@@stimulatemyexistence5669 , do they ask $400 for this job? Dude I can leave my job as a programmer and start installing plastic strips in the rims. ))
@@sgtjohn4321Yeah you right, a rubber hammer has zero force to disalign the complete Suspension and give the rim small haircracks. Just learn to not ride the curbs and you good
@@Druid_Plow he probably lives someplace like NYC that has extremely poor roads with tons of potholes that will damage the wheel. Even I have been to New places and have hit a pot hole that took a bite out of my wheel even with a tire that had a wider shoulder.
I used to protect everything like this. As I get older I just want to let my expensive stuff do what its supposed to do , we don't live forever let that sh@#t ride .don't save your good clothes wear that stuff !
Do we know each other? Exactly man we don't live for ever, so why not (drive it like you stole it) (Enjoy our lives like we suppose to do) (Say what we want to say) (Give gifts before Christmas) And a lot, more people should remember that the end is coming.
as the person who changes your tires, just don’t hit a curb pls.. (edit for clarity) putting those things on your rim while already having low wall tires (which are stiffer and harder to get off as it is) makes it so much more difficult to change your tire. i get it’s for protection or whatever but then don’t complain when a 30 min breakdown balance rotate takes 2 hours bc our machines are having a hard time with your rims. getting the bead up with those on is damn near impossible with those kind of tires and most people who put those on want to keep them on.. also not to mention all the dirt and shit that gets under them so when you do take them off or sell your car your rims are trashed. just be cautious and don’t curb yo shit.. makes my life AND yours a lot easier. :)
why? and what is the big deal about having tires changed? I run winter tires on the same wheel I use for my summer, takes 1 hour, cost idk 100 maybe but they seem like I just asked them to build me a car. Trying to get me to buy another set of wheels
Our family has been selling wheels and tires for almost 30years all I can say the best protection to your wheels is to give distance to those curbs. No amount of plastic like that is gonna save the wheels from being damage if you hit the curbs.
Can't wait for the white stripes music mash up edit Similar to the weak guy punching the window. Cue guitar riff and Vocals.... From the Queen of england to the hounds of Hell 🔈🔉🔊🎵🎶🎶🎵🎶🎶
I think they do that, because the plastic tends to stretch over time and they give it a little bit of room to stretch that the gap will be filled within a week to 2 weeks after installation.
“To protect the rims we must beat the shit out of the rims” Edit: to everyone who lost custody of their last brain cell, this was a joke. No shit it’s a rubber hammer
It does work!! Alloygator is one of the best brand out there, comes with different colors, and has saved my BMW wheels from costly to repair curb side rashes.
After smacking alloys with that hammer those rims need another laser re-balancing otherwise steering-wheel will either feel horrible or will tremble while car will roll in straight line..
@@poplaurentiu4148ehhh idk man. We get some nasty fucking potholes in NY and I've ridden a pothole that was nasty enough to pop my tire.. My alightment is still dead on XD took getting in a car accident and getting my car totaled to throw the alignment off and that's just because I had to replace my tie rod when I bought the car back and rebuilt it. Maybe some vehicles are worse but my passat takes potholes like a champ
Yes my charger has that, I tap a curb prolly once or twice in 4 years with it and it don’t come close to the actual wheel, just a small scuff on tire till you wipe
Rim protection. *Proceeds to pound the hell out of the rim. *Update*: This comment really seemed to take off, so here I am getting all of these stupid replies. #1 Those that are saying "it's a rubber mallet" clearly haven't seen the destruction a rubber mallet can cause. #2 I've worked on tires all my life, just having the wrong type of wheel weight pounded in (for balancing purposes) can cause the bead to leak. This rim protector is an absolute joke. If things were still built quality, there wouldn't be a demand for this garbage.
@@nothankkyou3176if that was true then a metal hammer can’t damage a diamond.. which isn’t true. But yeah a rubber mallet with that amount of force is not going to damage the rims
I RECKON PEOPLE ARE SO MUCH MORE HAPPY WITH LOOKS OVER FUNCTIONALITY... LOL PEOPLE SPEND HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS ON ONE LOW PROFILE TIRE THAT IS LIKE 80 PERCENT LESS MATERIAL THAN A 35 INCH MUD TIRE AND YOU CAN FIND THOSE ,THAT ARE OF HIGH QUALITY, WAY CHEAPER THAN A RUBBER BAND STRECHED AROUND YOUR SHINY RIM THAT YOU ARE AFRAID TO SCRATCH.... THIS NEW CROWD IS SOMETHING ELSE TO ME...
