PS- I just wish it was not so hideous. You'd think that RING could have come up with something more attractive (I ordered a "skin" but it's not the quality I had hoped for.)

Glad to help. If you don't have doorbell wiring to use for charging purposes, you would just need to remove the battery and charge it with a typical phone charger. They also have a solar-charging kit, but that's going to be of limited use to a lot of people. I agree that the design could look better, the Pro that I tested last year looks much sleeker but doesn't have the included battery, so it's much more complicated to install.

You need to set up the software. It will not ring until you complete everything.

I think adding 5GHz is a nice feature, especially for users with shorter-distances between the router and doorbell (5GHz is faster but shorter range), but it would only help in terms of quality of the video, not initial video launch, as that has other bottlenecks. In terms of detecting motion again after the first alert, that probably comes down to software settings, which are in fact adjustable (more alerts, standard alerts, fewer alerts). That is something you probably could have tried, but since you're back on the Doorbell Pro, no need to! If you already put the time into installing the Pro, the Doorbell 3 probably wasn't really worth it anyway. The Pro is much nicer looking.

I would use the wired one if you already have a doorbell, because then you don't need to disassemble it monthly to take the battery out for charging. Yes, those two wires connected to your old doorbell go to the transformer, and that will provide the power and also operate the indoor chime. You must complete the software setup to calibrate the RIng to the hardwired chime. It will not make sound upon initial connection.

Yes, you must use the battery. The current from the transformer isn't nearly enough to power the camera. It's just used to slow-charge the battery, which is what actually powers the camera.

Yes, the chime inside will work, but you must set up the software completely, it doesn't work when you just connect the wires, it has to sync with your home's chime system electronically. And yes, you need the subscription, which is $3/month, or you won't get recordings. You'll be able to see people live, but that doesn't help with stolen packages. The doorbell uses very low voltage, you would ideally shut off power, but if you can't find the right circuit, it's not a big deal. You really can't hurt yourself with that voltage, it's not that different from touching both terminals of a 9V battery.

@@TheTechBuyersGuru thanks for the reply, i bought last week the Ring 3 video doorbell, the day after i had to buy a RingChimePro to extend the wifi signal even if the modem/router wasn't that far but probably the door was blocking most of the signal, it was always on very low connection.i'm on the 4th floor in a condo-apt and on the motion zone i had to turn off the lower part because if a car was passing by in the parking lot i was having motion alert.i am still playing with the settings, so far i am happy, even if sometimes i don't have alerts right away when someone arrives from left or right but when is already in front of the door, today on a couple of occasions when i watched recorded videos motions it wasn't giving me audio for the first 15 seconds, weird, maybe is the phone's app, i need to keep an eye on that.The first day when i had very low connection the battery went from 100% to 90%, even if it is wired to the old ring wires, when i installed the chime pro it went back to 100% and it is still there, hope it stays like that charging the battery.So far i am really happy, i understand there are pros and cons with any products, don't know if maybe would have been better to invest an extra 20$ and with 200$ get the Ring 3 Plus with the four seconds preview or even the Nest Hello.what do u think about it?

I thought you got videos and that the subscription was only to extend the storage life of the videos. Also that you would be connected to the neighborhood community. Regardless I think the yearly service is worth it. Its cheap enough to pay for the year instead of a monthly fee.

Finish software setup. That's required for it to ring.

The outdoor doorbell button is removed, and the wires are then connected to the new Ring outdoor device. The indoor chime should remain in place.

Good question! I have always used the wedges when installing Ring doorbells, because they can be helpful in a lot of situations. But if you don't need them, you may need to try pushing the wires back into the wall.

I had that issue too. Try setting it up near your router using battery power, and just try it a bunch of times. The app kept timing out when I tried it but eventually connected.

I been trying i am frustrated there has to be something easier to fix the app issue

You can try using a ring chime pro it’s a WiFi extender for ring devices

This will depend on how much motion it captures and the temperature outside. In very cold weather, the battery will not last as long, and with lots of motion in front of the camera, it will deplete faster as well. The software allows for zones to be chosen, so only motion in critical areas is captured.

It simply charges via a typical micro USB connection. It does not come with a charger, but comes with the cable to use with a phone charger, to plug into your PC, to plug into a wall USB jack, etc.

You can install it without a wired doorbell, but if you want to hear it ring indoors, you need to buy the Ring Chime: amzn.to/34IUrOM Also, you will need to regularly take the battery out to charge. I estimate it will only last 1-3 months depending on how much motion it captures outside your door.

You need to set up the software. Unless you complete the software setup, it will not ring your chime. It has to sync with the existing chime in the home, it is not set from the factory. I had the same experience and wondered what was happening, then I realized I hadn't finished all the steps in setup.

Make sure you have the latest app, make sure you have WiFi and Location Services on (especially if you have an Android phone), and make sure the doorbell has power (the lights are coming on). You can do all this with the doorbell in your hand using just the battery if that's easier than standing at the door.

Hey Ms Lewis. My wife and I had the same issue one night a few weeks ago. When our app was updated. We have 7 ring devices. We love them. But we were getting the same error message as well. If you are having the issue still. You can disconnect your phone from the wifi you are on and try to open the app using mobile data. Once you get the app open you can turn back on the wifi. We have no idea why this was happening, but this worked for us. After a few days, we didn't have to do that any longer. I guess ring fixed the issue in our area. Like I said. We love the cameras. But we were extremely disappointed. To the point of switching systems. The amount of money we have invested in ring is what kept me from making a hasty decision. (RING DOORBELL 3)-( 4 FLOODLIGHT CAMERAS)-(2 STICK UP CAMS). And the security system.

Yes, that's what keeps the whole system running. The battery is slow-charged all the time, and provides the necessary power when recording, which would be far too much power draw for the doorbell transformer.

My battery has been at 100% since I installed it. It is continuously charged by the low-voltage connection. If you took it out to charge it, the doorbell would not function.

The wire does two things: connects to your indoor chime (if you have one) and charges the battery. You can use it wirelessly but you will need to take the battery out regularly to charge it, and you will need an indoor chime if you want to hear it ring inside. Yes. The current provided by the doorbell is insufficient to run the camera. The battery charges constantly and is utilized whenever the doorbell actually has to do anything that requires power.

Nowhere during the video did I say that at all. If someone presses the doorbell, you'll get a notification on your phone.

Depends on activity. I have a neighbor who constantly goes outside to make phone calls and she is always walking in front of my door. She must have ADHD or something its several times a day. Sometimes people drive up and they exchange stuff in the middle of the street right in front of my house. Sick of her running down my ring battery and loading up my video file storage. I live on a dead end street so some normal activity but she takes the cake. Big loud mouth too. Hope she moves out soon.

This doorbell works with existing wiring. If you don't have any wiring at all, you have to run it on battery alone.

The wedge attaches with the screws included in the box. They only screw into wood. If you have concrete/brick, you need to drill it out first.

You don't need to change the battery if you hardwire it to the transformer used for an existing doorbell. If you don't have an existing doorbell, the only option would be to use solar power, but you'd need it to be in direct sunlight. No, that won't work. But if you have a doorbell and wiring already, it's pretty easy to connect.

I agree that the Ring Doorbell 3 continues to have issues with live view. I have found this myself, and it's specific to this product. Other Ring cameras I have do not have the connection problem. I'd go as far as to suggest that the product was released before it was finalized. Hopefully Ring can fix it over the long term via updates.
