We’ve only had the cameras up and running for a short time. ru-vid.comUgkxOXxsTZ3ptV_Pk0fFl8bNZvVqeoqBQFwe So far we love them! I got the outdoor mounting kit for them and they were easy to install. Once you download the app, it walks you through the very easy set up. The clarity, and range is awesome. I am thinking seriously about adding another camera or two to my 3 camera system. The price is lower than a lot of comparable systems.
I agree with your position! My cameras, my property, my data! I do not trust big companies; they all have agendas and will not hesitate to act in their best interest. I just made my first Eufy purchase and can't wait to get them delivered and installed.
Yesterday I replaced my Ring Floodlight cam with a Eufy Floodlight cam. That was the final step in transitioning from a "Ring / Blink" home to an all Eufy home (I had already replaced my doorbell and 2 other outdoor security cameras). I love the local storage for privacy and avoiding monthly fees. I also like that the Eufy floodlight cam lets me turn the lights on at a dim level from dusk to dawn and then jump to full brightness when motion is detected. The only 2 minor issues I've found are 1) I prefer the warmer color temp of the Ring floodlights and 2) I wish the Eufy Floodlight cam had the same HDR feature they have in their doorbell. I have contacted Eufy and they said they may add that in a future software update. Overall, I am very happy with all my Eufy products.
@@IYG-x7c I only use Apple's HomePods and/or my iPhone to control my smart home devices so I don't know for sure if it would work with Google Home Hub. I am 99% sure I could pull it up with an Amazon Echo Show and I THINK it works with Google Home Hub but I have not tested it. I've been using the Eufy Floodlight cam for about a month now and I absolutely love it.
@@jango71 hi there, I just re-read my post twice and I did not mention HomePods or HomeKit at all. Some Eufy products do integrate with Apple’s HomeKit Secure Video but the flood light does not.
I just purchased a Lorex 1080p Wi-Fi Dual Floodlight Camera, and two things that drew me to it, as opposed to other options, is that it built like a tank - all metal, and it comes with a 32 GB microSD card, expandable to 256 GB. It also offers all the additional features of the Eufy. Just FYI.
id highly recommend cloud subscription. it's a security system, you want it to store your footage safely, what is the point of a cctv system where the burglar can locate your hub and steal that to destroy the evidence
@@Professional_RU-vid_Commenter Doubt the average burglar will plan out a raid that elaborate. If someone's raiding a home with clear cameras they probably aren't the brightest or influenced by emotions or substances. Even if they did locate the hub and destroy it, as he showed in the original tutorial you can store data in a personal bank. You could send it to the cloud that way.
I'm personally opposed to the subscription services because I value my privacy over many what if situations like that. I also just hate the subscription model of things. I'd rather pay more and pay once than pay less and routinely.
What has stopped me from getting into home automation from the google and Apple type vendors is that I am not willing to give more data to anyone. Not inside the home for sure. Not on my property either. This is a great review for me as I looked at them but wasn't sure about the privacy statements. Thank you.
We had a break-in which motivated me to research home security systems. I went with Ring mostly for the user interface. My biggest complaint is the lack of POE to overcome WiFi jamming with the only option of the Stick Up Elite with no light. I’m pairing one with the floodlight to hope that linking them will set the floodlight on before they get close enough to jam it. The cloud only bothers me if the camera is capturing part of my neighbors property and I like the person detection feature that can only get better over time.
Thanks for the review. The hit and miss RTSP support across their line is disappointing - if all their cameras supported that, I’d jump ship in a heartbeat.
Yeah, I’m not sure why it’s not an across the board feature. They’re already proven they can get it to work with their tech, so hopefully they’ll add it to all of them. They have said their planning on adding integrations to their hub based products with things like their doorbell.
Really good and balanced review. I've got some Eufycams on the way and realised a floodlight would be well positioned above the garage. Love the local storage and the features, clarity...basically I'm starting to become a fan boy too by accident! I'm defo getting one - may wait for black version. You've got a new sub!
