Disney basically only has Tom hanks charm but guipetto is like in 25% of the movie... so. It's probably gonna be ok, but no real catch for people to get excited about watching it
I am looking forward to both! Pinocchio was one of my all time favorites growing up, so the Disney+ one holds some serious nostalgia for me, the Del Toro adaptation looks interesting to my adult self, so we shall watch both and see which one hits better!
I think Jay is half-right: The Addams Family _is_ a fish-out-of-water tale, but the secret sauce is that they have no idea they’re a fish out of water.
I think that Then Munsters were more the folks who didn't notice they were different. In the Addams Family, they are simply happy to be who they are. They would never classify themselves as normal.
I'm kinda surprised that Wednesday didn't land with you guys. As you pointed out, fish out of water has been done to death with this franchise, but this series seems to ask the question "what if Wednesday Addams was really in her element?" Prior to this, the only place she fit in was at home with her family. Now she has a whole new environment to explore and expand her story in.
I get where Jay is coming from with the gut reaction to the school, but I agree that the reasoning for telling this version of the story is exactly the thing about the "fish out of water" story being a story that was told before. What I'm hoping for is an examination not simply of Wednesday "in her element," but of the ways in which maybe she's an oddball and an outsider within the spooky community as well. It will serve as another avenue into exploring (and for this new incarnation, establishing) her character. If that is the case, I think this could be very interesting (it may not be the case, it may just be wacky vampire highschool shenanigans, which can be fun, if done well, but is ultimately less interesting).
Agree with Jay as well. The trailer turned me off in a way of feeling like it not meant for me, not my demographic and that’s fine. I like the way the second film from the 90s did it, with Wednesday connecting/ruling the other misfits and outsiders and creating friendships through chaos, mayhem, and mutual enemies.
To me this show is like, so Wednesday can pwn normies all day long, but what if she's amongst her "own kind" for the first time? She might not be as hardcore spooky ooky as she thinks.
On jay's side, The Del Toro Pinocchio looks leagues better then the live action Disney one. You can just feel the love when stop motion is used also it has a clear and concise art style rather then the mesh of styles in the Disney one
You might not a agree but I think Wednesday will be another sleeper hit of the year, Jenna Ortega has been slowly rising on my radar of someone to watch and my god she is def one of my generation’s best rising talents
In my opinion, it will depend on the tone. If the series really has a tone similar to that of Sabrina, if I see him suffering the same fate (Dying after two or three seasons). The best tone for this series in my opinion is A Series of Unfortunate Events... If it manages to have that tone, it could be a hit.
@@JMTgpro Yeah it reminded me of that series, after watching it. Although Wednesday is a big hit rn, I don't think it would only end up with 2-3 seasons.
I think this is the first time ive actually seen you guys irritated with eachother lol. You have played on this style before, but today seemed like someone got up on the wrong side of the bed or maybe you are spending a bit too much time together lol. Anyway, love the content as always. Cheers!
I'm all in on Burton's Wednesday show and Del Toro's Pinocchio. And yeah I'm basing my excitement on the past works of those creators, but honestly the trailers both look awesome.
I am so glad I'm not the only one who noticed the black on the edge of the screen during The Umbrella Academy! It was driving me crazy when I watched season 3 for the first time!
Galadriel is thousands of years old. She's a child of Valinor (Elven Heaven) and was about during the First Age. This show takes place during the Second Age. Lord of the Rings is the end of the Third Age.
I just want to know if the Pleasure Island scene is gonna have kids drinking beer and smoking cigarettes, like the cartoon movie. I have a feeling it’s just gonna be kids eating candy and staying up late😂
My biggest concern for Rings of Power was the music choice for the trailer. To me, it's giving early 2010's anachronistic modern "pop" music blaring over show content that audiences really wants to hear. Hopefully, that doesn't make it into the show itself. It just feels very off brand for LOTR. It's just missing the poetry of the books and Jackson films.
I just had enough of a cold and analyzing look to understand that Jenna Ortega is perfect for the role of Wednesday, not to mention the casting (Catherine-Zeta Jones, Gwindoline Christie) the visual range, the scenery, and maestro Tim Burton himself manages it all, and finally the R Rating judging by the piranha scene!!!
I'll be honest, the piranha scene annoyed me. I expect Wednesday to be smarter than that. 1) Piranhas aren't that aggressive, not even close. 2) They'd be in agony and desperately trying to escape the water somehow, not attack things. And...then they'd all die, pretty fucking quickly, in a chlorinated swimming pool. It would be like you breathing highly acidic fumes. The piranha thing is just a really stupid trope that kinda just needs to die already.
