Rio Grande Scenic Railroad train ride Alamosa to La Veta, Colorado

Enjoy this train ride on the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad. We cover the entire route from Alamosa to La Veta, Colorado. Much of the forest was burned during a devastating fire earlier this year. Fire was caused by a single person burning garbage. We also see several derailed cars from previous derailments along the line.

Travelled this line in 2011 over two days with #18, which is currently under overhaul. It was a great trip with heaps of photos stops. Well worth the visit, especially as we were all the way from New Zealand.

Wish I could have seen the steam engine. I heard it had trouble making steam at the higher altitudes.

It looks as thought they have picked up the Iowa Pacific train painted in the Illinois Central colors. I wondered what happened to that train.......

Is Iowa Pacific holdings still a railroad company?

Yes it is, but it is more less in bankruptcy. Most of the passenger cars as well as the F and E units are for sale.

at 49:45 that's my next door neighbor's property! :) And then suddenly the filming stops when they get to my property...ugh! Oh well. Write the RR and tell them to clean up all those damn cars!