Hey Matt, I have a been a huge youtube viewer for years but never really leave comments, but I have been blown away from the your videos. The presentation, description and detailed information is perfect. I felt I had to come on here and let you know. I have just subscribed to your channel and I was just on the verge of buying into Ring but now i'm 100% investing in Eufy, thanks to your reviews. I also believe we should have full control over our videos and not left for Ring employies to have access too. Great work.
My top priorities for home automation sound like yours too, e.g. Privacy and lack of subscription. I know that subscription services are a strong business model [razor and razor blade], but I hate them. I was lead to eufy because of those features and your channel because of your eufy reviews. I’m mostly Apple in my technology products mostly because of my wife and simple integration. I’m leaning toward HomeKit for the appearance of privacy. Thanks for your time and video’s.
Appreciate that, Lance. It does sound like we're similar in what we're looking for and what products we like to use (I'm Apple too). Of the big three options on the market (Google, Amazon, and Apple), Apple Homekit really has the strongest privacy first design. I'm using Hubitat as the central brain for a lot of my gear, but I have HomeBridge setup and sharing everything with Apple Homekit. Love being able to control and set up automations through the Home app.
I agree, Eufy need better integration, it’s one reason I’m considering ring. Some new product seem stand alone and you also don’t know the full list of difference between this camera and the other Eufy cameras
Damn, I’ve been watching lotta review but I must say your review is awesome because of your voice is pleasant and indeed your honesty make it worthwhile watching your video review. I love how you say it’s straight up with deep thoughts into your words as if it you are American poet “Robert frost”. Your review is awesome to the fullest power. Also you forgot to mention that this device is military grade if you look up this product Specs.
The privacy issue is not a concern for myself. All of my cameras are external. The RING offers me more product selection. I do wish I had the capability to DVR my videos at home, but it is not that important to me. More of a desire than a need. I just wish there was better integration between Ring and my alarm system. Unlike yourself I like the capability of sharing with law enforcement. Thanks for the video it was informative.
As a police officer for 32 years now, I can say that Ring cameras have helped us break a lot of burglary cases. In one case, we were able to follow the subject allnthebway down the block to his getaway car, and a Ring flood camera was able to catch the license plate. The tracking footage was obtained from 4 to 5 Ring camera owners. We obtained the footage from Ring without having to get the residents involved, and consequently, they didn't have to appear in court. With Eufy Cam, I would have to ask the owners for the footage, and they would have to appear in court .
Recently discovered your channel and wow... what great content. I'm hooked and have become more interested in home tech stuff than I thought I ever would be. Heck, I even think I can attack some of these gizmos and gadgets now. Thanks. Keep 'em coming.
Hey Matt - thanks for the excellent review. One area you briefly touch on which has been a major reason I'm shopping for a new camera system, is Ring's hard cap on view length of 30-seconds. I've got Ring cameras around the house right now, and there is no way to extend them past a 30-second recording window from when they first detect motion. I've got a larger yard that generally takes more than 30 seconds to traverse, so by the time a delivery person (or trespasser) gets to the door, the Ring camera has stopped recording. Ideally I'd want a video recording system that would just continuously record so long as there's motion, and not arbitrarily cut off, or at least have this configurable. Have you found a difference on this when testing Eufy vs Arlo? It's not a part of the feature set that's discussed on virtually any review, but in my use case it's a frustrating dealbreaker for Ring.
Thank you. I am currently looking to buy a floodlight camera. I was leaning towards the Eufy camera. Since I worked in the IT world, I am not too fond of storing data in the cloud because too many people will have access to the data. After watching your video, I will be buying a Eufy floodlight camera. PS: for your no BS video, I have subscribed to your channel; I hope others will do the same.
Matt, one of the best review videos ever seen. I'm an old techie (back from the H.323 days, before SIP). Not familiar with RTSP and what benefits it offers. Would also love if someone could do a comparison video of RING vs. COVE security systems. Rumor has it that they will have outdoor video cams next year.
