i thought it was what you said : a good role playing campaign intro deviced by a dm that is a fan of tolkien ... even durin's wife was acceptable, even enjoyable ... i hope it doesnt go further away from tolkien, specially into progressiveland
I am afraid it will, which is why I do not want to watch the next episode. p.s. I am/was a progressive, but extremists have hijacked the Progressive Movement and transformed it into something that it is not, and made it repulsive, which makes me furious. Sorry for the rant.
I'm not really a Tolkien fan, but this show butchered it. If they had just ceated their own property or even licensed the D&D name, they could tell their own story. Instead they wanted the Lord of the Rings name to draw in people, but dont really want to bother telling any of his stories, just their own. Basically, they have screwed up in every conceivable manner. I got about 20 minutes in before I decided lifes too short. When you have characters using "Ok" in fantasy dialogue repeatedly, you know they don't give a sh*te.
Totally agree. What I hate most is that Hollywood does not even consult or hire fans, and keeps everything incestuously inside their circle. This leads to the destruction of one beloved franchise after another. Thanks the comment. p.s. At least you only wasted 20 minutes of your life. I wasted 2 hours, plus more (for making the video).
@@RPGmodsFan agreed. It is so clearly an attept to use a respected IP to trick the casual fans and is nothing but an attempted cashgrab. Peter Jackson at least respected the material and was rewarded. But when he made the Hobbit, it was clear the studios were making him stretch it out for more cash. The worst thing is, they will hide behind the magical cloak of racism to deflect any legit critisim. It's such a slimey tactic. And the same mistakes will continue to be made in the future. (Im not even a huge fan of LOTR in general. Ive seen all the films once, dont need to see them again. But I feel offended for fantasy fans in general.)
I personally don't care if characters are "race swapped", as long as the story is good. And that is the problem for quite some time, the stories are horrible to mediocre (at best). Just to go off on a tangent, I liked the Japanese movie Thermae Romae. Although it was funny to see Romans portrayed by Japanese Actors, the movie, itself, I think, was still good, with a good story, and I enjoyed watching it. I am also not a Tolkein fan, which I left to say towards the end of the video. However, like you, I have more respect for the property than Amazon has.
@@RPGmodsFan Like you Im more into S&S and REH, and I agree that Jackson making the females more important in TLOR was a good call. For me, the race-swapping is so clearly an attempt to shield themselves from critics. They basically hide behind minorities. And they send the duped actors out to take the brunt of the fans fury. All while the lords of Amazon sit back laughing at us all. Either way, they win.