The Second Age events covered by the Rings of Power series are so fucking epic (those familiar with the lore know what I'm talking about) that if the show manages to pull it off, it'll be one of the greatest things ever put on screen. But if they don't manage to pull it off, it'll be one of the most expensive piles of dog shit ever created. Cross your fingers.
Each trailer shows a major variation from Tolkien which has fans worried. I think for the general audience it will probably do well. For the serious fans it will be hated. It's like Wheel of Time or Foundation - to many changes not in the spirit of the originals.
@@DrogoMistweave I'm cautious as well. Peter Jackson's Lord of the Ring trilogy might remain the last true epic of our time and he knew how he wanted it to look and feel. Absolutely knocked it out of the park! The ugly corporate head began to rear its head with The Hobbit, which Jackson initially only wanted to produce, but was forced into the director's chair again after studio execs got into beef with Del Toro. And that ended up being inferior in every way. To this day, I haven't watched any Hobbit movie for a second time, while I watch Lord of the Rings every year at least once. What alienated me about this trailer for Rings of Power: The music choice. Who the hell decides on these moody pop songs instead of a big orchestral score? Howard Shore got an Academy Award for both Fellowship AND Return of the King. As far as I'm concerned his music is as essential to Lord of the Rings as John Williams is to Star Wars.
I just really hated the music they used for the trailer. I'm all for judging a series when it actually comes out, but the choice of this music has me worried.
RE: Pinocchio - my son, soon to be 10, has not seen the original Pinocchio yet. SO He was the perfect test market for which version of the story he found more interesting. Disney + version he said looked cool and fun... ...Until he saw Guillermo Del Toro's version which he said "Oh that looks so much cooler! When does THAT one come out?! I want to watch it right now!" SO. I mean... Netflix won. :D
There are three Pinocchio movies this year. Everyone knows the best Pinocchio is "Pinocchio: A True Story" that already came out earlier this year with Pauly Shore as Pinocchio.
I too noped right out after the donkey but and I too was uncomfortable with the lack of gaming the system. Thank for including that at the end... It magically returned the hot tub chicken noodle soup back into water.
@@joegreene7619 And if they continue getting more passive-aggressive with each other, then eventually something will break and they will be done with each other. Then bye bye channel.
Uhhh yes yes yes. Where do you think people like the Addams would have went to high school. Clearly regular school wouldn't and couldn't ever work. So ofcourse there's a place for the weirdos. Im gonna watch and love this show.
I respect Jay's opinion on the Wednesday spin off. I, personally, am excited for this. I've never watched any Addams Family media so this will be popping that cherry for me but it does look really good
Del Toro's Pinocchio looks incredible...it's so nice to see stop motion being used , the art direction looks amazing. Disney's looks bizarre and unsettling and not in a good way. I also agree with Jay about th Broadway Lion King - its incredible , the aesthetic elevates the whole show in more than just a visual way
Totally agree 💯was just about to say about Del Toros, Pinocchio film, that looks awesome. So it ties back into Jay's point about it being off 🙄 seriously Disney do a live action of the films that make sense, Atlantis and Treasure Planet, they are made to be live action 🤔 hell even do a short TV series on each as live action would be pretty wizard😁😁😁
Love you guys. I'm a Patreon supporter and often do the watch-alongs. But - piece of advice if you want your channel and your Patreon to keep growing - put reaction highlights for all the big shows on RU-vid (yes, this includes HOTD), even if you can't monetize them all. You need to drive traffic to your channel in order to drive traffic to your Patreon. Choosing to skip the big shows because you can't monetize is a major blunder. If you look at the reaction channels that are currently bigger than you guys, there's one thing they have in common - content, content, content. I want you guys to have staying power and this is how you do it.
"When someone accidentally leaves a microphone in a room with a bunch of white dudes, you get a podcast" is one of the funniest lines I've heard in a long time 🤣🤣🤣
The whole bit with Jay being upset over Adam not saying gaming the system is hilarrious and one of my favorite moments from this channel in recent memory
Completely agree with Jay on the Pinocchio movies. That’s my issue with all the live action versions is it’s just the same thing but worse because it loses the charm. GDT’s Pinocchio is really going hard in story and emotion instead of “look what we can do… again!”
