Cliff's Dream was killed on the 3 May 2016. His horrific treatment is the perfect example of the racing industry trying to hide the brutal reality of horse racing.
Rich owners in horse racing. Should have had the horse treated (probably a broken limb) and then given away to a caring person. Seeing that horse fighting for it's life wrenched the heart.

Its so they can put the horse down in a humane way and with respect, filming the horse behind the screen is just a complete lack of respect for the horse and the jockey and trainers involved with the horse. Some times putting the horse down is the most humane thing instead of it enduring a life long of pure pain with such a low quality of life. You really don't understand any bit of the sport. Everyone who rides and trains the horses puts so much love and care into the horse to get them ready for there sport. Horse racing wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the gamblers, there’s billions being waged every year and unfortunately horses are collateral damage, dispensable by the owners if they need expensive vet care unless they’re potential top class mares or sires. Many horses are raced to the point of exhaustion with many dropping dead of heart attacks during and after races , since the start of November 2021 , eleven horses have died on English racecourses , 3 died of heart attacks and the rest were “ destroyed” because they broke bones or went lame , as an industry ,racing , especially the jumps, should be shut down as there is absolutely no justification for the pain and suffering it causes .
The gamblers aren't the only ones. Also the horse owners pushing pushing pushing for more purse money and champion status and breeding rights. They're making an investment and want to see it pay out.
Racing exists in dubai, and it’s illegal to gamble there so your statement is flawed, racing exists because it’s entertaining and there’s people throwing millions into it even if gambling was outlawed
Depends on the injury sustained too. Not every horse that falls gets put to sleep. I'm sure he damaged his leg beyond repair or hurt himself that would have left him with no quality of life once healed. They only do this if absolutely necessary

Couldn’t have been saved, they did this the most humane way possible. He had a fractured knee. Even if they didn’t put him down, it would lead to years of pain and eventually damage to the other legs due to uneven weight on the legs

unfortunately leg breaks in horses are those types of injuries that result in euthanasia. he fractured his knee, although there was a small possibility to surgically repair it (not many breaks can be fixed at all) it would still cause major problems down the line. it’s a very upsetting thing to happen and we all wish there was a way to fix it instead of letting it to rest. it could happen to any horse anywhere, it’s heartbreaking
If they must keep horse racing around, give the poor creatures a chance to live. If they are gonna not avoid accidents, they need to either ban racing or invent something to help the broken legs and avoid death.
A knee fracture is a very serious injury especially when it's caused by a rotational fall, as it appears this one was. Usually not a surgically correctable injury. Far kinder to euthanize the horse where it stands rather than prolong its suffering.
@@gazehoundgal You have no idea how much it hurts me to say a horse must be put down but in this case, he was struggling to live and didn't seem like he was in much pain. So....I have owned and trained and loved a lot of horses for over 30 years....this vet and "the help" pulled the broken leg all the way back, to get the horse to lean down to give him a lethal dose and euthanize him. Horses cannot live on 3 legs like dogs. Its not possible ( too long to text why) but this horse did not deserve its last memory to be of even more severe pain...he was truly fighting to live...senseless and heart wrenching.
I'd just like to state that if a horse takes a heavy fall like that involving the knees, the chances of there being serious injury or permemnt disability are high.. If its a serious one it will be physically evident and it wouldn't be out of the ordinary for a vet to take a decision at the racecourse to have a horse euthanized as a result.. The reason they are trying to sit the horse down is because its distressed, in pain and trying to kick up which would cause even further pain for the horse.. Horses are units, they are very heavy and awkward to handle when in distress so the images of the men trying to sit the horse down looks rough and ready but you can see they are all trying their hardest to settle cliffs dream and do what's right for the horse...

