To be honest, why the fuck are we even calling these "events". This isnt an event, its just a pass, nothing else, no gamemodes, nothing fun on the client, nothing that makes you wanna come back and play. Calling these glorified scams "events" is an insult to every other live-server games that actually try to at least be fun. As bad as it is, imagine if something like Genshin tried that, said new event and literally nothing happened except for a new pass, they would shred them to pieces, why are we giving Riot a pass?

i dont buy the pass, but i remember that via free rewards, i used to get 400 tokens, so i could buy 2 orbs. they nerfed that to 300 tokens as well...

The one difference between the League Pass and Fortnite Pass (just for mention) is that if you purchase and complete a FortPass, it pays for the next one in currency with some leftovers. The league pass is a 1 time purchase and are you NOT guaranteed to get what you want since the orbs are random without duplicate protection (I've gotten that fire warwick skin 2 times now and I already have it). Its a big issue, and the worst they make the pass, the more it feels like a waste of money.

I think its funny nobody talks about how much better fortnite battle passes are than any other game. Having the ability to get enough vbucks to purchase the next battle pass is insane and on top of it getting skins emotes and other things make it feel like you are actually getting something for playing the game where all other games give you no currency for the game a bunch of tokens that have minimal value other than to get one skin and maybe a emote and a bag

Another recent example of "the biggest profit with the lowest effort" is Guardian of The Sands Skarner. The reworked version of the skin currently has its unique recall animation replaced with base skin's recall animation and some sand VFX smh

Remember in other battle passes, you may not be able to choose what you get, but you do get everything from the battle pass including the special items at the end (the equivalent of a prestige skin). In leagues battle pass, the only things that is exclusive to it, are chromas, which are extremely niche, and prestige skins, which you will need to use a whole battle pass worth of points on. So if you’re grinding for the prestige skin you will need the entire battle pass worth of points to get, so in league you spend the same amount of money as other battle passes and the same time (maybe even more) to get one skin, while the other battle passes give you more than 20 skins usually. And they still take grab bags out of it so that they don’t lose money on giving you a couple extra skins

The only way low spenders like me could earn cool stuff without gambling in chests or straigh up overpaying for skins in shop just got nerfed. What kind of 7D chess is this.

i remember back in 2018 with the first pass i got to buy the 2000 token prestige skin in addition to the other 2200 token reward these days i get not even 3000 tokens with the same amount of games/time spent

As someone who along the years stopped playing SR and ONLY plays ARAM nowadays I love that I keep getting ward skins that I can't even use, even tacticians have a better value than wards.. I never really understood ward skins even when I did play Summoners Rift - it's a ward, I put it down and never look at it again unless I path next to it.. I have so many ward skins even some I probably have no idea I have that's how little I care or look at them

Had my account perma banned 4 years ago, which I spent over 1k€ on. I wasn’t happy with the vague response from the support and that time around a lot of accounts got banned for the slightest misbehavior. (Had a 14 day ban prior for calling someone a troll) So I swore to myself, I’ll never spend money on LoL again and I didn’t. Just yesterday I was thinking about buying the pass to catch up on all champions faster. Glad I got reminded to stay to my words. 👌🏼

It's lovely how Riot keeps getting away by delievering less and squeezing out as a much money with more scammy monetization schemes. (Mythic Scam skins, Amazon Prime cancelled, Pass nerfs, Quantity over quality skins, Barebones ultimate skins, Your Shop nerfs, Skins not going on sale after years.)

As a new lol player, it's infuriating to see the amount of grind needed to unlock all legends, not worth it and I now play tft

Fact is, I haven’t done any micro transactions for about 4-5 years, I’m living clean, saving money for fancy meals from time to time and for my hobbies. I stopped doing it not because I can’t afford to, I stopped doing it because it all felt more and more like a waste, I miss the times when a cool cosmetic in a shooter means the player have achieved something, not just being rich, and League lost it’s special place when events basically died. I started playing league when SG Jinx launched, I didn’t know how to play through game, but I put my allowance into the trash and bought the champ plus the skin out right and started playing it, back then the events made the skin feel special, it motivates me to want to be immersed in a event, SG. Bloodmoon. Project. Poro King with the winter skins. The legendary Odyssey. And the first Spirit Blossom, which became the last event I made a purchase. The event modes or maps made it all felt like a festival, it was special.