Oh, had no plans to watch Samaritan, but it actually looks like it could be fun. I certainly had no plans to watch The Greatest Beer Run Ever, but it looks much too good for what I ever thought it would be based on the title. I will watch Wednesday, because it's Chilling Adventures of Wednesday at Hogwarts. Can't beat Raul Julia as Gomez of course, but still, looks fun.
Samaritan was pretty meh ngl, wasn't bad but also wasn't good it's definitely a streaming service movie if it came to the cinema it wouldn't have done all that well, it felt kinda like Hancock a bit but there was also something else in there that I can't quite put my finger on, overall if you're thinking about giving it a watch I would recommend it but don't expect too much from it because it likely won't deliver.
Zac Efron finally sat still and took a good roll. Beer Run looks good and I’m surprised we’ve never heard this story. I’ve got uncles that were all in the military and they won’t talk about their experiences, just won’t speak on it at all so I can only imagine what being a kid in Vietnam was like and to come home to the hate those guys came home to, I’ll definitely watch this one.
In the Pinocchio v. Pinocchio debate, I've got to side with Jay. The GDT version looks like a weird fairy tale version of the story. The live-action Disney one looks like the Disney cartoon. Maybe it's bringing something to the table other than a third dimension, but I haven't really seen it in the trailers. And I'm looking forward to Wednesday. I love the casting choices. And the impression that I get is that whatever the Nevermore Academy was when Gomez and Morticia went there, now all the kids are all preppy and cheery.
Also on jay side on del toro movie of Pinocchio's film which I believe is based on The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi 1883 book which is darker story and different than Disney did by just taking the characters from the book and make there own Story just by using the characters from the book it seems just read the plot of the adventure of Pinocchio
Pinocchio IS nightmare fuel, Adam! And Disney trying to keep it cute instead of leaning into the creepy is why GDT's version looks better to Jay and me. Imagine if Disney had hired him, we could have had a Nightmare-Before-Christmas style classic. (And I know Nightmare was seen as anything but a classic when it came out, but that's even more reason why Disney should have taken a risk.)
“If you saw that lady playing Galadriel in real life, she’s so pretty you’d be UPSET.” I mean, I feel like that’s just confirmation she’s perfect to play Galadriel because I think if I saw Cate Blanchett in person I would feel the exact same way. 😆👍🏻
The Netflix Pinocchio does look better. When they did Spongebob on stage, they didn’t want to do replica foam costumes which also made Lion King on stage a better version. The Disney live action looks like it forgot the puppet was made of wood.
For Wednesday, it didn't look like Nevermore Academy -- despite its name -- was extra gothic or anything. Seemed like just a normal private school, which as Jay mentioned is where Addams Family stories thrive in a fish-out-of-water scenario.
Disney’s Pinnochio looks like a soulless cash crab that just makes me wonder: “What was even the point of remaking it?” Del Toro’s, creepy as the puppet looks, is doing *something*. It’s an artistic project with a soul and a vision.
Hahaha! I thought the exact same thing about the stop-motion Piocchio. Yikes! You would think I wouldn't feel anything close to horror watching that as an adult, but...
This is how much I enjoy Adam and Jay’s videos: here I am watching the entire video, despite having zero interest in watching a single thing feature in it.
Disney Pinocchio looks unsettling in a bad way. del Toro’s Pinocchio, while unsettling and kind of creepy, it’s in a good way that kids today will be watching for decades to come. Think Dark Crystal or Labyrinth.
I agree with both of you about Del Toro's Pinocchio. It looks better than the Disney live action version, but that puppet is nightmare fuel. Adam, you should try the original Disney animated version again. It really has some of the best animation the studio ever did.
Sly ALWAYS wanted to play Superman dating back to the 70s Chris Reeve film and "Samaritan" looks like a fun amalgam of "The Dark Knight Returns" and "Steel" I'm actually looking forward to seeing this 💁
It makes PERFECT sense to me that Robert Zemeckis is going to be the director for Pinocchio. After all, he directed Who Framed Roger Rabbit, another animation-mixed-with-live-action film, and did an awesome job with that. I'm actually more encouraged now that I've seen this trailer. Btw, Geppetto had to bring Cleo the cat AND his fish with him when Pinocchio went missing because there was no on to take care of his pets for him. Who was going to feed them if he was gone for days?
With Adam on the Willow film not sitting right! Also, whilst the Del Toro Pinocchio looks like it has a more heartwarming story than the Disney one (though you can't beat Tom Hank's charm), I must also agree with him that the puppet in Del Toro's version is something you do not want to stumble upon in a dark alley!
