Interesting thing about the limited tire clearance on the super record rim brakes. My 105 double pivot calipers clear 28 mm easily; I could probably run 30 mm.

I have Super Record 12 speed and Shamal Ultra C17 wheels on Seven Cycles Elium GS (titanium/carbon fiber frame). I bought mine second hand through FaceBook for a fraction of the price of new. I am a recreational rider with 3,000 miles per year (Chicago weather limitations). I am thrilled with the Campagnolo components. I switched from Dura Ace 9000 which was a big improvement in shifting precision, lower friction crankset with CULT bearings. The prior wheelset was Dura Ace c35s. The Shamals spin much longer with less effort.

I've a similar set up and of coruse I'm a huge fun of mech+rim option! I've solved with a new frame with campy rim direct mount rim caliper which allows you to have a tire up to 30mm!

Beautiful bike! On your saddle, you might have a counterfeit or factory second. Check the bottom of the saddle for a quality control sticker. I had the same problem, with no sticker. I ended up buying another one and have been creak free and happy with it!

I also have Campa Athena rim brakes and thought 25 mm was the biggest tyre size I could get away with. But then I measured the Michelin Pro 4 25 mm's that I have on the bike and they are actually 27.6 mm wide.

Your bike is beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Btw, I have Campagnolo Chorus calipers, and I'm running 28mm GP5000 tires with no problems.

I think the limitation in tire width must be due to the way the frame is build, I have Campagnolo Super Record brakes on my road bike and Record Direct Mount on my TT bike and with both of them I could ride 30mm tires without any problems (use 25 and 28 though because on good tarmac I like them more...) btw... you said you cannot block the wheels with those brakes? What brake pads do you use? I use the red Campagnolo brake pads and with them I can easily block my wheels without much forces at the lever

Nice video! Two comments tough: You repeatedly talk about the price of maintenance, yet you are running insanely expensive top spec components. Secondly, going down a mountain on tubeless rim brake carbon wheels - delamination, deformation and other heat related problems are a recipe for disaster.
@sebibuchs
@sebibuchs 3 месяца назад
Thanks! And thank you for the reflections. Your point is totally legit - yes my components are expensive but also my chain has just now worn to the point at which it needed replacing - after over 10‘000km! The same with the wheels: those are top notch carbon wheels and it‘s really worth paying the price as I never had any problems even with long descents:) but of course you can run cheaper components and still have lower maintenance costs I wanted to point out the tendency of disc brake bikes to be higher-maintenance
@Zapii112
@Zapii112 3 месяца назад
@@sebibuchs Fair enough - to me, rim brakes have a place, but it's not with carbon wheels. Safety concerns aside (I guess it's pretty much fine if you run tubular) watching the brake track of your expensive carbon wheels get worn away and basically making them a consumable is just something I can not get on board with.
@sebibuchs
@sebibuchs 3 месяца назад
@@Zapii112 fair enough as well!:) I totally get if people don't want carbon wheels for their rim brake bike because as you said one day they will be worn
@ridley8340

Well I cannot speak for tubeless, but I have been running carbon clincher rim brakes for years and I ride mountain descents all the time. Heat related issues are a non event unless you drag your brakes all the way down or maybe use cheap Chinese rims

Do you think those caliper brakes can handle 30mm tires if the frame can handle it? Or are they limited to 28s

Hello! Where can I buy this bike in Switzerland or Austria and how much do I need to consider to buy it? Thank you very much in advance.

I would check out the Sarto dealers on the sarto website as of now there is „Rochat“ in the french speaking part of Switzerland who sells them but also „Deinrad“ in Luzern or „Gümmelei“ in Wallisellen The frame sets generally start at like 5000-5500.- Swiss francs then it depends what components you choose but it will quickly go over 10‘000.- Swiss francs

Nimble beast, i don't understand why there's not a solution invented for the rainy situation with rim brakes, not a racer, but i've seen trial bikers grind the aluminium rims for better texture, can't it be done with carbon? Anyway road caliper rim brakes the best it has ever made IMO the smaller the strongest is the bite, used for years bigger sized calipers for cyclocross what a pain
@sebibuchs
@sebibuchs 6 месяцев назад
Before disc brakes came into the game the manufacturers regularly updated rim braking surfaces for better modulation/traction so the latest carbon rim brake wheelset will be a lot better already than the first zipp or lightweight wheelsets👌🏻
@IsaacRC

@@sebibuchs Good to know, what's the deal with the industry anyway? Online talk is that rim brake road bikes are no longer considered an option. Hydraulics besides a strong bite feels kinda sketchy in consumer level compared to road rims, not even talk about the mechanic disc brakes for base models like gravel, its like who thinks a rookie signs for injuries or hand pain when investing in cycling?

Are you saying that Campy Record 12 rim brakes cannot be used with 28mm tires, or is the frameset the reason?

In my case it is the frameset especially the fork!:(