Some events give you two prestige skins, forget about unlocking both by playing the game you'll never have enough time to unlock them without spending real money. i want to unlock chromas for the game but the amount of time that takes i only have enough for one choma and the prestige

They want to "give" more choise to players while also being one of the few games not giving away their actual main in game currency. That's riot for you.

Just to let you know, not all players wants the prestige skin, in example me. So, if you add the prestige skin to the past and in consequence you nerf the amount of tokens, some players are going to receive something they don't want. Also, the amount of skins that you receive in the capsule, is almost the same (I think it is more items) of what you receive for the bag.

Man... playing Helldivers and going back to this, really just give us the perspect of "for the consumer, for the investors" What is worse is that people will continue to buy this shit.

This is why I'm not buying this one or the next passes to come unless they bring in more rewards or lower the price. I mean come on. It's not like it even costs 10 dollars, it's 16! 16 dollars for a lot of work and very little guaranted reward

Also they have seemed to nerf the mission xp for the pass. For example, on heavenscale the level 5 mission gave you 780 xp for the pass, I'm already at mission 15 of this pass and its worth 700xp. And presumely I rushed the pass the missions should seemed to only let you reach level 40 before you're forced to grind the "play league mission" for 200 xp. I thought reacting level 60 was already a massive pain in the ass. Now we got to do that for levels 40-50? Yeah i think this is the last pass I get xD.

Even more interesting is the fact that Riot's other high grossing game, Valorant has a battlepass, which is actually half-fun to grind, has interesting rewards for both the full and the free versions. I only bought the Prestige Soul Fighter Pyke battlepass, and only because of the skin, and only after I collected enough previsional tokens. After buying, the fact that I got to have a Mythic skin for the price of an Epic seemed to be the only reward, since the only remarkable extra loot I got was a few lucky skin shards for champions I don't yet own, or didn't own at the time (Project: Varus, Dragonblade Riven, Sentinel Vayne). While when I bought a Valorant pass a year and a half ago (haven't played the game since), I got a fair few actually nice weapon skins, a ton of sprays and gun buddies, and even some well made lobby banner arts of agents I usually play, and it felt like a genuinely good bang for your buck. It is a bit apples to oranges, because Valorant doesn't have agent skins, instead it has weapon skins (not exactly sure how that affects the interactable content for any player) Plus I think Valorant's content is a bit more fun to have. Ward skins get a bit stale after a while, and emotes also have a kind of power cap, but Valorant's spray decals can be used in many interesting ways, and that is not even all the content there is to win from the battlepasses.

yea grabs bags are the best part of the pass but for me not to fussed with prestige skins so i either go for the mythic essence and get alot of orange essence or a mythic essence skins or i get alot of orbs for skin shards for rerolls and what they should do is literally put the chromas into the store maybe like half a year after the event so u can buy the chromas at some point since not eery one can get the skins etc or maybe not want to spend tokens on chromas

Not only they nerfed rewards, but also nerfed xp gains from missions, which leads you being forced to grind out 4 more milestones with playtime to reach level 50 (essentially prestige skin).

That’s crazy the first reason you jump to is “they didn’t have them in time”.

As a free to play person, I used to grind tokens for a little legend egg, but these days it's just been an orb and some blue essence (i don't get chests often enough for key fragments to be useful)

Its the same with the TFT battlepass. The split up the battlepass into 2 with less rewards, no eggs etc etc. Still the price is the same. I fucking hate it.

To me Riot is in the group of companies that have too much data and not enough people generating ideas with them. I'm sure they can see that whoever purchased the pass is only interested in the prestige skin. Therefore, why even spend time and money to create the other 3 skins ? Remove the unnecessary stuff, make the pass shorter with only 20 levels but more grindy. Each level represents 100 tokens, gives a reward equivalent to 40/50 tokens and finally unlocks the prestige skin at level 20. Now with the money and time saved, make those guys work on other stuff that brings you money.

