Yes, this brings up such a good point about how our labels completely obliterate all of our curiosity and sense of wonder about the true nature of our experience, veiling us from experiencing reality in its purest form in every moment. Sometimes I practice living in timelessness for a day or two on weekends, purposefully neglecting to look at my phone or look at the time to experience more truly the experience of life prior to mind. But with the abundance of labels already instilled in my mind, this practice can only go so far.

Why should your practice be limited? Continous practice is the only way to reach that which is thought be be beyond reach

Sönke Schmidt I cant go longer than that because my lifestyle doesn’t support it. I need to be at work at a certain time each day during the week, and I have commitments that require me to live in time. However I am currently working on manifesting my dream lifestyle of offgrid nomadic living which would enable me to further my practice of timeless living

Knowledge... what is Knowledge?? It seems almost unspeakable... "Knowledge represents your True Self, your True Mind and your true relationships in the universe. It also possesses your greater calling in the world and a perfect utilization of your nature, all of your inherent abilities and skills, even your limitations-all to be given for good in the world." From step 2 - Steps To Knowledge (StepsToKnowledge com) I love that Rilke poem....

The chap early on says something that reminds me of a phrase that occurred to me once: to God, being God is nothing special ... I don't know if you're familiar with Peter Kingsley, Rupert, he's a scholar who claims that some of the pre-Socratics (such as Parmenides and Empedocles) were basically non-dual mystics (and priests, healers and magicians) who practiced and taught something like this method (which he reckons is the original meaning of "common sense," a term later re-purposed by Aristotle to denote what we normally call common sense these days), as well as a more inward-directed practice called "incubation," often used by sick people to help their healing (lying down in a dark place and _giving up_ - picture a dark cave with maybe a dozen people spaced out, lying down, and a few priests/doctors moving around quietly, keeping an eye on things), but also used as practice preliminary to the practice of common sense. With common sense, the idea was to become aware of _all_ the sensory impressions from the 5 modalities, gathered together, as revealing a single sense (hence "common"), consciousness as such - first in sessions set apart, then eventually constantly, in everyday life. There are surely similarities between this and Dzogchen/Mahamudra practice, and the post-Satori practices in Ch'an/Zen too. (I think it's all basically the same across cultures because our _construction,_ the way we're built, is cross-cultural.) The only known biographical detail about Parmenides' teacher is that "he taught him silence" - a phrase that, understandably, would be baffling to a scholar or an academic philosopher, so it's just passed over without much comment in the literature! :) (Interesting side-light, he reckons the same tradition, though lost in the West after a few hundred years, eventually infused the Sufi tradition via Egypt.) Anyway, lovely stuff, as always!

The QUESTion is the Answer ... any question implies the consideration for conceptual discriminating awareness which by default assumes a reference pt in timeSpace. The surrender of the QUEST aligns the seeker with source (as it is of course not possible to truly experience 'severance' from source) as awareness aware of self.

10.04 "what is there before the question?....: In Nisargadatta's teaching, awareness "is that by which I know that I am." Thus the awareness is there before the "I am" (or consciousness) appears, and is there after the consciousness disappears (unconsciousness or death). So the awareness is beyond even the universal consciousness.

Is the inclusive/tantric way also going into the suffering of the senses? Allowing yourself to completely witness suffering in the world and taking it inside? I don't see alot of pleasure in the world. My gaze is naturally inclined to see suffering. It is becoming quite overwhelming. Is there a book or a path that uses this method?

