What's even more amazing is that these guys are singing this song live. And sound that good. Timeless music from a time that fewer and fewer of us can remember firsthand.
They were inducted into the ROCK and ROLL HALL OF FAME in 2003.Unfortunitely Bobby Hatfield passed away a few months after but Bill Melody is still singing and performing today and doing concerts.
Great reaction. I used to dance to this in Philadelphia. Their voices blend so beautifully. Bill Medley is the tall one. He is still alive. Bobby Hatfield is the the other one, he is deceased.
I am probably three times his age and I will never get enough righteous brothers . It's to bad they have sang their last song but these songs will be around for a long time . I think "unchained melody" was probably their best release . A 1955 little known movie song to one of the greatest songs of all time thanks to the righteous brothers .
Interesting story...when they were starting out they had a different name. They finally got a gig at a primarily black lounge. The crowd did not want a couple of white guys singing in the club. When they started singing, the crowd loved them. Someone told them that they were some righteous brothers, so they changed their name.
Kim, I beard it was a black waiter at the club. He said something like, y'all are righteous brothers. And that's when that name stuck. Anyway, that's the story I heard.
@@TexasRose50 It was actually a group of black marine's from the El Toro Marine Base in California. Bill Medley said at the end of their performance, a black U.S. Marine in the audience would shout, "That was righteous, brothers!", and would greet them with "Hey righteous brothers, how you doin'?" on meeting them. This is a citation from his memoir.
Oh, forgot, this was not a lounge. they sang for marines and guys that they sang to kept yellin, "All right Righteous Brothers." So, that is how they got their named changed to The Righteous brothers. you can read up on it with Bill Medley on you tube. He is now playing with some guy in Vegas called Bucky. It was so sad when Bobby Hatfield passed away.
I grew up listening to them, but I always thought this song came out maybe in the late 70s or early 80s until I started watching reactions to them and learned that this is from the early 60s. My mom was still a toddler when this song came out! Their music is timeless, and the talent they brought to the music industry is rare indeed.
Your reaction is how they got their name. They played a USO show for an integrated Army audience and a soldier hollered out 'You are righteous brothers" and they took the name. They aren't actually related but their voices complement each other perfectly.
No autotune or that bullshit just dudes thet could actually sing . This garbage today will not be here in 5 years much less 60 years . I think this was about 1965
Your life has just been massively enriched by the human voice actually becoming an instrument. The Righteous Brothers exemplify the very best in singing from the soul. So glad that another generation is discovering great music from generations that came before them. These guys are just amazing. Keep searching. There are more musical surprises to be discovered. Peace.
After all these years, I still get chills when I hear this song ❤️ 💚 💙 💜 Couple Fun Facts: They got their name from some black marines who saw them perform as the “Paramours” in 1963. They shouted, “that was righteous brothers!”, Sonny and Cher were part of the backing vocals, & last but not least, heir manager booked them into a black nightclub in Watts, California before they got big, & the patrons of the club started throwing things at them on stage when they saw they were white, & The Righteous Brothers didn't know what to do, so they just started singing, & all the patrons sat down with their mouths open, & wouldn't let them leave after that, & the term, Blue Eyed Soul, was introduced 😃 👓 👓 😃
Recorded in 1964. Bill Medley sang most of the song is alive, 82 and still performs. Bobby Hatfield who did those high notes died in 2003. Great, great song. One of best without all the fans ways now to record. Just sang song with some backup. 9:16
Bill Medley still alive. Bobby Hatfield has passed.Sheer greatness from these 2 gentlemen. Who - back in the day didn t know this music and the RB well? They were tremendous for a long time.Your joy is no different than was ours then. So nice to see new crop of listeners enjoying the old legends.😀
When you were bowing and saying how much you loved the raspy voice I was thinking "just wait Doc you ain't heard nothing yet" referring to the part when they got up on the middle stage and let it loose
Released in 1965, and produced by the genius record executive and producer, Phil Specter. It went #1 worldwide in less than one week. The Righteous Bros went on to a spectacular recording career that spanned almost 50 years.
I have watched almost every reaction to this song, and yours is probably my favorite now. Such a great reaction video! This is one of my favorite songs. I like the way you analyzed many parts of the song, breaking it down, and sharing your thoughts. And you keep it light and fun. You are right, their 2 voices work so well together on this, one low and one high, trading off. I had a great time watching
Soul with a Capital "S:" Produced by Phil Spector and his wall of sound. This is why they are ALL in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame, ( Bill, Bobby & Phil)
I grew up on this and other great music. People actually sang and played instruments. No autotune, synthesizers, etc. I have been to a Righteous Brothers concert and they were as good live as they were recorded. No difference. Same with other greats like Roy Orbison.
