She developed herself as an artist. Her voice matured- she put in the work. She’s been a blessing to the industry- like Janet she’s brings us all together .
I feel people are being too harsh lol. It's decent for a fifteen year old. Seriously I've heard much MUCH worse from adults. Rihanna has naturally nice voice; maybe she couldn't sing the hardest parts when she was a kid, but she's much better now. She can also riff and imo she is good at adding to a song without over singing or over doing it. No, she's not the greatest singer and it's curious how she got such a huge start but she's certainly not a bad singer either.
+ScorpianaXRAY X that's fine but that doesn't mean she's an awful singer. I admit she's not the best singer but she's not all that bad either. Again, I've heard much worse from adults than what she's doing here.
For a 15 year old with no training these were pretty good vocals and it didn’t go downhill until near the end. Also, it was 100% live and you aren’t always going to sound amazing no matter how good of a vocalist. She paid her dues, y’all are just some haters 😂
@@tink6225 lol no , did you listen to Monica when she's 14 yo singing " Before You Walk Out Of My Life" and Brandy at 14 YO singing "I Wanna be Down" and Michael Jackson at 10 being the lead of Jackson 5? Have some faith in her: she just can't sing since birth!
The shade is she still won this talent show. The girl was destined for super stardom, period. Even if she didn't make it as a recording artist she would've been a high fashion model like Naomi Campbell. After she auditioned for Jay-Z and LA Reid they refused to let her leave before she signed a contract. There were other labels just as desperate to sign her. Some people are just born with the X-Factor.
Lets also recognize the fact that she is light skinned and you CAN get by being mediocre when you are light skinned. A dark skin black woman would NEVER succeed sounding anything like this.
@@thetruth.7858 omg there is always one! "ShE iS nOt liGHt skInNeD" 🙄 Ok Captain Picky, How bout honey skinned? Is that better? Whatever you wanna call her she obviously isnt a dark skinned black woman.
Now, Rihanna is not my favorite musical artist to say the least, but I think she does have some genuine talent. Like, if I didn't know this was her and a sophomore just got up on stage at my school and sang like this, I would be super impressed. Yeah, not every note was in tune, but for a fifteen year old with very little experience in front of a big audience, I thought it was great. Remember not to judge too harshly, people.
For a teen, it wasn't bad. I like it that she developed her own singing style this early. That's one of the things that makes her unique, when you hear her song for the first time in the radio you'll know that it's her.
I love Rihanna. She started off well here and yes she did go off completely at the end but fair play for holding her own on a Mariah song! She was only 15 here with NO vocal training, she was a natural born talent. I’ve been a fan since she started with Pon De Replay, I became a hardcore fan after Rated R because I appreciated her art and what she had to tell the world. I’ve seen her live 5 times and she slayed at every concert! I’ve seen off performances on RU-vid of her yes I won’t deny that but everyone has had their off day. Rihanna IS an ARTISTS and a VOCALIST! She will always be my role model and her music will always inspire and keep me strong! Thankyou Robyn Fenty for always keeping it 100% real in an industry of fake sell outs!!! QUEEEEEN NAVY FOR LIFE!
She's too much better now, she was 15 years old, she was changing her voice and it still sounds good, she's amazing now, i can't believe how much she got better!
To all the haters, she was 15 , was probably nervous as hell and never had a voice coach … before.. there was raw talent in her and a voice to work with and she just needed lessons.. times were way different back then.. now look at her.. A diamond!
Are you fucking kidding me?😄 Just compare Dua Lipa at 12 ( you can find this) and her at 15 .Just compare a lot of kids in talent show and Rihanna in this age. Her career is something not understanding for me.
I'm a huge Mariah fan but guys come on this is Rihanna doing a tribute to her idol. It's not meant to be an American Idol audition. It's a high school talent show. I think she did fine. The end was a bit messy but overall it was good. She's so much better now
yall haters can pipe down, the point is she had a distinct unique voice that had IMMENSE POTENTIAL, the voice training took her to the A level. so shush
I mean, for an island girl that comes from serious poverty, she did pretty good. Im guessing she had to teach herself how to sing. Even though shes not the greatest, you can tell that theres an insanely good voice in there and all it needs is to be trained professionally. People hatin on her, but Britney Spears and all the other female pop kids came from families that put them through an insane amount of training because they could afford to. Riri came from a single mom who was fleeing a violently abusive husband.
Yeah. Britney's parents can afford the lessons but they chose to sell her off to those fcking devils and forced her to do the baby voice which ruined her voice.
Just because she is an island girl that doesn't mean she came from serious poverty. I am from Barbados and I am not poor. Rihanna was not poor. She wasn't rich either but was not in "serious poverty".
Are you guys fucking serious? That is good. I mean it's not her best, but at that time she's never had vocal coaching and shit. Some people just want to shit on everything and hate so much that they will not even admit the fact that she was born talented, and with lots of hard work and stuff look at what she accomplished. Stop critisizing, give yourself a break.
Based on Google, the record producer saw something special in her that he then flew her to the US at this age. I go to RU-vid to see for myself what he might have saw, & honestly im confused as to what was so special about her audition.
@@JadeKosxx ya she did good for her age but it wasnt that amazing and remember that beyonces father was actually teaching and making beyonce practice which im not saying she hated and rihanna does sound nervous
I don't see how this is bad! Her voice is amazing! I would love to see other people try to sing this with such control, confidence, and talent at this age!
