Ah the grand Russians! Seems like Rimsky Korsakov was usually in Tchaikovsky’s shadow, but in this instance he produced one of music’s great compositions. Despite this beautiful performance, I personally prefer Maestro Valery Gergiev’s more energetic and slightly faster approach in at least one version that’s also posted here on RU-vid. That said, your salute to the orchestra members attire should not be cast askance. In these visual performances the appearance of the performers seems as wonderful as the music they produce. Every member is immaculately dressed and groomed to near perfection. What a wonderful tribute to the composer, conductor, audience and even to their own talents. Seems like fine musicians and professional golfers are the only humans remaining who exhibit such class.
