Not the 60s rendition of Ebb Tide, but pretty good for 30 years later. Gosh, we all want to be what we were when we were young. We treasure your music, Righteous Brothers.

The Righteous Brothers didn't write it, and only Bobby Hatfield sang it. Carl Sigman was the lyricist and Robert Maxwell the composer... written in 1953.

Sadly, this is not the original 1965 hit recording of Ebb Tide by Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers. This one was recorded about 30 years later, and Bobby had lost much of his range and power by then.

I was disappointed to listen and realize that this was not Bobby Hatfield's original recording. I'll have to keep looking for an older take. I recommend the Platters' version with Tony Williams on lead. Beautiful, controlled, not overblown. Love the great male vocalists like Earl Grant, Brook Benton, Roy Hamilton, Lee Andrews, and, of course, Jackie Wilson, Roy Orbison and Elvis. Or go back to young Sinatra (I'll Be Seeing You). You can see I'm Otis Redding's #1 Fan, but that's a different style. Love the Everly Brothers and many country singers, too.

Wow! Thank you so much for this - it's awesome! So many songs I have known the instrumental versions of - I have so many LP's that are instrumental (love instrumentals). I've known this song for about 43 years (was about 16 when I first heard it, now I'm 60) and it's the first time I've heard the whole song with all the lyrics. Awesome!

For better or for worse, this is the real Bobby Hatfield. He would have been between 49-51 depending on the exact year the song was rerecorded (I think 1990, which would make him 49 or 50 depending on if his August birthday had past yet). Since Bobby Hatfield died of a cocaine overdose that led to heart failure, my theory is that he did not die of a first time overdose and that he had actually been using cocaine for years, contributing to his vocal loss. Here is a link to an official copy of the rerecording, included on the Righteous Brothers Reunion album: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-q7AWC-baygg.html. They rerecorded a lot of their songs for financial reasons after the resurgence of Unchained Melody with the 1990 hit movie Ghost. And I agree, the original was better. Being 25 and not 50 also helped immensely.

This actually was Bobby Hatfield when the Righteous Brothers re-recorded some of their songs in the early 1990s. Bobby's vocal condition had deteriorated over time. Bill Medley's voice did not get as bad as Bobby's did. I prefer the originals over the rerecorded versions.