Hey, don't knock synthesizers, they were around in the 60's as well, and are legitimate instruments. Rip on autotune all you want, though... that shit's garbage.
This is--as far as I can recall--the only song that I never, EVER get tired of hearing. I bought it on 45 when it first came out, and pretty much wore it out. Then I bought another one. Wore that one out, too. I think Phil Spector sent his kids through college just on the money I spent on Righteous Brothers records. The thing that really strikes me about this particular song is that i honestly don't know anyone who wasn't completely bowled over by it the first time they hard it. There are some songs that, when you first hear them, you think, "That's' not too bad", and the more times you hear it, the more you start to like it. Then after a while you start to get a little tired of it. and eventually you forget about it and go on to something new. But this song just plain knocks you on your ass from the get-go--like it did to you--and from then on you NEVER tire of it. It's almost like it burrows its way into your brain, and you just can't get it out. And you don't want to, anyway.
Phil Specter and the wall of sound. This was done in one take in the studio, in mono. Blue eyed soul at it's very best. If you can find it try the Phil Specter produced River Deep, Mountain High by Tina Turner.
Thanks Marilyn, I'd forgotten what songs Phil did that for. It really is a tribute to Phil that he was a great producer. Just a great technique and style. Cher said she MIGHT have been in the background.
I love the contrast between between the raspy "baby" moments and the tenderness of the "Baby, baby, I get down on my knees for you". Throw in the richness of the rest of his singing and the falsetto coming in, there's nothing you could do to this song to make it any better than it is.
I hope whenever you hear some young person not giving old music a chance, just because it's "old", you're going to set the record straight. Preach to your fellow young'uns. Old doesn't mean bad.
there is no old music, we are listen to Mozart and Beethoven and personally i only listen to music until the 90s because i just dont like most of the stuff released after the 90s. Music is not like fashion or a trend like skinny jeans or whatever. Its more like food, you eat what you like the most. Its like when people say uww spaghetti is old food
Bill Medley is still alive. My favorite is I’ve Had the Time of my Life from the movie Dirty Dancing. I can’t listen to it over & over & over again......👍🏼👍🏼😁
New to you. Christmas surprise for me! Nice reaction, and I hope you keep them coming. I am only 1 of their legion of fanatical fans. They were great, they were RIGHTEOUS, "Bue-eyed soul" was a specific reference to them, and by the way they were only soul brothers, not biological ones. There are many of their songs on RU-vid, my personal favorite was UNCHAINED MELODY, 1965, live solo performance by Bobby (the tenor), and I hope you treat yourself and us with your reaction. Easy to spot - Bobby is blonde, young (25) and wearing a pink sport jacket. Recorded by something like 670 people around the world, well known, like Elvis, but no one ever came close to Bobby. Consensus is that this is Bobby"s song, and I agree! I believe, but I'm not sure, that I read that "Unchained Melody was the most recorded song ever, and also that it got the most air time.Happy Holidays Doc!
I am so glad that you enjoyed one of my favorite records from when I was growing up. Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys said that it was the best record he ever heard. The Righteous Brothers were amazing singers, but what can get lost is the music that supported them. This record was produced by Phil Spector, and his "Wall of Sound" technique was very prominent, but it did not overpower the singers. As a person, Phil Spector is absolutely bat-crap crazy, but he was the most amazing producer in the recording business. Check out a few songs by The Crystals produced by Spector, one of the best being "Then He Kissed Me". "Da Doo Ron Ron" is another great song by the Crystals. The Ronettes was another group that Spector produced. One of their biggest hits was "Be My Baby". Check these records out, and listen to the music. I think that they are amazing.
Bobby Hatfield died in 2003, age 63. He was found by his singing partner Bill Medley dead in a hotel room from a heart attack brought on by cocaine use. His heart wasn't in great shape, but cocaine is deadly especially if someone already has heart disease. Stay away from drugs, people! Gone too soon. This song still makes me cry.
How this song/video received 37 dislikes is beyond me... The Righteous Brothers are amazing. It's cliché I know, but they don't make em like this anymore.
This song had a resurgence in 1986 when Top Gun came out. A very famous scene was this song..... " she's lost that lovin' feeling" "no Mav, she hasn't" "yes she has"....
