The moves and mannerisms found in cartoons and movies, especially during monologs, the looks of a video game character in a cut-scene, the jagged movement of an animatronic, and yet the graphics of real life. Surreal.
It's prett late to point this out, but all members of Steam Powered Giraffe have been through Mime and acting classes to help them refine their robot-like movements
I don't want a movie based on Half Life 2, but if one is ever made I think Spine would do a great job as G Man. He would nail the not-quite-normal nature of G Man just through physical acting, and could probably do the voice convincingly too
i'm impressed by The Spines ability to remain in character when he's singing so passionately.. i know this is an older video, but it has such an impact it should never be forgotten
Well the vocal recording isn’t from the lip singing in the video. He’s not actually singing in the video. That’s how you make a music video... his vocals are recorded in a studio into a microphone
What? I understood there is the ice cream monster, the mechanical wicked but my mother language is spanish so I don't know if I am wrong or not. By the way, what does spine says at the end? Something about a diamond
I’ve fallen in love with the spine, like Jesus Christ I love the bands whole aesthetic Robots? Yes Robots that can sing? Yes please! Robots in steampunk that can sing? Just kill me already
+Brownie #1 what exactly are you hoping to accomplish here or are you just troll? I see no merits to you blurting out your opinion whenever somebody has a different opinion... I mean it's fine that you think this song sucks and that their voices suck and everything else but Why Try deliberately start a fight off of that? it's music don't have to strictly be one thing or another
It really is. I've only recently been introduced to The Spine but the more I listen to him the more I become a sissy fangirl... I'm a 21 year old male. Like, what a man. That vocal range. That talent. Those schmoves. That Jawline. Hell, he even does the editing for some videos. What an absolute hunk of a man.... No homo.
I still get that beautiful fuzzy feeling listening to all of you after...quick math..uh.. 8 years! Jesus christ on a rotary cracker thats a while! This one cover will always t-t-t-t-t-t-TINGLE my circuitry in a special way though. Sorry have to go into the shop to rer--r-r--r-r-epair my vocal processors. It's been a w-w-w--wwhile.
I'm a lesbian, and I feel the same way! Of course, Rabbit's got some serious dreaminess going on (makes sense, they're twins in RL, so it's the same throat hardware on supplemental estrogen!)
At 1:55 I think I could fall in love with the twitch in his voice. So professional and well trained. That mark is actually very hard to meet in the middle of a set. Beautiful work! (wonder how many takes it took?) Also love the body animation throughout the set.
I agree. When they first released this and I saw it for the first time. That moment blew my mind. Spine has an azaming voice. He and Rabbit..well Bunny now..are both very amazing. Bunny is the one that does the giraffes voice that comes in near the middle/end. She's amazing.
I didnt think Bunny was her nickname until the transition fully happened. thats my bad. ive been following them a few years now. guess i need to pay more attention to the vlog and announcement videos lol. xD Either way..shes amazing and im happy shes getting more spotlight in newer content.
Just wanted to say how poignant it is that a robot is singing that when she holds him, he's alive. Good choice for a crossover. He'll never die, he gives her immortality. She makes him feel alive, she gives him humanity. What a great love story. Also GiGi.
The Spine, looking into the camera like in The Office: "I am a diamond." Meaning he developed under a lot of stress and pressure XD He doesn't get enough credit for dealing with Rabbit's shenanigans.
I just imagined an entire knock off series of The Office with steam powered giraffe. I have never seen so many images flash in my head at once. Nor have I heard any more accurate statements. Kudos to you
If not for that one time where Honey Bees played on the radio, on a station I never use, I would not have been introduced to SPG. For that moment I am grateful
I'm entranced by Spine's range. The ability to go from an octave so deep to one so high. My speaking voice used to be like when Spine sings in the low range and even deeper. That rumble you can feel in you chest. Like Rabbit, I'm transgender and I trained my voice to, what is for me, a more comfortable speaking register. Singing along though I found I could still get that rumble and it scared me just a touch, lol. You go Spine. You rock.