I like the idea as well of local storage and control. However, with this device I have to say the lack of “network” storage is a turn off for me. Built in storage won’t protect me from someone ripping the unit off the mount unfortunately. I understand that there is a balance between features, power saving, price, etc and I don’t know a lot about cameras (yet - but the wife wants me to put these next on the list), but there must be cameras that have a ‘hub’ to control the smarts plus storage. This way it can be placed inside the home to add more protection to thrift? Love ya vids 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks, Steve! And I get the hesitation of having the data stored directly in the device. I think it's probably an edge case that someone steals a floodlight off your home (mine's too high to get without a ladder). I'd LOVE for the eufy Floodlight and Doorbell to store or backup to the eufyCam hub. They have said they're working on integrations like that, so hopefully it's coming soon.
Ive had the ring flood cam for going 2-3 yearsI believe. Its done me well tbh but I even so and though ive been looking into expanding the cameras, I haven't invested in them anymore since their promises for HomeKit integration have not materialised for years hence I, like many others begrudge to give them more money.
That’s something that has become part of my buying decision rules: only buy based on what it does now and not what’s promised. It’s part of the reason I keep dinging Eufy for the lack of IFTTT and other integrations. If those are important to you, I’d recommend waiting on buying any product until it’s there and working.
I am buying it but man we need to speak loud and ofter to Eufy so they can add network storage support at the protocol level. Bought the front camera, now buying the flood lights. Thanks to you. 😊
Thanks for watching! I hope eufy is taking the critique/complaints they hear about the lack of integrations and network storage support to heart. I’m not alone on banging that drum, so I’m hoping they’ll prioritize some changes around that.
I have to ask how is it holding up? I was ready to pull the trigger on buying one after this review but after reading all the reviews on their own website my wife and I are now skeptical.. what are your thoughts?
If it works with a Google Home Hub, would it work with a Google TV? I'm able to pull up my nest cams on those as well. It would be a nice integration if available.
Hi Matt! Im currently using the ring security system for my house and was thinking of using that in tandem with the Eufy doorbell and floodlight instead of the Ring versions due to the quality. Would you recommend that or suggest I stick within the ring ecosystem? As always, thank you so much in advance!
I have the Eufy floodlight and the battery doorbell...I over-all like them alot; however, with that said, connecting the floodlight to the wi-fi was a challenge to say the least. I used a tech support, that I wound up bewildering, cause he could not get the connection between my wi-fi, smartphone (Samsung), and the floodlight to connect. After an estimated 2 hours and the tech support getting an "expert" who faired no better... between him and I--I figure part of the configuration... and he, the other. We both learned something and Eufy learned their setup quick-start leaves a lot to be desired. Once up, their product is working well--but their set-up... frustrating!
Thank you for the Monty Python! I need to upgrade a couple of floodlights and this may fit the bill. Do you think they will build Apple home kit integration into these cameras in the future? My only cam right now is an old dropcam taken over by google nest and I do pay for cloud storage. Have not made the leap into storing the video locally yet. I need to learn how to do that frankly. I’ll go back to your smart home videos and check out your recommendations. Thanks so much for the reviews! They really do help! Even poor environmental engineers trying to stay moderately current in computer / electronics tech! Cheers!
Ha! I was hoping someone out there would get a kick out of that reference. I’m not sure if this will support Apple Homekit at some point. I know eufy has Apple Homekit products on the way, but so far they haven’t retroactively added that support to existing products. They may (I hope they do).
Nicely Done! Thanks Matt. What happens if your light is on a regular light switch? does it lose settings if the switch is turned off? Also I had a question on your experience with the Eufy cams, have the sealed batteries but from what I have read they only last for 2 or 3 years before they stop charging. A battery can only take so many cycles of charging and a sealed battery and a cam at that cost, hmmmm I am hesitating pulling the trigger picking one up
I actually have my eufy Floodlight in that exact situation. If you accidentally (or purposely) flip that switch, the camera won’t lose its settings. When it turns back on it’ll connect back to the Wifi and operate like you left it. As for the battery situation on the EufyCam, I get the concern, but I’m personally not worried about it. A typical lithium ion can handle 500 to 1000 charging cycles over its useful lifespan. This one you’ll be charging once (maybe twice) per year. My old Arlo Pro had user replaceable batteries that I never touched in almost five years ... and they still are working just fine.
