I designed and built a ring roller 6 or 7 years ago thinking it would be a nice tool to have in the shop, but never finished the project because of how expensive it was going to be to have dies machined for it. When I got my CNC plasma cutting table recently, I started thinking about cutting out my own dies, which would save a lot of money and save the ring roller project. I needed something rolled for another project I'm fabricating on our farm, which was just the motivation I needed to jump in and finish up this project.

You should put a heavy spring under the jack so that you can get more rolls out of each setting on the roller. A very heavy spring. will still give you pressure, but will take up the movement as your bends progress.

Dude! The rabbit hole of RU-vid suggested videos brought me here. Well done on that ring roller! I have a buddy that has a fancy ass professional powered style rollers we tried once to roll some material on. We could never get it to roll a straight ring. Ended up with spiral pieces as you described. We checked all the dies for square to each other more than a few times each and they were always dead nuts. That soured my taste for ring rollers as being overly complicated. In fact, when I first saw your design, I figured there might be too much slop in the cage the upper roller rides on. But you sir proved me wrong. Keep it up!

Ganging up a bunch of 1/4" plates cut on the plasma has got to be WAAAY cheaper and faster than turning and milling them. That was a great solution. I work in a combined machine/welding shop and have been wanting to undertake a ring roller build for awhile now

When setting up for rolling square tube, it might help to have a slightly larger-diameter die piece as the centre layer of the upper die. This indents the concave surface of the rolled piece.

Welcome back!!..a little tip when rolling. ..3.141or pie (no proper symbol for it) multlpy by the diameter will give your material length and then give a little more for the distance between your middle roll and the centre roll on both sides

@maxmaxmaxmaxmaxmaxmaxmaxmax1 5 лет назад
You can still drive that top wheel. Keeping it simple, use a plate with a sprocket on either end. Make it attached to the frame that the bottle jack is attached to. As the upper frame moves up and down, the gears will always stay the same distance apart and you will not require a tensioner.

Great video. If you want to bend tube use the same multiple plate approach and weld them into an approximate curve. Then ask a machine shop to turn them on their lathe. The cost in making tube rolling dies is in the humongous size of the starting billet and the ages spent turning it down. You'd have all this done.
@marcodrijfhout1976

Hi there! Really enjoy your videos! I do cnc plasma cutting every day, for the past 5 years now. Try cleaning dross with a "knotted cup brush" or "Twisted wire cup brush" with your baby grinder - you will not look back! With abrasive discs, you loose a lot of time because the abrasive discs grind the dross down (and a little bit of your parts as well), while the twisted cup brush brakes the dross of effortlessly! Do use the cheapest grinder, because those cup brushes can not be balanced! Here in South Africa, quality baby grinders cost about R1500 to R2500. I use the grinder about 5 to 7 hours per day with the twisted wire cup brush. Quality grinders last about 3 weeks @ 5-7 hours every day, while the cheap grinder i buy for R200 lasts for 2 weeks! Hope this might be helpful.
