Post Beatle break up John: "imagine there's no heaven. It's easy if you try." Paul: "maybe I'm amazed at the way you love me all the time!" George: "my sweet lord. I really wanna see you..." Ringo: "BAAACK OFF BOOGALOO!"
when you hear that slide guitar, you immediately know who it is. Now that is a mark of an influential and great guitar player. While his distinct drumming isn't as apparent in this song as others, Ringo has a very distinct drum sound as well.
@@colinkeane9070 You don't know squat. John recorded Imagine with Ringo,George,Nicky Hopkins, and a few others and Phil Spector produced it.Read this and apologize....en.wikipedia.org/wiki/How_Do_You_Sleep%3F_(John_Lennon_song)
Yes, I would imagine he probably got the most tail out of them all... while the other guys were a little serious and intimidating... Ringo was probably secreted in after parents were asleep... and when the parents busted them... "oh... it's Ringo! Oh... I'm sorry... you two probably want to be alone! Sorry Ringo!"
I'm pretty sure that this was lyrically addressing Paul, who is the Frankenstein in this video. Maybe there was some of what you say in this, but I thought when this was recorded Marc was still in his Heyday... yea?
Ringo is such a free spirit. Everyone else went super serious after the break up, apart from Ringo. My guy basically goes, "begone thot" in 80s language.
Ringo leads the pack in humor from the first press conference in NYC in '64 after they got off the plane for the first time in the U.S. I've stayed the distance with this outstanding performer. Ringo die hard fan. Free spirit he is..every concert since 1965.
This song was inspired by Ringo's friend, Marc Bolan, lead singer of T. Rex, who used to actually say, "Back off boogaloo"!". It even kind of sounds like a T. Rex song.
Peace Frog I had a friend who died about 10 years ago. He also used the Doors' song "Peace Frog" as a handle. Thanks for bringing back the memories. :-)
I love him, I love him, I love him. I always have. The Beatles? Who? Ringo! I named my huge tabby Ringo Starr when I was 15. Ringo is my thing. I don't know why there isn't MORE Ringo, I want more and more and more.
I sure do miss the 70s and 80s. The music today is not even the same. Sometimes I wish I could find a time machine and go back in time. Life was much easier and everyone enjoyed life! Is this your favorite song?
I love seeing Ringo behind the drums singing Back Off Boogaloo. Especially when he has another drummer next to him and they do everything in tandem. Just so much fun.
I think all those music historians fail to remember ,that Ringo changed the way drummers played,, from 63 to ...today. ..from the jazz grip to the match stick hold ...plus HS drumming was always snare drum oriantaited... Brilliant Ringo ..
John: The one mistake you made was in your head Paul: You took your lucky break and broke it in two George: No one around you will carry the blame for you Ringo: bAcK oFf bOoGaLoO
Although, the one thing they should have thanked Paul for, was not involving the Beatles with fucking ALLEN KLEIN... REMEMBER... the Stones wound up surrendering all of their mechanical royalties to him, before 1970!! Imagine how BROKE the Beatles would be without all of THOSE royalties!?! They can thank Paul for that... and I'm going to see that AK's grave is kept damp!
George did an incredible amount of work for other artists too many to name. Backing vocals, electric guitar, slide guitar, producing while usually giving a silly false name. He was in demand by a wide variety of artists and groups, the one that astonished me the most was guitar work and backing vocals on Cheech and chongs basketball jones in 1973.
Watched the Peter Jackson doc three times. Madly in love with this man. He was the fricken best kept secret of the Beatles......we were all watching Paul and John and watching Ringo playing and channeling the drum patterns, watching him playing with 5 year old Heather (Linda McCartney's daughter) and his unbelievably blue pools otherwise known as eyes and his unsinkable spirit -- sorry - this is embarrassing. Nevermind! I love you Ringo.
One of the greatest melodies and storylines in the history of music. Probably inspired Tim Burton big time forever. Pure Musical and Visual Brillance ! All Hail Sir Ringo ! All Hail Sir Ringo ! All Hail Sir Ringo !
Thank you for that unnecessary and well known fact! Perhaps you could tell us all in which year man first landed on the moon just incase there are some people out there that don't know.
Id say Harrison did, these early Ringo singles are essentially Harrison productions themselves. All Things Must Pass, Bangladesh and Living on Material World were all major successes.
This song was inspired by Marc Bolan who Ringo had over for dinner at his house and where Marc kept saying to Ringo " back of boogaloo " just in conversation or if Ringo was fooling about with the other guests or whatever ...and after Marc left that night Ringo had the song in his head and immediately sang the tune into a tape recorder ...and the rest as they say is history .
George Elliott Sorry to contradict you but that was actually Bowie doing a pretty accurate impression of his mate, the late great Marc Bolan. A recording recently turned up of Bowie during the Absolute Beginners era of him singing a section of a song as Marc Bolan, as well as Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waite, Neil Young and Anthony Newley. Always thought this song and his previous single It Don't Come Easy should have done a lot better in the charts.
+Philip Robinson 'woid', as they say---we also caught that imitations clip! it is likely you is right, but...maybe he had Bolan sing it anyway just as an injoke shifting gears would it not have been appropriate and great to have those guys [Bo-Bo] as a duo for all these decades?? maybe add Took for some beats
Sorry to burst your bubble but if this was recorded around the time of Absolute Beginners as thought, Bolan would have been dead around 7 years, he died in a car crash on September the 16th 1977
+Philip Robinson i was agreeing the Bolanesque vox on 'black country rock' as being Bowie imitating Bolan but who knows? -maybe Bolan imitating Bolan uncredited [their being buds then]
"My Sweet Lord" came out in January 1970, "Maybe I'm Amazed" came out in April 1970, "Imagine" came out in October 1971 and "Back off Boogaloo" came out in March 1972. You know, this information is freely available.
It's a bit of a stretch to say Ringo was the greatest drummer ever. But he was the drummer in the greatest band ever and he was the greatest drummer that band could ever have had. Same goes for George Harrison as a guitarist.
No. Good thing he did. I personally wouldn't part with the work he produced then. It also allowed the "individual talents" you mention to flower (John, George and Ringo). And it unmasked Paul's mediocrity :)
Yep, most of the good stuff he did is Beatles material written most often than not with John. As a solo artist, he wrote nothing notable in pop, and produced bad bad classical work! Although I get it that chicks loved him for his good looks rather than for his music.
Stephen King I woke up this morning with "Back Off Boogaloo" in my head. It's been there all day. Horrible. I fear I may have been possessed by a demon.
