As a lefty guitar player, I always think righty’s don’t understand it’s not about the dexterity in your fingers- I play piano and both of my hands work together. It’s the fact you have less accuracy in your right arm so strumming feels very awkward, and it’s harder to quickly find the correct string on single note stuff. Of course this can be overcome with practise, but when you’re starting out it helps to not have even more disadvantages put in your way on an instrument 80% of people give up on when it’s in a natural handedness.

Although i get your view. It goes both ways. I am right handed and play guitar. So my picking hand is beter then it would be on my left hand. However learning cords on my lefthand felt as awkward as picking did for you. So i don't think there is a major difference as you have a dominant hand and a weak one. Atleast most have. Therefor i think it does not matter that much although i do find my handpicking as difficult as my chord hand.

Agreed. Sawtooth doesn't compromise on their left-handed models like others have. Another thing not mentioned is set up. Many companies that sell lefties guarantee an inspection and a setup, but they hold the guitar right handed and miss any damage under the guitar where the left handed player normally sees. Fortunately, my Sawtooth lefties have been solid. I appreciate that Sawtooth treats me equally as other guitarists.

Im right handed, played for 30+ years on RH guitars. Broke a finger on fretting hand. Re taught my self to play left handed. With in two years I have far exceeded where I was on a right hand guitar. I now believe your fretting hand should be your dominant hand not the other way around.

What's up MAB! Back in the day the internet was filled with hate against you. Now I see how much of that hate was jealousy. Your teachings are spot-on and have helped me more in terms of speed than anything else. I'm finally making it to the shred zone; yesterday I played stuff at 187 bpm. MAB is totally right about the "crash and burn" thing. The analogy of launching football players to get them to feel what it's like to go faster than they currently can was a game changer for me. The internet and many of our teachers taught us to go from 70 bpm to 72 bpm, to 74, etc... screw all of that. Make huge increments, giant steps, then go back and do it again. I experienced enormous & quick improvements that shocked me. And now I know. With enough dedication and the right approach anyone can play fast. All these clowns on the internet don't realize how well you can play. They can only wish they had such dedication to skill as you. Granted I'll never reach this insane level because clearly you live & breathe Guitar. Just thankful for all the stuff you have put out over the years, and continue to. Legend

Lefty here! I'm so glad that the market for lefty players has improved over the years even in my short time playing! When I started in 2005 the choices were VERY limited, and lefty offerings were an entry-level in black or a VERY expensive model in 1 or 2 colours. While today's market leaves much to be desired, the likes of ESP LTD, Schecter and more WILL have something affordable for us that plays great. If it makes sense to hold a guitar in a lefty orientation, play that way, and don't limit yourself. If I didn't play lefty, I never would have played at all!

My theory is that BB King is left handed but was taught to play right handed. That’s how he has that sweet feel to his vibrato because it so natural with your lead hand.

nah the double guitar solo hes no where near as fast or intricate when playing lefty,but i do appreciate the lefty love,kramer put out budget barreta specials but no lefty option,that saddened me@@trance9158

I've been playing since 16 years old . I'm left handed and have had issues getting guitars . I just flipped the strings around and played most of the time. I found it awkward at times but it worked .

Ive been playing right handed since '87 and left since '05 after seeing Batio. The timing differs as what hand doing the picking is different in strength. I get more ideas on left handed guitar. I can play easier on right hand guitar but i dont like practicing it because its too easy and it feels sloppy as my hands arent as tight. Ive tried using 0.6 mm picks on right guitar to teach less force in picking but i suspect my brain wiring favors a left guitar. My dad is left handed. Ive found that guitar colors matter more playing right guitars for feel, not so much left guitars, black is fine and thats what i have in my left squier strat. I find it interesting that Batio says he picks slower with his left hand.

a friend of mine is left handed and play right handed, he says he thinks he would be faster and better if he played a lefty guitar, and that now that he is almost 40 he says it's to late to play on a lefty guitar because he would have to relearn how to play guitar all over again, which I tried to convince him is not true since he has the theory, and the knowledge, and just needs to retrain his muscle memory! Am i wrong?

sometimes I play left-handed, write, draw or play the guitar left-handed, more because of the paranoia of losing my right hand hehe, but yes, there really isn't much difference playing with the left, you have to practice that a lot, but it's not something you've already done :)

I am left handed too and started out playing right handed because I figured it would be advantageous to have my dominant hand fretting. Turns out my right hand was terrible for picking and I would get pain in the wrist so I switched to left handed after a few years. I've gotten much further playing left handed now!

1:40 exactly. unless you are missing fingers, there is no reason to not play a regular guitar... which in my opinion is already ergonomically optimized for left handed people because they go off to the left... and your dominant left hand is on the neck. it makes no sense that a guitar that points to the right (opposite of where a left handed baseball player would face) means "left handed". the fact of the matter is, just like pianos, it doesn't matter if you are left handed or right handed. your muscles are starting from scratch either way and how good you get is based on how much you put into it. not which way your guitar faces :P

I want a right-handed piano.. They make programs that reverse an electric piano keyboard to low note right, high note left. And there is a company that makes left-handed pianos..but they are ungodly expensive

There's another issue I have my writing hand on the fretboard and can't get why most others don't so that being said it's brain wiring im a mixed handed person btw...jimmi hendrix kurt Cobain and joe perry have there writing hand on The fretboard...anyone?