Sorry, but I just don't see the privacy issue with the Ring cameras, but all of mine look out over public spaces, and that seems to be the norm for most people I know with cameras like this. If you had a fenced-off back yard where a family member sun-bathed I could see your concern, but my gut feel is that's the exception. Also, if you flip it around, Google is violating the (non-existent) privacy of your driveway far more with Street View looking down it at your house than Ring could ever do. Great channel though, and I love the Tesla info. Between you and EngExpl I think I'll be pulling the trigger on a Model 3 Performance early next year.
Thanks for the comment! Just to be clear on the privacy issue ... it's not about what's getting recorded, but how the company handles your data and who has access to it. Amazon has had some serious stumbles in that regard this year. I have another video with more details on what's gone down with them, but it crossed a line for me. But that said, I know a lot of folks, like yourself, that aren't bothered by it. And if that's the case, then stick with Ring for sure ... the hardware they make is great. Amazon is also making improvements to how they're handling privacy, so hopefully in time they'll win those of us back that left. And that's awesome about the P3D next year! You're going to love that car ... it's like a rocket on wheels.
eufy would also be best served to offer some camo skins for their cameras, just like Reolink, Blink, Arlo, & others. Obviously, this floodlight isn't the best choice for a camouflage skin, but you get the idea.
Excellent video, the lack of support for sending the video to a NAS is a bit of a bummer... I currently use a Reolink C1 Pro for video recording, which does support sends the data to a NAS but I find it a bit harder to set up for scenes... Incidentally, what do you use to detect that the house is unoccupied or occupied to trigger scenes? And is it capable of working with both iOS and Android devices?
As of right now, the cameras aren’t tied into my smart home setup, so I’m only able to use the built in scheduling functionality. Eufy has said they’re working on geofencing, which should be out this year ... but until they get something like IFTTT integrated, we’re stuck with whatever is built into their app. My smart home in general though is built on top of Hubitat right now. I’m using that to track our smart phones as presence sensors to trigger home and away modes for scenes with everything that’s integrated.
Privacy concerns are my main interest in Eufy. One easy question, that I did not see when I scanned the comments, if I replace my existing floodlights with a Eufy floodlight camera will the inside switches still work to manually turn the floodlight on/off?
Really nice overview. With the 2020 version of Eufy, is there now a way to download the video recording as say an .mp4 file? Or another hack - possible to 'screen record' the playback of the video recording on your phone just so it's captured in a shareable file format?
Pretty cool!!! I have been looking at buying this and their door bell and maybe a camera or 2!! There's a combo of all 3 but I want the door bell to be wireless!
Matt, with the app for floodlight control, do you have the ability to program the flood lights to stay on for a dusk to dawn (astronomical) time set, or is it strictly a specific hour/minute entry only? Also, are you able to program the time in which the lights dim? For example, on at dusk (or specific hour/minute) at full lumens, then reduce to 50% at 10pm, then off at dawn (or specific hour/minute)...
Can the Eufy be mounted under and eave? I have a Ring mounted under an eave with no problems. And like you, I like local storage. I use my Ring floodlight and doorbell as time markers to look at my hardwired system, but would rather get away from the subscription costs and privacy issues.
Another solid video! Are you using some type of display to project your script in front of the camera? If so I’d be interested to see a video on your setup, if it isn’t already on the channel.
I am going back and forth between the too. I heard some negative things in regards to EUFY detecting motion and pushing notifications. Have you experienced anything like this?
You are starting me to rethink my ring and look into eufy. I have 2 ring doorbells 1 & 2 and did buy flood cam but haven't installed yet, to cold. Might return to costco and buy this but does it need extender. I'm only interested in cam outside not inside. Let us know about app updates, i hated my ring doorbell until it got second update. Does this have recording like doorbell, you say in home recording storage how?
The one thing I do not like with the eufy floodlight is that you can't set the motion zone to trigger the light, you can only change the motion zone for triggering recording.
I installed it today. It did not sync to my WiFi. It wanted the eufy WiFi connection. Yes I connected it to the old floodlight wiring. My light is not high and I have a mesh system which gives decent outdoor coverage.
Matt, thanks for the very informative video. I want to replace my regular floodlights on my soffitts with Eufy's. Will they work at that angle? Thanks in advance for your help!
