Great video, I was concerned about feeding the thick cable through a wall. Disconnecting it from the base was a simple solution that most people just over look
I had the same question and not sure if I would have thought of that. Another solution is to cut off the male electrical plug and replace. Or cut the electrical wire and splice. This plug/splice is not as exposed to the weather. The silicon on wire into the base was very thick/stiff and is exposed in the weather. Messing with that may allow moisture into the base and those electrical connections.
This was helpful!! I was a bit hesitant with drilling the hole but im just going through a wood. I should be ok. Thank you sir for posting this helpful video 👍🏼
This is what I’m looking for. Thanks for sharing your great idea. I was gonna install the camera to our new house but I was hesitant to cut the cord or make a bigger hole to fit the cord end... and then I saw this.. now I’m fan of yours haha God bless you brother!
Great Video! I wish all videos were this good. I have some Qs. 1. I plan on drilling from the outside of the house and not the inside. Any concerns? 2. What kind of caulk do you use? 3. What kind of drill do I need for this? 4. Do I drill into the brick or mortar? Does it matter? 5. Not a question but please use a N95 mask when doing this. Drilling into brick is hazardous is what I read. Thanks again for this video.
I was looking for this type of solution to install my Ring camera outside, on top of my garage door. This is a great video that resolved my problem and alleviated all my concerns. KUDOS! Excellent job showing us to DIY!
Not gonna lie......this is an AWESOME video on installation and adjusting the motion zones. Now I have Ring floodlight cam in the backyard, spotlight cam on the front porch. Good start! Now I just need some drones to patrol the area 😁😁😁😁
Hi watched your video after buying a Ring wired spotlight. Very informative and thorough. I successfully installed my spotlight following your video. Excellent..
Great video, thank you. Shame the inventor of the ring camera didn’t think about the wire going through the wall and make the plug with an adapter! I have the solar powered one on the front of the house and will now install a wired version down the side. Thanks. 👍
Yeah I wonder what their design thinking was behind that I'm not too sure. Even if someone has a plug on the outside most of the people I've talked to or received comments about the plug is very close to where they are installing the spotlight so now there is so much left over cable that is hanging or they have to cut some of the wire off. Thanks so much for watching!
Thank you, excellent job.i was going to purchase the battery camera, thanks to you I will be returning to and purchase the wired camera. Thank you again.
It was a long shot that someone would be looking for the same thing and I didn't think anyone would be doing what I did. I guess some people have! Thanks so much for watching!
Thank you so much for this very well put together video. I have the same issue and was wondering how to install the camera without a plug outside. Very helpful, thank you again.
Thank you Jeff. Your video is the first one I have seen showing that this specific camera can indeed be installed without cutting the wire and splicing it back together after it has been run through the hole. I really appreciate the way you present the entire process. Thank you sir.
Thanks! Yes most people want something faster so they cut the plug off but if you are ever changing the unit or selling the old unit no one wants a cut plug for sure. I appreciate the support!
@@JeffLepard hi @jeff so it is possible to shorten the wire from the same end you show in the video? my plug is only 4' from the camera and i have about 15' of extra cable that i don't really want hanging around.
Yeah that's true when you see stuff like that it makes you think how sometimes we forget about thieves and leave doors open, unlocked not worried about things next thing you know your stuff is gone!
Thank you for this great video. I am getting my camera tomorrow and it's a great feeling having the knowledge of how getting it done the proper way. Muchas gracias.
Thanks for making this install video as I have to drill and run the wires the same way you did. Now I just have to buy an expensive masonry bit that I'm only going to use once ever
Fantastic video! But Think I’ll be cutting off original plug to feed through the wall and replace with a new one as it seems from the comments that a lot of tiny screws get dropped and it’s a bit fiddly ….. wish me luck 🍀
Debating on getting 2-4 cameras. I need one for the front and back yard. Front of house faces north, south side gets back sun exposure. However, I live in MI and it gets -30F in the winter and no sun. I have outlets outside. Suggestions on a brand or brands that would work for my concerns. No lag between movements, leaves blowing creating false alerts, sunlight making the camera unable to see. I'd prefer not drilling holes through my home or walls but ideally no batteries to change outside etc.
Great video!! very EZ to follow, just ordered my Spotlight Cam. I started with a Ring wired doorbell and really liked the motion aspect of anyone approaching my front porch..started looking farther into Ring products and found this light and cam all activated with motion...with your info video ,I will install this bad boy at my back door!!! No body is going to sneak up on me!!Thanks Tc from Nevada PS does anyone know if during daylight and motion activates the cam, do the lights come on to..
Yes that would make things so much easier! I thought originally I was going to be the only one with this issue when I made the video but it turns out a few people have commented they did the same thing.
Lol i was thinking of drilling a 1 inch hole, good thing i stumble on your vid. You could have tucked that wire a little bit closer to the camera though.
Great video! Thank you so much. I can't believe, that ring is not able to build their cameras that there is a possibility to hide the cable complete (going out at the backside of the holder). I can't believe. Everybody can cut the cable, because is it full visible. Just my personal opinion. Greetings from Germany. Christian
That was interesting. I already have a mains light , above the door that I want watched. I intend to remove my very old light and replace it with that camera model. Can the cord be cut and stripped to shorten that long lead ? What is the steepest angle of tilt that the camera allows. Was yours set at the steepest angle ..
fix that paint job on the garage my dude, and also you should have drilled the hole right under the camera so wire would be hidden instead of off to the side like you did. Doesnt look pleasing to the eye
Have you any tips/ideas about fitting the ring stick up cam wired outdoors please? Same scenario as this. On a garage where the power is inside. Thanks 🙏🏽
I need someone to answer this question: What’s stopping you from drilling a hole in that mounting plate and on the back portion of the camera where it slides onto the plate in order to run the wires directly into it from there? This would eliminate the wire being seek from the outside. I’m looking to install this soon and was thinking I was going to do it the way I mentioned. Looking forward to hearing thoughts, thanks!
Likely water ingress. He should really put silicone sealer around the port where the power cord exits too and on either side of the garage wall hole. I’m tempted to do this but my worry is it’s not up to NEC and should home catch fire, insurance may void coverage if this was found to be point of ignition inside the wall (not so much here with brick but if it’s a wood wall with drywall, maybe more of a concern)
Thank you so much for making this video. I am planning to do this soon. I didn't catch if you mentioned the cable length? The nearest plug to my install point is a little ways off and I am wondering if it will be long enough. Thanks again!
Thanks so much for watching. I don't think I did mention the length but I know that cord was very long! The cord was at least 20-25'. Hopefully that will do for you otherwise you could just use an extension cord.
Going does this as to not void the warranty as I would do if I cut off the moulded plug. What size masonry drill be do you need for the cable to pass through the wall?
Hi Jeff, Upon removing the interior screws from the black and white wires, I dropped and lost one of those tiny black screws, any idea where I can get a replacement ??
I have an outlet outside my house right near the where the camera will go. What do i do with all the extra cable ? Can i cut it and splice a new end to it?
Easier just to cut the plug off then go to HD and buy a plug...This way you don't worry about the silicone being in the right place or deal with those tiny wires when you're 70 years young...😄
As a professional installer, we were trained to NEVER drill from the inside out on a brick exterior as it can push a brick out in some homes. And please do not forget to double check both sides of the wall.
That is true you can also pop the front facing off the brick. In this case I wanted to make sure it was going exactly where we wanted it. Thanks for the info and support!
Depends on how much light u want. We have the flood light above our garage and gives off alot of light which we wanted. We have the spotlight in backyard which does give off decent amount of light but not like the floodlight