Doesn'T that increase attachment to objects? This is the complete opposite of what this ''Ask A MONK'' guy on youtube says. He says that if you are present with objective experience (Chocolate, Ice cream , sex etc), it becomes laughable, meaningless and worthless. I don't agree with that guy. But it's interesting how different these teachings can be. Incompattible even. I'm finally completely confused :D
@constipatedbowels3473
@constipatedbowels3473 5 лет назад
Kili Fischkopp....the point that the monk(ask a monk) is trying to make is along the lines of "familiarity breeds contempt"...... basically if u r fully attentive to outside perceptions,u wld see them for what they truly are, fleeting temporary stuff......the pleasure these fleeting stuff bring is also temporary,and hence not worth holding on to......!!.... ......u cannot approach this intellectually ,u have to try this out experientially,to found out if this is true or not........ (the attachment that u speak of is just a thought preceded by a sensation ... ....u can try this two step process where u come across an object that is likely to either provoke attachment or aversion in u,try to observe Ur thought process and emotions ,how they get affected by the presence or absence of that object)....
@TheJooberjones
@TheJooberjones 5 лет назад
Total confusion can be useful. The mind has chased its own tail for so long it may finally step back and realize the futility of the endeavor, and stop endeavoring permanently (aka enlightenment)! I believe rupert is referring to the tantric path where you can observe and penetrate one form of phenomena to the point where “you” are lost and there is just one. I find the vedanta path easier, basically you just sit and watch what comes up without engaging until the mind recedes on its own from disuse, its a sort of surrender. This may take quite some time depending on where you are in the practice.
@constipatedbowels3473
@constipatedbowels3473 5 лет назад
@@TheJooberjones actually both Tantra(Buddhist and Hindu) and Vedanta employ both approaches,...but letz call them tantric and vedantic for now..... while both approaches can shed some insight, personally it is the tantric approach that is more pragmatic,........ Vedantic approach is more waiting and surrender,which is great in itself ......but tantric approach asks one to pay attention to the phenomenon and observe what effect that has on oneself... How the phenomenon influences one ,how it conditions one's mind,....the entire mechanism of sense perceptions, thoughts and emotions are revealed in great detail by such an investigation........ Moreover Vedanta streches the concept of ultimate consciousness too much,it's just mind observing mind and senses....!!!.
@TheJooberjones
@TheJooberjones 5 лет назад
Constipated Bowels good insights there i havent heard it presented that way. So you are almost inviting the mind to do its thing or react and then observing that until it loses its “pull”. Hope your bowels are doing ok.
@constipatedbowels3473
@constipatedbowels3473 5 лет назад
@@TheJooberjones The approach is not to interfere with the mental commentary at all,but to watch it,and track its every move,....our thoughts (not even our emotions or sensations) are what create suffering!!......emotions happen, feelings happen,sensations happen,but thoughts(discursive thinking) give these events thier own colour, ....thoughts only create the "me" or separate self.......and hence most pragmatic approach to end suffering is to observe discursive thinking in a non-judgmental impartial manner......the whole point of this exercise is to expose the ridiculousness of the running commentary in our heads............(btw the whole witness consciousness in Vedanta seems a bit contrived)..... ultimately it's just mind observing mind.......... PS:- Thanks for Ur concern, ...appreciate it!!...My bowels have been constipated since the day I had my first experience of "satori"......

So somehow, now the white British man will tell us (Indians) what captures the essence of Tantra? That means that Rupert claims to understand the depth of the Tantric teachings. There is something fundamentally wrong here that is not being addressed. (More below)

Nirali, I would have made the same comment a few years ago, but I slowly woke up and realized it was only my ego talking, trying to defend my identity as an Indian and righteous perpetual victim/enemy of the white man and holder of truth. The ego loves opposition and enemies and holding onto stories of the past. It will keep us fighting and arguing forever in ignorance and away from the truth (the real enemy is within)... If “God” is everywhere and everything, then it is also the white man and everything he has done! Hinduism notes that the whole universe is the divine playing hide and seek with itself, pretending to be separate, pretending to have enemies, it’s all part of Leela, the game. Once we realize who is playing the game and who we are playing it with, all the animosity drops away. I decided to drop my attention to the outside “problem” (in this case it would be white dude appropriating Indian concepts for profit without knowing the full depth), and direct my attention towards who it is in me that is bothered by this situation... turns out it is the survival based ego, that wants to maintain our separateness as he the evil white man and me the good Indian woman. I maintained this separation of “good vs bad” for many years but realized that it brought no real satisfaction, because it was not the truth. Turns out I didn’t know anything about the teachings myself (even though I was born a Hindu), so I can’t really criticize another from another culture for trying to study them. I would rather study it from whoever has the knowledge. Ultimately no conceptual knowledge is the truth- so experiential wisdom is the only thing that liberates. The trouble with us Indians now is that after what we went through with British and other invasions, we became incredibly ego/identity/survival oriented, while not realizing that this hyperego goes against the very teachings that came from our own land. Now we are hyper sensitive to defending our cultural identity around the world, trying to prove ourselves and our worth, gaining status in the westernized world etc, meanwhile non Indians are taking a true interest in knowing the truth. We Indians are going backwards!.. meanwhile, the irony is that a few white people, whose ancestors brutalized the Indians took to the teachings of the East, (probably unable to withstand their own inner turmoil) and became liberated, and now teach it back to the Indians! At this point, I am not too concerned about the identity of the teacher but rather the quality and integrity of their experiential wisdom. It simply does not matter. God is everything and a murderer in jail has equal opportunity for becoming liberated (oftentimes more, as they are driven by the desperation of their own inner suffering) as a monk. Everyone suffers the illusions and delusions of their own mind, and acts it out as victim or oppressor, but ultimately the suffering is the same. I wish liberation for all.