Well, it looks like I get disappointed at 8:45. This doesn't connect with iPhone correct? I do have an amazon fire tablet. Would it work with that? It checked all the other boxes (though I would want a eufy that doesn't have the spots. So, does any eufy work with iPhone?
I got the Eufy doorbell based on the other video, and it’s almost perfect. I should say this on the other video, but it’s too easy to steal, so I printed out an enclosure to secure it better.
Weighing through all options from smart home cameras and like you I like what Eufy offer, but I feel in trying to keep costs down and the fact they don't really get revenue from cloud based storage they are missing out on some extra features that would set them apart I would be willing to pay extra to extra instead of the same or less to not quite get what I want.
So they sent you a Eufy floodlight , Knowing your a RU-vidr, who has influence I may add. Yet they didn't expect you to make a Video 🤔 That sounds fishy, but I'll still trust your judgement 🤗
I am wondering if there is any information on eufy Floodlight Camera temperature tolerances? We found the Reolink product does not work well in our climate, in fact it just quit at -30c.
Cannot find answer anywhere. Does light is also controlled by motion, or it is always on and ON/OFF can be controlled only from the app? Another question. It is not battery operated, meaning that I have to flip the switch ON for the flood light for good. Minot thing, but if light is not controlled by motion sensing, it is useless.
Not at the moment. Hubitat doesn't have built in support for cameras at all yet, but since the eufyCam E has RTSP support, it seems like it could be done in theory.
Sounds awesome. At the moment we have a dvr setup system. I’d like to find a wireless system that only requires Bluetooth not sure if such a system exists without Wifi required. Where I live can’t get Wifi and I tried satellite but it’s too expensive and frankly satellite sucks.
I don't know if this has been answered but can this floodlight be placed under the eaves and still function well. The ring floodlight is limited in its field of view when placed in such manner.
It is so frustrating that Eufy refuses to add integration with anything! I have been wanting some of their products for a long time but I will not purchase any until I can integrate them into my smart home.
how did you get the eufy to sit flush with your vinyl block. I have a similar setup with a built in junction box and the eufy doesnt sit flush because there is no recess for the bracket and screw tops?
Great stuff, glad I found your channel. Privacy is a deal-breaker issue for me, so I'm always interested to learn of good non-data harvesting, no subscription products. Thanks and subscribed!
Hey Matt, nice video once again, to bad it was of no use for me right now, since i live in a apartment building with a shared front door. Still love watching your video's they are great.
Matt Ferrell is one of the best content creators for smart home tech. I actually created my own channel Wright Near Home for more videos on smart home technology.
Wait, are you telling me the Eufy items are not synced, as in a eufycam security camera, a eufycam doorbell, and a eufycam floodlight camera aren't really on the same page on an eufycam app? And I can't keep the footage from all three types on the SD card in the hub? Or is it that they are all there in the app, but I just can't get the local backup? Confusing stuff.
do you which one would be more suited to going down the narrow side of a house, so you would need to turn the camara hard left (does it do that), also one light would be hard left, the other hard right... I wont want to direct the light forward and the movement would come from the left of the camera
RTSP/NAS not available is a bummer , as long as it connects with Google Home enabling smart home integration not a biggie for them but not sure why they left NAS/homebase integration out :(
Thanks! I use a lot of Anker gear like chargers, cables, etc. Have yet to use an Anker product I don't like. I haven't ventured that far into the eufy line of products (other than a eufy Scale). I haven't tried their robot vacuums yet, but might at some point down the road.
Undecided with Matt Ferrell Thanks. I have used them similarly but haven’t invested in any of the more costly products like vacuum or cameras. Considering the flood lights and other cameras now for coverage where I don’t have Nest.
It's decent, but could be better. You can dial in the sensitivity on the motion detection, but it's not as good as systems with machine learning/face detection. Their doorbell and EufyCam 2 cameras can do that and are better at cutting back on false positives.
My sister gave me a ring spotlight and I like it's camera but I miss the bright white light that my motion sensor light had. The ring has this warm yellow light that I feel isnt quite bright enough.
