Perfect antidote to a world that today seemed full of hot-headed philistines. Happy Christmas, Reg.
I'm dropping a leaning Larch tomorrow, this is a great vid to show my greenhorn groundie the zipline technique that were gonna use, and great timing btw! These short days are a pisser, taking chunks of time to set up and derig ,only getting 6 hrs climbing in, jobs stretch out longer than bid for.... still, its work...packing in for Xmas after that so can get a 'firebreak week' just to have the seniors over for Xmas lunch.......wishing you and yours as good a Xmas as you can in these weird times. 👍
another great video! textbook speed lining as always! Innovative approach to the timber although I would be slightly concerned about the high fall factors involved when snatching on to such a short leg of line. You obviously accounted for this sufficiently by keeping the pieces small though. Respect for doing a tree like that with such a small team!
Good stuff Reg, The thing about machines working hourly, is that it always seems like the operator is dragging his feet trying to milk a little more out of it.
Reg, great video. Thanks for all the effort that goes into getting the solid shots from multiple cameras and putting these videos together. How many rigging slings do you bring up at a time?
Second time watching this. Truly a work of art Reg. 👏🏻 From your thorough plan and smooth, safe execution all the way through. Thanks for sharing such great content with all of us!
Well have to say chapeau! Reg. That is a lot of graft having the rigging bollard up there and having to faff and move it down each time obviously that would of been fairly tiring...all edited out which makes it look easier then it is...well probably easy for you😆 Merry Christmas fella 🎄👌
Most nights as I eat my dinner, I watch your videos. It is really wonderful. I love what you are doing, and how you do it. Thanks for sharing all of this with us. - Vermont Fan.
Hi Reg. Been watching your art for years now. Amazing stuff. I would like to wish you and your family best of times in the coming holidays and best of wishes in the new year. You are an inspiration. Greetings from Norway
Cool euro mount, I'm a fan , done 3 now myself, hard to get all the thin bits that want to hide and smell! I'm going to have to use more borax or something!
I like to work with girls to... But, when have no experience it's difficult (talking about any person, man or woman) ... Then we must do over work from the tree. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for putting the effort to video this, really interesting to see you work. Liked the Requiem. Merry Chrimbo Reg , best wishes for 2021 and lang may yer lum reek.
The value in this video, like all of the videos you post, is immense. Incredibly grateful for your generosity in sharing your hard earned experience. An amazing career spanning over three decades, and if I remember correctly, three continents at least? Truly inspirational brother. I don't do tree work professionally, but I manage several woodlands and utilize tree work all the time in sensitive areas and the knowledge I've garnered from your videos has been absolutely priceless. Please reach out to me if you ever need anything. Thanks again mate,
The speed line is great when you have the height.but what if it's a hard wood tree like an oak that's in a backyard and it's been right over the house and it's been dead for a few years? No way to get a truck to it.show me how you do that please .good job by the way say high to buckin love his channel.
The truck is just an Anchor. There usually an anchor of some sort around, whether its a tree, stump or pile of logs with a sling choked around them. I made a video called 'how to zipline a spreading tree' a couple years ago. Scroll down the list of videos to find it. You may find some of the answers you are looking for.
There are times I think I'm watching a skilled surgeon perform BRAIN SURGERY! 🤯 You ARE the best, Reg! 😉 Late Edit: And a Merry Christmas to you and yours. ( 4/30/ 2021 ) A bit early. 🤭
Great job on a tough tree in a tight spot!. Very labor intensive especially using a rope brake up in the tree but where there's a will there's a way and you certainly proved that well beyond a shadow of any doubt! Good job Reg.
Hey does anybody know the name of the device that the rope is wrapped around from the main tree to slowly lower it to the ground?that solid steel or metal shiny speed reducer I need it’s actual name please to but one,,,😊
