Hello RU-vidrs! A special hello to my fellow PRELOADERS! For those of you that aren't PRELOADERS yet, hit that subscribe button and become one. You may be asking yourself, who are PRELOADERS?
PRELOADERS:
Subscribers to this channel who are dedicated to being proficient in slow speed motorcycle operation.
What does PRELOAD mean?
PRELOAD:
Engaging the throttle to raise the RPM’s (revolutions per minute) above idle and holding the throttle there, with the clutch pulled in (no power to the rear wheel, “in reserve” “PRELOADED”). This process will make power to the rear wheel available to the rider immediately when the clutch is opened up. There’s no need for the rider to be concerned with twisting the throttle for power because it’s already PRELOADED.
Welcome to Advanced Slow Speed Motorcycle Riding Skills - Lesson #5. In this video, I discuss and demonstrate exercise #1 (stop & start), exercise #2 (slow ride), exercise #3 (trust & believe) & exercise #4 (right turn/left turn). None of these practice exercises require the rider to lean the motorcycle.

Robert, I guess in New York you take a MSF course to get your license, I know in Texas we do too, but other places like California actually have a course you have to do. I think it would be interesting to mix up some of the practices using course designs by other states.
@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle
@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle 3 года назад
In other countries, you have to know how to do all of these things to attain a motorcycle license. There’s no need to practice different states courses. Anyone that practices the exercises that I cover can pass any MSF course, easily. 👍🏾

@bubblehead7680 3 года назад
@@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle I know it isn't necessary, I just think it would be interesting to throw them in there. Not to take away any of the other training courses, but add it in at the end. Like the California course. It would combine many of those things you teach.

Hello, when I’m practicing my right and left turns at a slow speed and even a coming to a stop am I always in that friction zone with my foot on the foot brake being applied. I’m turning my bike at a slow speed heavy on the brake to make that sharp turn and it seems like I’m fighting the friction zone with applying throttle. What’s my problem or am I doing it right but need practice. Always a little hesitant to go out and trying to over come that. Thankyou Frank who loves watching your videos.
@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle
@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle 2 года назад
Hey Frank. Thank you for watching and hopefully you’re subscribed!👍🏾😊 Your problem is, as you stated, your “heavy in the brake”. That’s what’s causing you to fight the friction zone. Light pressure on the rear brake and drag it. Watch my Practice Session videos.

Robert, 've seen where some motorcycle coaches suggest turning the wheel in the direction you are trying to go prior to making the turn to reduce the amount of space required to complete the turn. What are your thoughts on this approach? Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge.
@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle
@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle 3 года назад
That's true the deeper you are into the turn. If you're not deep into the turn, it's not necessary. In fact, it will make you turn to soon and the front wheel may make it, but the rear of the motorcycle will not.
@ethanlund9595
@ethanlund9595 3 года назад
How do you go from full lock to the left to full lock to the right the fastest and most efficient? Do you let the clutch out, or use rear brake or both? I’d love to hear your advice and what you have to say! Thank you
@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle
@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle 3 года назад
Hi Ethan. Good question. I actually explain this in Practice Session #5 and #6. You actually do the opposite. You don’t let the clutch out, you pull it all the way in so you’re out of the friction zone, therefore no power is going to the rear wheel. The motorcycle is always going to be easier to turn when no power is going to the rear wheel, regardless of your speed. However in slow speed situations, only pull the clutch all the way in during the turn. Once the transition is complete, let the clutch out back into the friction zone. 👍🏾

Dear Robert, a hug and a warm greeting from Costa Rica. About 32 years ago I learned in a very light and self-taught way to drive a motorcycle, however it was not the best learning. Today I am a 52-year-old man, I did my homework and I looked for a motorcycle similar to what I rode some time ago... I bought a Honda Shadow Aero 750 cc, 2005 model with 35,000 miles. I practiced for about 1 year, and even on a lonely street, I made an exact replica of the driving test that takes place in Costa Rica. And, I practiced and practiced until exhaustion. I have obtained my license for high displacement, however these videos are a treasure that I cherish and review constantly, and that I want to learn in depth. You don't know how much gratitude I owe you. Thank you and Pura Vida! And excuse my English I haven't spoken in your language for a long time.