I grind battlepasses to buy champion shards and disenchant them into blue essence so I can buy a lot of mystery icon chests when Essence Emporium pops up because I feel like a 'Prestige' skin aka a bleak recolor of an already existing skin has no value over legacy icons dating all the way back to 2002 😅

I feel like they're slowly shifting to a more strict monetization system for their skins. They're making every free/cheaper option worse and worse. I won't be surprised if they even remove free skins completely and make everything else more expensive. The pass will probably just become a grind for the prestige skin and some event themed emotes.

Exchanging the grab bag for a capsule definitely sucks... except that one capsule gave me Peacemaker Yone, so I'd say fair trade

The irony of a company that was praised for its monetization in the early 2010 and slowly started choking more and more their player base, adding terrible battle passes and more than tripling the price of their skins.

I don't really spends money on league (on specific skins), but I ocasionally buy the pass if I have already played a lot and would get around 2k tokens. I don't view these events as exclusive skins, more like a huge discount, because i can buy orbs with the tokens, which makes skins I get out of orbs more worth. According to Necrit, this isn't what he views the pass as, but I feel like this is another ascpect that has changed since one bag was removed and the amount of free tokens you got got also lowered. Before, you could buy 2 orbs + 1 from the pass + 1 bag. Now only 1 orb + 1 from the pass + 100 tokens (for keys, maybe). I don't really like prestige skins, I think they are a waste of money, but the tokens are a cheaper way of getting a lot of skins, which could be what Riot wants to prevent (This is only my idea).

I agree that Riot should put the prestige skin into the pass then maybe half the starting orbs to 2 and half the tokens throughout the pass to 1000 and I think more people would buy it because they would feel like they are working towards the Prestige skin not working towards a bunch of tokens

You know what kills games? Its not lack of content. People played WC3 for decades. It's greed. That's the only thing you need to look at to see if a game will make it for long. Greed = higher cost = lower purchase volume = more greed and so on. LoL generates WAY to much money for anyone to be able to justify removal of digital content in any way possible.

All honesty I am a religious league player since season 3 and I remember being broke so just getting the free tiers on the initial battle passes and you still got a decent level of loot, if you bought it you got a lot of loot and bonuses. I bought the winterblessed one despite people saying it was a scam because I wanted a border, i thought though why not give us some little animated vfx on top of borders or icons instead of the same thing 3 times Same thing steam does its not even an original idea I had to GRIND to get just the 2200 for mythic essence I mainly play aram the past couple years, ward skins are basically none existent. Give us some cool things to show off in lobby, in game, client, loading screen, etc that ain’t just a $50 skin or a ranked border for people who don’t want to suffer sq. I would love more effort put into the chromas too but riot wouldn’t see value in these things because of development time. Oh well someday will see that it’s us gamers who keep these companies alive and start to respect our time, effort and wallet and we let help them continue running s a service

I always only got the passes so I could get mythic essence. But now im sitting on 325 with nothing cool to get. Without the mythic essence unless you care for one cool skin theres no point in getting the passes.

I've stopped going for the prestige skin; I grind the tokens and use them to skin farm. It makes it easier. Especially if I don't care about the pskin. Emotes are always a hit or miss.

Ive been playing for a few months, i buy the pass just to get the champs for BE to unlock all champions faster, i find it weird that random champ shards arent just a thing you can buy in the main shop

I actually stopped playing league due to Riot's shitty changes to passes and monetization, their hypocrisy when saying that they listen to their community got me to quit the game

fortnite is so dope because if you buy the bp and finish it, you get a full refund and can buy the next one for free basically. its great customer retention

I have been buying the pass event since 2022, but I never care about banners or the gold skins they make, mostly i enjoy random collections, which why i llike the pass event for bags and orbs, but yes since last event there were no bag, and when i checked today for the new pass, there still no bags to earn, so pointless for me to buy the pass at this stage!

They could just make it the wild rift way where you could buy other stuff with you tokens and got the special skin when you spend over x tokens but they dont seem to care

As someone who mainly plays TFT, the lack of TFT items in Battlepasses and token shops is just annoying. Like, please give us like one arena and one Legend per pass, or at least make some special TFT items purchasable with tokens.