Rihanna was scared but she can sing you could hear it in her voice 💯😊😊😊😊 she has personality, style, she’s humble and she never gave up nobody could sing like Rihanna her tone is powerful and unique clap 👏🏻 to God 🎤 because Rihanna is gold
Although she's so young you can still tell it's rihanna, she has pure talent so when you here a song by her you know straight away it's her. THATS MY GIRL - love Connie
+1 Bang u Taylor never tried riffs like Aguilera, Taylor literally knows her limits and tries to hit high notes but knows she can't so she doesn't write songs like that.
246 IS THE AREA IF YOU AINT FROM THE AREA KISS RI RI SEXY ASS 20 years since then and the woman making millions 246 WHERE ME FROM BAJAN PEOPLE GET INTO THIS MIX
She sounds good for being 15, the haters need to realize her age and possibly the emotions that come with singing those lyrics. "When you feel like hope is gone, look inside you and be strong. Then you'll finally see the truth, a hero lies in you." Her dad was an addict and I can empathize because I have an alcoholic father, there are some lyrics like those that hit hard and that emotion sometimes comes through your voice, that is what I feel was happening here. Love you Rihanna, you have come so far
i feel like there is a potential in this video but she definitely needed a vocal coach.. but yall gotta remember people aint gettin signed cuz they can just sing good.. they get signed if they can sell records.. and nobody made a mistake when they signed rihanna.. she has sold and sold.. and i think now she has improved a lot.. we aren't all born perfect people.. some people need help.. i dont see anything wrong with that.. singing, dancing, acting.. sure a lot people do it and never had a lesson.. but most people need a little help
NimsBrown Well i like her music and her voice .. i dont think anybody "at the top" made me feel that way, i do.. and ive heard her sing live, she has gotten a lot better.. quit being so paranoid.. if iIlluminatis or any of that shit is real we clearly cant do nothing bout it so why freak out.. its been around long enough and i aint ever been personally affected by it and neither have you .. just enjoy the music man
No-one can make you feel anything Aubrey, unless you want them too. Rihanna is not their for her musical talent she is a sex prop. Sex sells and that's her job to sell sex to young girls and boys. You're not being affected by it, is that what you think you really need to educate yourself and open your eyes. This goes much further than just music. Your wrong saying I am only one person and what can I do. What you can do is stop supporting these props with your hard earned money. That's a start!!
NimsBrown i support good music man i honestly dont give a fuck about what you think dude.. the fact that u care so much is pathetic.. you think you are going to change the world? well u cant.. so just enjoy the few years you got to live
I’m a high schooler (freshman) and I have a friend who is also a freshman. She has been singing for about seven years now, and I have only been singing for about two. In eighth grade, her and I were auditioning for our schools variety show (our schools version of a talent show). At the time, I had only been singing for about six months, and I was far from fantastic. We knew about the show about six months in advance, so I started writing a song. It took me about four months of perfecting before I got the lyrics perfect, and even then I still had to work on it. She choose to do the song “hero”. I should probably mention that I’m a guy, and My voice hadn’t changed yet, so I could still hit relatively high. I ended up getting closing act, and she got somewhere in the middle. She was a far better singer than I was, and technique wise was way ahead of me, but she choose the wrong song. Her voice could go that high without cracking, and she didn’t have any real emotion in it. When I wrote my song, I knew I couldn’t go super high, and saved my voice for the end. The point I’m trying to make is I can garentee you Rihanna back then had just as much talent as now, but just choose the wronnng song.
Yep...This one was definitely over her head skill wise for her at that time... Lol, the funny thing is we don't know how much she's improved from then without the help of tech & studio tricks..
+Cai Cov She has improved since this video came out, that is obvious. However many of today's Pop entertainers either use Melodyne or Auto Tune which is an pitch correction editing tool. And some vocal sections is on prerecorded vocal Stems; harmonies, backups, etc. I believe she uses Melodyne in the studio, I'm not sure what application she's using live, but she is definitely using some sort of unit assistance. There's no getting around it for album quality consistency live. This is the "Tech" I was referring to. Going on stage in a live performance without it is equivalent to her showing up to perform without make up, hair and costumes..It's a part of production today to deliver this flawless performance every time..and is the current industry standard..It is what it is.
Her unique and recognizable voice, her beautiful look, and her tone in her voice is clear. Thats why she's a international big star. There are lots of people can sing, and can sing better her, but they are NOT special as her. I love her so so much tho! (I have to say, the end part sounds horrible ;( this is not the right song for her.
She can sing! She is 15 it looks like it was recorded in a school with rubbish amps and a CD player! She has never had vocal training even till this day and if you watch a recent live show she can sing really good, if she was terrible she wouldn't of made it at all, probably one of the only singers that doesn't use all the mic tricks on stage or lip syncs could name a lot of artists that do she has made it like she's going to care what you'd idiots that have watched the first video of her singing and not all the newer ones that show how far she's come and improved so pipe down fools
0:32 nice riff 1:22 pretty 1:30 love this 0:58 💖 It wasn't even that terrible Do not see what he can not do but the vocal virtues that he may have Don't spread hatred and be nice, maybe I was nervous and it's normal Still did a good job
Rihanna is my queen and she always will be.. And because I respect her so much, I watch this video to remind myself that we all start somewhere.. Fenty
#special ♥....i wish I knew her before it got all crazy. she seems so genuine. one of the things I appreciate about her is because she isn't afraid to wear her heart on her sleeve. She's a fighter! Much love and respect. # #NAVY
Cameron Lewis when I said her voice stays the same. I meant her voice sound the same, And of course I've listened to love on the brain. I didn't mean that her vocal is sucks What I mean, is that she still looks the same and her voice doesn't change.
