There are no two vocalists in rock'n'roll who, together, sing with this much sheer power, or with this much range, or with this much intensity. It is absolutely breathtaking.,
Melissa Ward here. This is perfect. Singing their hearts out as a duo, and totally respecting each other's talent. Love this song and the performance is outstanding.
This song is nothing short of amazing. Especially this particular live vocal performance. The music track is from the Wrecking Crew studio original backing recording. The vocals here show sincerity in the plea for the girl’s love and attention. Bobby and Bill liked this song enough to put such an effort into singing 🎤 it, that they each “owned it”..... Now THAT’S TALENT!
Approx. at the beginning of the final chorus (2:30) or so.....posibbly the best vocals of any duo(male or female) ever recorded.....Unmatched talent from when pop music was REAL...... Rest in poeace Bobby Hatfield.....
Just saw the show Beautiful, about life of Carol King. She and husband Gerry Goffin wrote this song. It is truly a Masterpiece and Righteous Bros add so much soul to this. I keep replaying this song !!
The Righteous Bros. were good friends with Paul Revere. I attended Paul Reveres funeral here in Boise. Bill and his daughter sang for the memorial. Bill is showing his age like all of us are.
The story of how the RB's came to be so named is great. They were playing in the blackest of black clubs (pretty ballsy in early 1960's America) and tearing it up. One of the guys in the crowd jumps up and hollers "you brothers are righteous" and so they are and would be named from that night on Their songs hit hard and always come straight from the heart and soul!
It wasn't the blackest of black clubs. Where does this stuff come from? It was a club in Santa Ana called Jon's Black Derby--it's a hat. Some black Marines from the nearby El Toro Marine base heard there were white guys singing R&B so they went to check them out. They liked them and, they frequently went to see them during the months they performed at the club. It was the Marines who started calling them righteous brothers even when encountering them coming and going.
EVerytime I hear this, it brings tears to my eyes its so heartbreakingly beautiful. Thanks for sharing one of the all time greats. Their best song, in m opinion.
I get the same emotions Sheila. Although I was only a elementary school kid the song evokes memories of those years we remember as the sixties and my emotions are for longing for the world to get back to a time when music like this was pure and from the pure of heart. My favorite from Bill and Bobby too.
Sheila Riley - I agree ☝🏻 with you.
I can't find evidence of this but I recall seeing an interview of The Righteous Brothers and in that interview they claimed that "Just Once In My Life" was THEIR favorite Righteous Brothers song. For a certainty it's my favorite.
On this day in 1965 {May 12th} the Righteous Brothers performed "Just Once In My Life" on the ABC-TV program 'Shindig'... One month earlier on April 10th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #9 and spent 11 weeks on the Top 100... The song was track one from the album of the same name; the album spawned the #4 hit, "Unchained Melody"... R.I.P. Mr. Hatfield {1940 - 2003} and Jimmy O'Neill {Shindig's host; 1940 - 2013}...
Had a chance to see them in Baltimore a few years ago, but passed up the opportunity. Have regretted that decision ever since, as Bobby passed away shortly after.