Love your reaction! It looked genuine. I did not know it was the most played song in the 20th century. Thanks for passing that along. I was 15 when that was film....1965. Good memories!!! :)
I love that you read up on them before the video 💖 I grew up in Metro Detroit, so I was raised on Motown. Even my little mind was blown when I found out at the age of like 7 that they were white dudes. This song is definitely a GOAT. Gives me ALL the feels every time
They are sooo good, I've often wondered if they are the white Jackson family. You just have to think how much practice did they go through together. Melodies, harmonies sound PERFECT.
Bobby Hatfield is the little one that sang Unchained Melodies, passed away about 13 years ago. Bill Medley , the other one here, is still performing with a different partner, mostly in Las Vegas.
It is so nice in the day and age of total divisiveness to watch a young Black man appreciating the music of my generation and "Blue Eyed Soul." In addition, I realized I had the chance back in the 70's to approach Bobbie Hatfield, (the 'high' part falsetto) who was playing the slots in Vegas and just tell him he had my Mother's maiden name for a last name. Then I thought better of it, and made the decision to just leave him alone. Now I wished I had just talked to him even if he just brushed me off. Amazing one of the best Duos ever. Bill Medly is still alive. I am now going to watch to see your reaction to "unchained melody," can't wait.
The reactions when they find out they're white is just hilarious. And it is O K !!! Just glad y'all don't think we all sound like Coldplay lmao :) Great video man. Stay safe.
Bobby Spector wrote this song about his father who passed away. He put on his tomb stone .......TO KNOW HIM IS TO LOVE HIM........I was in senior year of H.S. When this came out and it was played at all the dances we attended. Great slow dancing. Please play to know him.
Try The Righteous Brothers "I Just Want To Make Love To You". You will swear their black. ;-) Proving soul has no color and it's all about the feeling.
You're right. Today and even in the future will acknowledge 20th century as the renascence of Music. The problem with today's music in the 21st century is we have too many artist with inflated ego. Their persona is more important than their song.
I have seen this video many times now, I just like your reaction so much ! Music is emotion and your reaction to this great song is.....well just great. Salute to you!!
It's funny. I have watched sooo many of ya'll reacting to this song and NO ONE has mentioned (at the beginning of the song) how Bobby Hatfield is sitting! He has his arm leaning on his knee and his head is leaning on his hand! Soooo relaxed...almost seems bored with it all. LOL I realize he wasn't bored (well, I guess he could have been) but I have never seen anyone else, before or after, take that bodily position on a stage. I love this man. May he RIP.
If you like the high notes. Listen to the LIVE unchained melody. You've never heard a man hit high notes so beautifully like he does. FACTS. CHECK IT OUT!!
That is one of my all time favorite songs. As artists go, they were way way way up there on my favorites list. They influenced my taste and liking of music. They inspired my love for Motown when all my friends in my all white Catholic high school, were high on the Beatles. Lol!.
Bill Medley (main vocal) is the guy that sung the main song from "Dirty Dancing", (I've Had) The Time of My Life" with Jennifer Warnes. Also very well sung by Bill. "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" is my favorite Righteous Brothers song.
Hey Rich you had me dancing in my dam seat Bro lol. I love to see the younger generation listen and really appreciate Music. You have a great ear for music my friend. I have a request for you. Soulshine by the Allman brothers. Great video Bro. Michigan in the house with you.
This is a great video and your reaction was sublime...perfection. Thanks for the replays too! The (3) Blossoms are in the background...the main Blossom singer was singing on Oprah recently and she looks great. There is a reaction to this video by a professional musician / sound technician who explains the whole Wall of Sound by Phil Spectre...how he did it and why it was so innovative. Worth watching.
Interesting that you mentioned about the song "making those panties drop". I was 16 when that song first came out--it was their first really big hit--and it wasn't long before their songs became known as "panty-dropping music". And with good reason. Check out "For Once In My Life", "My Soul and Inspiration", "Ebb Tide"--if ever a song deserve the title "panty dropper 'par excellance'," this is the one--and "Unchained Melody" and you'll see what I mean.
The singer with the deeper voice is Bill Medley. He is the male vocalist on a song that you've almost certainly heard before, a song that gets played at almost every wedding called "I've Had The Time Of My Life". I've known this song for several decades but never put 2 and 2 together to realize it's Bill Medly singing this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4BQLE_RrTSU.html