Never bought LoL's pass, but used to buy TFT's, now i'm going to stop with that one too, pass is shorter now, with fewer rewards but remains with same price

As someone who bought the majority of passes over the years i can definetly say that i never once used the token for the prestige skin. I always just go for the orbs and in a very few cases one of the chromas. In my eyes 2000 tokens for the prestige skin which in 99% is just a downgrade of the original one is not worth it. Also i stopped buying them at the winterblessed event due to the constant nerfs, and after seeing this garbage im glad im glad i made the right choice

I only bought some of the first passes, because I was really into some of the contents and themes. But I stopped once I realized some factors like: you couldn't do much besides getting the Prestige skin; you can't buy the next pass with the return of the current pass; and more importantly there are no cool content for the champions I like over and over again.

They could add a new option being a much lower amount of Mythic Essence. Like, 10 Mythic Essence for 250 tokens maybe.

It doesn't matter how many or how loudly people complain if they are still buying the passes. If everyone who was upset about the changes collectively stopped giving Riot their money, over time it may do enough to cause them to reconsider. But I don't suspect any collective playerbase of a game with microtransactions and FOMO has the impulse control to do that, otherwise companies all over wouldn't be pulling this kind of stunt off cooldown.

I think it's not really necessary to put the prestige skin at level 50. Instead just give us the choice for a free skin of the new skins. So we get an epic skin worth 1350rp and some little extras. The token system isn't bad, but they should start to give tokens AND something sometimes in addition like an orb / emote / title / banner etc

Imagine if the pass would technically be a discount for skins and boxes, you just have to essentially level up the pass to get them. Rather than buying the skins or boxes individually. It would be something to work towards during the event and actually rewarding.

Guess what's the worst part of all this? I'll end up buying it and just farm for it anyway

Maybe they should spend resources to ACTUALLY FIX THE ISSUES WITH THE GAME. Then more people would start playing it again and spend money to cover their expenses. But it feels like they have completely embraced the downwards spiral. From ''biggest budget ever'' leading right into mass layoffs to their insistency on making communication in their game harder with every ''addition'' they make to it and just blatant lies regarding certain gameplay directions it just blows my mind how they are willingly killing their main money maker so profusely.

As a whale who owns every purchasable skin I was pretty happy about OE being replaced in passes. That was completely useless for me. I really enjoyed "fresh" rewards like titles or banners. The fact that they removed even that will make me NOT purchase the pass for the first time. I will not support changes like these.

I already mostly stopped playing TFT after they nerfed the pass and made it a shitty Gacha system, and I am probably skipping this pass as well. Riot is acting like the items in their games are subject to inflation. I'm so sick of micro transactions in games being so over priced, legit buying 1 or 2 skins is equal to buying an entirely new game, and almost every game shares this model. I can afford it, but it is hard for me to justify doing it, because it doesn't make sense. I used to buy only the pass, but maybe it is time to stop spending on league all together.

It would be interesting to let tokens not expire and instead open a “token shop” where you can use specific tokens (for current content maybe) with more value or old tokens with less value. Imagine a skin that is 2000 current tokens could be bought by 3000 old tokens (?) something like that, and maybe you could even buy other skins or loot if you don’t want the skins

I used all the tokens for skin capsules, and got about 6-10 skins per pass

After watching the video I remembered the old events league had. You know, Dark Star, Star Guardian, April fools, The versus events, etc. What were the purpose of those events? Fun. Fun gamemodes, some interesting lore, cool stuff, and at the end you had the skins and stuff you put money if you wanted to. Last year, Soul fighter managed to catch that old essence the old events and unique gamemodes had. It was so much fun. It really sucks that now we have to wait until July to get an actual event with good rewards, skins, thematic, and maybe gamemodes if we are lucky. These random events just feel so bad and just a blatant money grab scam from riot. But fuck, everything today in league feels like it NEEDS to be oriented to money. I don't care about the gamepasses, if you want to have them to get the bag so be it, but don't just make something around the concept of a gamepass, it's so bad. This is so random, but I remember watching a clip of xqc back in the day of him playing league and stating "The game has no soul" or something like that, and it hurts but it's true. We really lost old league in a bad way.
