Wilko Johnson did his machine gun moves, his duckwalk, and his herky-jerky dance while still tethered to a guitar lead. Wireless transmitters hadn't been invented yet. Imagine if he had been totally unleashed. Top-notch playing _and_ showmanship. That's rock and roll rhythm and blues 💙.
They had been invented, they were just EXPENSIVE. AC/DC were using them, they were a little noisy and distorted the signal, to the extent that the wireless box sound was Angus youngs sound, he had to use the wireless box in the studio to get the same sound. So you never know, it may have ruined Wilkos sound using wireless. You can not beat a guitar a cable straight to an amp!!
They probably had been invented, the Stones certainly used them in 81. What makes a huge difference now is Bluetooth earpieces enabling the musicians hear a balanced sound of the band.
That Machine gun riff over the lyic "Here comes the warden with a Tommy Gun" Wow! and Wilko's facial expressions are amazing. RIP I wish I had the opportunity to have caught them in concert
I wish more people wore suits! Wilco, Brilleaux, Big Fig & Johhny B, just Wow, classic line-up, classic band, classic song, just sheer “in yer face” class. Give me a time machine, I want to go back to 1974 & watch all these bands all over again, now that’s my idea of heaven!
Wilko's guitar style and technical rhythm is very fucking unique and difficult to do! RIP Mr. Wilko Johnson thanks for your music and incredible style and vocals! 🎸🔥🎛️
Mr. John Wilkinson is one of the toughest guitarist, ever, Mr. Brilleaux is one of the best singers ever! Then the beat of the Big figure and John B Sparks makes it fabulous.
Wilco Johnson was an English teacher. His knowledgeof literature, however, far exceeds that of the average English teacher. He faced death with dignity and bravery and then beat it. Top man.
The pupil wanting spanked in class, made me laugh, he was caught on camera by her fellow students like a deer in the headlights... there she was, knee high boots, short skirt(frilly knickers,as she told Wilko) and her hair in bunches, Wilko all but admitted that was his toughest gig...glad he got to keep a copy of that photo...there's some lady now in her late 60's probably mourning his passing...RIP Legend! :)
Where was I ? 62 and only getting into them now. Possibly too stoned to know what the hell was going on back then. My musical taste was and is pretty eclectic. Everything from Beethoven to the Beatles. But Dr feelgood escaped my attention. Thank God I'm still alive and that technology has allowed me to find these Vids👍
@@WillyEckaslike Sorry no offence but was never really into the stranglers. The Clash. Sex Pistols. Exray Specs. To name but a few punk bands. But for some reason I never really dug the stranglers.
Lee was actually a mechanic by trade. According to the other band members, if their 'tour bus' ever broke down, he'd get underneath - white suit and all - and fix it. Was the suit ever cleaned? No. They did dirt, and it was good.
The Big Figure... what more to say... never a beat out of place, and bearly breaking a bead of sweat while carrying the whole performance on his back...
I was fortunate enough to see them a few times live, always with Wilko. started off bottome of the bill in a 5 or 6 band lineup at the Roundhouse, and quickly worked their way up until they were headliners. One of the best r'n'b/r'n'r bands evr to grace a stage.
Fuck fuckin me how good? Wilko fuckin ooooozes class and Lee well ..see you in heaven dude..life was never the same after seeing df when I was 13.. now that's 43 years ago FFS
Ace .
There was a time Dr Feelgood played regularly down my way often giggling with The Hamsters as both Essex boys and even saw them once with John Otway. Despite my taste in music being more punk rock these gigs were amazing as both bands were great live but also great musicians.
Je confirme. Je les ai vus à Lyon en 79. J'avais 18 ans. Je vis à présent dans la banlieue londonienne. J'ai vu Wilko trois fois, il est toujours aussi fabuleux.
