Also listen to Ebb Tide, if you like a romantic ballad, that will knock your socks off. Also kudos to Andy Williams orchestra, they did great job with the accompaniment. Also when the boys sang with him before, that was a nice little bit of fun with the three of them.

@@dubzer0649 they didn't have autotune back in the sixties or even the 80s. You had to be able to sing/perform live, or a good music manager would hire vocal coaches and whatnot to help train you to do so and wouldn't let you debut until you could do it flawlessly/without losing your breath or cracking your voice.

Bobby had a perfectly controlled 4 octave range. We're fortunate that his passion for music was in this genre. If he had wanted and trained for opera, he could have excelled as a world class tenor like Caruso or Pavarotti, which would have been great for opera fans, but the world would have lost a lesser known, but world class soul singer.

The late, great Bobby Hatfield with one of the best live vocal performances ever. This was on the Andy Williams Show in 1965. I remember watching it with my Mom and Grandma and we were all amazed. 50+ years later I was so happy to find it on YT, because in 1965 there was no way to record from tv so I had to be content with memories. This song has been performed by many before and after Bobby, but he owns it. Next check out (You're My) Soul and Inspiration. This was sung LIVE in 1965 .. no auto-tune, no naked dancers, no smoke or mirrors ... just pure raw talent and blue-eyed soul ... Bobby had an amazing range of 4+ octaves! To find out how they got their name, watch this full performance in the Andy Williams Show ... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FZZqf3AVJbE.html ... enjoy! Righteous Brothers are two guys who are not actually brothers, they are a duo. But this is a solo song so they flipped a coin to see who would sing it .. this is Bobby Hatfield, and the other member of the duo was Bill Medley who arranged the music for this performance .. and he did so well with that, building up the music to the passionate end, so credit to Bill Medley too .. I also read that Bill Medley played the piano in the background for this song, and that Bobby sang this song while suffering from a head cold! This performance was done live, (with no auto-tune or other devices used by today’s musicians) and was better than the recorded studio version. Bobby suffered from stage fright and was particularly nervous in this performance because his parents were in the audience... you can see him bite his lip then grin at the end because he knew he nailed it!

When they signed their first big recording contract, they went to the Porsche dealer and the salesman kicked them off the lot, told them to come back when they grew up and had some money. So they went to another Porsche dealer and each bought a new Porsche. Then drove over to the first dealership and drove around the lot for awhile to let the salesman know he blew two sales in one day.

They flipped a coin to decide which of them would get to sing this. Bobby Hatfield (Rip, last year)) won but didn't know that his mom was to be in the audience that night. He was so worried that he wouldn't be able to nail it. Watch that little lip-bite right before his smile at the end. He knew he did. His blue eyes is what gained them the moniker blue-eyed soul. In that year, when black radio stations found out they were white they stopped playing their songs!

This first appeared in the 1955 movie Unchained, starring the former football player Elroy "Crazy Legs" Hirsch. The movie takes place in a prison, and the song was written for the movie to reflect the mood of the prisoners as they wait for time to pass. Alex North wrote the music, Hy Zaret wrote the lyrics, and a black singer named Todd Duncan sang the version in the movie. Bobby Hatfield, who had a higher voice than Bill Medley, sang lead on this track. It was his idea to record it, since Medley and Hatfield were each allowed to choose a song to sing as a solo vocalist on their albums. As Medley tells us, Hatfield knew the song well, and was a big fan of the Roy Hamilton and Al Hibbler versions of the song. The famous climax of this song where Bobby Hatfield sings the high "I need your love" line wasn't how the song was written. In our interview with Bill Medley, he explained that Hatfield did two takes of the song, then left. He would often reconsider his performance and come back later to change it, and that's what he did on this track, returning to ask Medley if he could make an edit. This was no easy task, since with a maximum of four tracks to work with, you had to record over part of the original take, but Medley accommodated and Hatfield delivered that soaring vocal line. Said Medley: "I punched that in and he left. He said, 'No, I can do it better.' And I said, 'No, you can't.' [Laughs] And I think it's a big part of that song." When the movie Ghost brought this song back to the charts, it marked the second time a Patrick Swayze film boosted the fortunes of Bill Medley. In 1987, Medley's duet with Jennifer Warnes, "(I've Had) The Time of My Life," became a #1 US hit when the film it was written for, Dirty Dancing (also starring Swayze), took off at the box office. In 2003, Hatfield died of a heart attack at age 63.