I heard the original of this the other day, and my first thought was "wow, this girl is not as good as the Spine" before I realized who it was. And I usually like Rihanna's voice.
The fact that this is so well done, and professional despite being done "just for fun" shows how amazing this group really is. Keep up the great work, and really digging that makeup!
I'm so entranced by the way David moves in this, and that's not even getting how well he sings this song. I love SPG, they're fantastic and a wonderful group. Better than anything I've heard in a long time.
***** You keep saying this shit on every single video discussing his vocal range. It makes me feel like it's beyond regular commenting, feels like you have something personal against him. For us non-professionals it's a bit of googling to even figure out what you mean by "forcing voice" and what the difference would be to "authentic" range. I'd still like to point out that SPG bio regarding David Michael Bennett does not mention vocal training. While he has probably taken singing lessons it's certainly not his original profession or long-time career. Hence, it's possible there's something about his technique that doesn't let him hit the notes non-forced even if he was actually capable. Also, SPG hits a very specific genre and it's possible that due to their roles they might be going for more "metallic" voices purposely. You probably have a good point there but I'm not entirely sure your persecution is justified considering the amount of information available.
We need a movie like this... The Spine's and GG go bad, and Rabbit and Hatchworth must save the day. But who will they save? The humans, or their brother?
The Spine's robotics are very subtle. You have to watch it multiple times in order to get the full effect... Yeah... That sounds like a more legitimate line of reasoning... we'll go with that...
There are about four web series started on SPG's official website made by them, yet I believe all of them have been discontinued. However, they're still interested in their own way.
When I first listened to it (before watching the video), I thought that The Spine is singing it with Rabbit, and then I've watched the video and was amazed by his vocal ability, and then I've read that they are twin so thought that maybe Rabbit have put on The Spine's makeup, since there are 2 suits in the video, and then I've noticed that in brass goggles The Spine also shows the same vocal ability. So now I'm just confused and unsure but still amazed
I seriously cannot count how many times I have watched their videos. This cover is so much better than the original. I like how he moves and his vocal range is just phenomenal. He could do some form of an opera if he wanted with that range.
I know how you feel ; m ; I've contributed to at least 200 of the views xD;; I was never really fond of the song until SPG. Now when I sing "Diamonds" in public people inquire if I like Rhianna and I'm just like "Psh, lemme tell ya about Steam Powered Giraffe".
I feel bad for listening to this 56 times because I know that david hated that this is one of (if not )their most popular videos. but the vocal range alone makes me want to hear it over and over
I agree with you. It would be great if like, Brass Goggles or even Honey Bee got more recognition. At first I wasn't crazy for this song, but the more I listen to it, the more it grows on me. This song really does show off his vocal range in a great way. :) I love his voice so much.
No matter how many times I watch any of these videos or listen to any of these songs, I'm always impressed at just how talented the whole team behind SPG is. From the makeup artists, to the choreographers, to the Robots themselves. Their vocal ranges are phenomenal, and they've managed to perfect unnatural, robotic movements. Props to everyone behind the making of this music and its videos!
This surpasses the original version. Rihanna's version, if going by the video, is about an abused woman who chooses to see her abuser as good because she would rather have him than be alone, finding ways to see him as wonderful. It's rather messed up. Spine's cover makes it about a century-old robot who may not understand emotion choosing to look upon the world around it & find happiness in the wonders around. It's rather pleasant.
Let's not banter semantics. The point isn't whether his design is steam or diesel. The point is that Rihanna has definitely been thoroughly outclassed by the Spine and a talking giraffe. And THAT is just freakin' SWEET.
He is Steampunk, the band is powered by steam (unless I missed them not being powered by steam). Steampunk and Deiselpunk refer to not only the aesthetic but what the world runs off of.
I hate this song with a passion, but the Spine's cover is great. And also: it's the Spine. I would expect this from Rabbit more. David, please, you're torturing the fans.