Hi Robert, I've watched several of your videos now and in one I watched yesterday where you were practicing stopping smoothly you recommend staying preloaded while stopping and at the same time applying the rear brake (if I recall it was 30% power, 70% rear brake) to stabilize the bike. In this video while practicing left/right turns you come down the lane to stop prior to making your turns noting that you are coasting with no friction zone required. I can hear there is no power being applied as you coast to a smooth stop (you make it look easy!). I'm enjoying these lessons and greatly appreciate your help, this was just a little confusing to me especially since coming to a smooth stop is a weakness of mine I'm trying to work on. Thanks for all you do.

I think jerry Palladino teaches to use the front a rear break and that’s the way I was taught too. You made a good point about when you’re going slow you tend to grab the front break out of habit I’ve dumped my bike doing that. So if riding doubles do you still just stop with the back brake?
@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle

Yes I still do between 1-10 mph. That’s the speed I’m referring to. Check out my 2-up video.

Im a new rider. I think half of my issues that Im having is that Im still practicing in my back yard which is slanted upwards and full of mole holes. Havent gotten up enough confidence to take it on the pavement yet. I was doing great for awhile but I fell off once and was thrown about 10 feet off the bike a 2nd time. Every sence then Ive been intimidated and have gone back to slow speed stuff.

My motorcycle club was part of a funeral procession for a "fallen" brother (who was a WWII vet and retired NYPD LEO). The lead car was going SO slow we ALMOST had to "duckwalk", which would've looked very silly to passersby, and which would have been very annoying to us.

So I have a question Robert, about something I am unable to confirm, sitting here watching the motorcycle images on a monitor. It's just hard to tell. I do not know the technical name for them, but I'll call them "scrape studs", for now. Did YOU remove and/or, do you recommend to remove those metal studs from the bottom side of the floor boards? I just want to know if keeping them installed would LIMIT my "dip & lean" ability, a little? Or, do you advise to leave them on? Thank you in advance sir.
@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle

Hey Reginald. I would leave them on. In fact, I see no advantage in removing them. Hope that helped. 👍🏾

@@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle Okay. I just thought to ask, because I am keenly aware of how "deep" you dip your CVO. Sometimes I can even "hear" something scraping, as you execute certain moves. Robert I’ve been working on exercises 1-4 for the past 3 days. Since riding again 10 years ago I have used the front brake just at the end of the stop. Day one of practice I didn’t think my old brain could break that habit. Day 2 wasn’t much better but today was much better. On the way home I took city streets and about 75% of the time did it right. Exercise 3 is a challenge as well as the right turns from a stop but there is improvement. Thanks for the videos.

Question: I’m 4’11” and this past summer was my 1st year on a larger bike, HD Street Glide. I ride the same size bike as many of the male riders in my riding group. But leaning this bike at slow speeds is my greatest fear. I practice and practice, but can’t get over that fear. My question is, if I had to practice just one exercise, over and over, what would it be?
@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle
@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle 3 года назад
Hi Lisa. Good question. I have a question for you. You stated you "practice and practice". What exactly are you practicing?
@lisaevans9388
@lisaevans9388 3 года назад
@@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle I practice with the orange cones, weaving in between them at low speeds, I practice trying circles (starting with large circles and trying to make them tighter and tighter), and lastly I practice trying to pull into a parking space between two cars at low speeds. The last one is similar to me pulling up to the gas pump for gas. I have a bad habit of stopping before I turn in toward the pump and just slow walking my bike to the pump because I’m scared to lean my bike at slow speeds.
@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle
@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle 3 года назад
@@lisaevans9388 I recommend exercise #2 (Slow Ride), #3 (Trust & Believe), #5 (Single Serpentine) & #6 (U-turn). The key to you getting over your fear of leaning the motorcycle is trusting and believing that as long as you have sufficient power going to the rear wheel, the bike won’t fall and you have to master clutch and throttle control, along with usage of the rear brake. So I wouldn’t recommend you do one exercise over and over. I recommend you do all of these over and over.

Hi Robert, I saw the number on your police motorcycle when you were in New York. 2226 was large numbers and to the right of the 6 was smaller numbers 14.