@@sappyjohnson I had an Eclipse lowered on 18 inch rubber bands in early 2000 and I ended up having to replace two wheels and I don’t know how many tires. It got so bad that I opted to buy used tires. Not gonna talk about the loss of traction in the rain and hydroplaning all the time. Nver again after that
I had these fitted before. Looked good and protected the rims. What they don't tell you it actually scratches the rim when it's installed.. Only knew when I had to change the tyres
It doesn't scratch on install. It scratches when dirt and dust eventually gets inside and the plastic shuffles causing the dirt to move and scratch. You're not supposed to drive with these on, just like the front bumper protectors on dodge chargers. 😂 You're an idiot
@@tyreksimmons4167 or just know not to hit a curb? 😂 what’s the point in driving something that nice if you drive so little u can’t go without hitting a curb 😂. Plus the only time I’ve hit them I’ve just gone over them never scratched a rim. I drive an 08 Cadillac DTS and a 99 Camry so no, it’s not easy to go over a curb either
It's a rubber mallet...if your rims can be damaged by that getting hit with the same strength in the same spots then you have some cheap azz rims made from plastic.....
Normalmente para ese tipo de material el martillo debe ser de goma ni de madera ni de acero porque hecha a perder lo delicado del material ademas de deformar otros componentes de la llanta
Bro I would love to not hit curbs but the town I live in all the curbs are a foot to 2 foot tall because of flooding and it’s a older town so if you have to go to a drive thru or make a tight turn around a corner and there’s another car there our streets are hella thin and curbs hella high lol shit just sucks, if you don’t got rim protection where I live your dumb honestly 😂
I got an even wilder idea. They make tires that flare out to protect your rim fron curb rash. If you truly need that protection, like I do cause I park on the street and I'm not perfect, get a tire designed to do it. The cost difference is nothing.
the gap is for expansion when it heats up, there is a label with the brand name that goes over it and it's a rubber hammer, if your wheel cant take that it already had cracks.. its suppose to handle forces much stronger than that only issue is not taking the wheel off the car, this might misalign the wheel
@@Soesoesoe112the wheel should have zero alignment issues, it gets really rusty where I live so techs use rubber mallet sledgehammers to break the wheels off of the hubs with all the rust connecting the two. Never has there been an issue with alignment.
I've got 20" wheels and let me tell you that rubber bullshit ain't gonna protect anything. Especially since pretty much all tyres for the big wheels have inbuilt trim for "protection"(my ass) already. It's like wearing a carton box on your chest for the combat mission. On a serious note though, the best tips to protect low profile wheels: 1. Never let your girl drive your car(mine butchered my alloys 10 days after I bought my car, my mistake learned) 2. Always park in reverse preferably with side mirror(s) angled so you can see the floor and curbs in tricky situations. 3. Have a Terminator vision or a schizophrenic paranoia for any mf curb out there on the planet. But yeah, they do look amazing on some cars and it's not tacky or overkill, it's worth it.
Tell ur wife if she hits the rims shes paying for it. Alot of men let women side with bs like this. My girl aint even allowed to drive my car. Fuck that for a laugh
@@thesaintlcfryeah if you want these on there for cosmetic reasons, fine...pay the piper. But if you're using then as "protectors", learn how to drive...or do what they did in the fifties and get curb feelers...that'll look about as good on your Benz as curb rash
Я просто представляю диалог после процедуры, между владельцем и мастером. -сколько это будет стоить? - ну вообще, постучать по колесу стоит $10, но так как ты отдал за это корыто $200к, то для тебя это будет стоит $10к😂😂😂😂
This is how it's done. It's a rubber mallet for those who seem highly braindead. If the rubber compound is damaging your alloys, you're already driving on cheese. This car is exactly that. Also, water will soon sit behind that and corrode the alloy in a matter of months. They're awful to look at, and 9/10 cause a worse issue.
Personally I just don’t curb my tires. I take turns properly instead of cutting sharp because I have this crazy new thing called situational awareness 🤣
Michelin: "Thorough validation shows that the tyre sidewall stiffness stayed the same through lifetime. Cornering stiffness and comfort stayed consistent. We hereby release this tyre. May it be properly installed and serve drivers." Drivers:
Please do not put these on your rims if you value them. These plastic "protectors" end up holding in fine dust and grit. With the forces of even normal driving, it will cause movement from the tire flexing into it. It will be basically like sanding the finish on your rims. Also, using the rubber mallet like in this video will not cause any damage.
I will add reason for avoiding that shit on wheels also those tires already have wheel protectors, he just got wrong size tires, should be wider. also these plastic protectors will make it pain in the ass to balance wheel, cause it will slip no matter what, and in weeks or month you'll end up with shitty balanced wheels.
I swear I have never once curbed my rims not once since 1994... I've been banned from driving several times for totting up , dangerous driving, speeding in a 30 speeding in a 60 speeding in a 70 banned for using a car as a weapon, driving without insurance then driving whilst disqualified but not once have I curbed my rims ...