The song was written between 1954 and 1955. In 1955 there were 4 versions by 4 separate artist. When the Righteous Brothers got this it's been theirs, well more Bobby Hatfield's; his version is the standard that many are compared to. Both Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley had songs in US Films, Bobby's unchained Medley appeared in Ghost with Demi Moore Whoopi Goldberg, and Patrick Swayze and Bill Medley's sang Time of my life with Jennifer Warnes, Starring Patrick Swayze, Jennifer Grey and Cynthia Rhodes ( hell of a soundtrack ) On this live performance his Mother ( possibly dad ) is in the audience. At the end he bites his lip as he knows he nailed this song. Both Bobby and Bill do an album each of their own songs, both wanted to do this song for their album; Bobby won the coin toss, after hearing this version, Bill Medley is reported to ask Phil Spector; " What am I supposed to do after this?" Phil Spector's reply... Take the money to the bank. There are thousands of covers of this song, sung by Elvis, Robson and Jerome many, many others many come close, but none beat Bobby's rendition. Basic history: from Wikipedia: They began performing together in 1962 in the Los Angeles area as part of a five-member group called the Paramours . In 1964 music producer Phil Spector came across the Righteous Brothers when they performed in a show at the Cow Palace in Daly City, CA. where one of Spector's acts, The Ronettes, lead singer Veronica Bennett (later known as Ronnie Spector), was also appearing. The rest is history. "Unchained Melody" is a 1955 song with music by Alex North and lyrics by Hy Zaret. North wrote the music as a theme for the little-known prison film Unchained (January 1955), hence the song title. Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film soundtrack. It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by the Righteous Brothers. According to the song's publishing administrator, over 1,500 recordings of "Unchained Melody" have been made by more than 670 artists, in multiple languages. Of the hundreds of recordings made, the Righteous Brothers'( Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley ) version in July 1965, with a solo by Bobby Hatfield, became the jukebox standard after its release. Hatfield changed the melody in the final verse and many subsequent covers of the song are based on his version. The Righteous Brothers recording achieved a second round of great popularity when it was featured in the film Ghost in 1990. In 2004, it was Number 27 on AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs survey of top tunes in American cinema.

I'm not much younger than Van & the records from Them were a big part of my childhood. Gloria & Brown Eyed Girl were 2 more of my favourites from the band.

Some more Righteous Brothers videos for you - 1) You’ve Lost That Lovin Feelin (Bill Medley’s deep bass-baritone voice) .. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Hziqpg7HeBY.html ... 2) Bobby Hatfield singing ‘Summertime’ live in 1964 .. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mhmzauy-ISA.html. .. 3) Bill Medley, Bobby Hatfield and Andy Williams having some fun on stage.. “What’d I say’ .. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KGClv9GKYmo.html. ... Andy Williams was so great to join in with the fun and make a fool of himself dancing like a chicken running for its life... but check out Bobby’s smooth moves (pre MJ’s Moonwalk) and Bobby loved to play tricks on people during performances .. in this one he just seamlessly starts singing a whole octave higher, leaving Andy speechless ..

Listen to You've Lost that loving feeling by them and also You'll never walk alone. Thr first song held the record for being played the most on American radio history. No other song has surpassed it in the 20th century. It has over 8 million plays and counting. There are so many look up Righteous Bros You'll be surprised they were together from 1963 to 2003 other than a few breaks for personal reasons. How many Duo's can say that.

The most played Prom song of all time. [btw this song appeared in the Movie "Ghost" starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore] In that movie, Whoopie Goldberg's character got possessed by the ghost of Patrick Swayze's character, and made out with Demi Moore's character. Probably 1 Million babies or more were created when this song was playing. [probably the same number of babies made while ACDC - You Shook Me All Night Long was playing in the back ground]. Another ACDC song for bro to listen to!

No, no Autotune pure tenor voice. Bill Medley is the other brother baritone. They are not brothers, Try " You've Lost That Loving Feeling n Soul and Inspiration " I was lucky to meet Bill n he is still singing Bobby tenor died a few years, The last notes he sang not many women can hit that high note

The song was written for a 1955 movie called Unchained, about a guy in prison who couldn’t wait to get back to his girl. The guy who wrote the lyrics refused to put any of that stuff into the song so it became a general love song, sung by many before the Righteous Brothers did it .. but nobody else did it like this, altho many other singers covered the song later (including Elvis) and based their versions of it on this version by The Righteous Brothers ... Bobby sang another version for the movie “Ghost “ and this revived interest in the 1965 studio version (this one) which was then re-released. The Righteous Brothers and this song made history by having two different versions of the same song in the Top20 of the charts at the same time, competing against each other! Unfortunately, Bobby had already passed away when this duo was inducted into the RocknRoll Hall of Fame .. but his buddy Bill Medley paid tribute to Bobby by singing Unchained Melody, in a slow, gentle and very touching way.

Bobby had severe stage fright which had to have been worse as his parents were there during this Andy Williams show performance. Bobby had a *four octave range* . What you seeing her is complete CONTROL in his singing. He didn't have to *strain* his high notes. Their song "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" holds the record as most song plays ever on the radio. If you REALLY want to listen to a true blue eyed soul listen to "I Just Want to Make Love With You". The ladies listen and get blushed.