As nice as an idea that'd be, it's unrealistic. Most injuries sustained in horse racing are broken legs, most of which fail to heal properly...these horse would either have to live a life of pain, or have the leg amputated. Both of which are inhumane. Sure, you keep the horse on pain killers, but you'll never truly rid the animal of pain (they are prey animals, and are known to hide pain). Plus over use on a poorly healed leg will not last long, eventually leading to more damage and pain for the horse. Amputation, can get rid of the pain, but horses cannot live on three legs. Their body weight and poor weight distribution makes it a bad idea...if done, the added weight pressure on the other three legs will eventually lead them to deteriorate, resulting in the initial problem of pain. Hence, euthanasia in these cases is the best option for these horses...if we could rehabilitate these horses to do work like you suggest, I'd be all for it. Alas, it's not feasible to justify in regard to horse welfare. But the better option overall, would be to ban all horse racing events! That way we wouldn't have these issues arising in the first place...but banning horse racing just isn't going happen anytime soon. These horses would never have come into this world but for the horserace industry. They are swooned over, admired, and called beautiful because of their athleticism and records on the track. So the very thing that arguably has led to their demise (heart attack, severe joint injury, etc) is also the thing that gets them noticed and acclaimed. And you never know: even the family horse whiling away its hours in the pasture and occasionally ridden, can suffer a fate like this.

@@brendanpower2296 - Your words, not mine. I didn't say anything about how a racehorse feels; not my point. Not always true. My QH broke his near hind leg in 2 places in a paddock injury. I confined him in a makeshift hospital in his paddock, changed his bandages every 3hrs round the clock, slept next to him on a camping cot and got him through it. In 4 months we cantered for the 1st time with no lameness at all. He was lucky enough that I had 15k to spend on his treatment and the time to spend tending to him 24/7. If there’s enough money and dedication and in break isn’t too severe a horse can be mended.
dream alliance was saved by the jockey telling the vets that the owners wouldn't like it if they put the horse down. he lived and later retired. all depends on how bad the injury is but it seems vets are too quick to put a horse down when it could be saved
It does indeed depend on the type of break in the bone & where it is. It's because the good leg becomes compromised half way through the horses recovery from having to bear so much weight on it while the break in the other leg is healing & develops a chronic inflammatory condition that makes the vets preemptively euthanise a horse. The vets want to save the horse having to endure the excruciating pain
Horse racing like any other sport has its dark sides . Having to put down broken up horses is part of it. Some horses die in training, some don't make it to the racetrack and are sent to the knackered to make up for room. Most retired racehorse who are just way to many to find a new home become part of your pet's food. That 's the world we live in. There' s not enough space for everyone, there's not enough financial means to go around. End of. If you have a heart for horses, then why don't you have a heart too for stocks and poultry? They live too, they known the meaning of fear, of pain and misery we are responsible for. Get a grip!!. One more thing, it's in the horse's interest to put a screen so you don't have to force a horse with a fractured leg to move a place where crowds can see him from. For those who don't known I worked as a stable lad for nearly twenty years and worked as a racing photographer for another 17 seasons. I ve seen my fair share of casualties. and I known just how it feel to go and pick up your runner knowing he 's gonna be shot down in a few minutes times.. Before they pass away, they just rear up for the last t time . It' s not a funny sight at all. It's just the dark side of racing. Everything has a dark side.

He very definitely shattered his knee. You could see it go backwards when he stood up and he didn't put weight on it but stood in a sawhorse stance to keep his weight on his back legs when he was over by the fence. When horses are jazzed up from pain and fear, sedation often does not work well, and I saw the handler supporting his left leg to keep it from causing worse pain. That is also why they were trying to have him lie down--to limit the pain and get him under control. The green screens are to give quiet and privacy in that most trying and sad event, not to hide what they had to do, although that is also appropriate, as it is a sad thing for them all and should be allowed to be private. There was no bullying, just a trying situation being handled as best they could, so get off your damned high and mightily ignorant egos.
So the horse choose to be a horse race and then end up like this for the sake of people making lots of money out of it. He choose to die by stupidity of humans who are rich after him and live a long happy healthy life because of this. Yes, good for well intended humans to put this poor horse out of his misery and choose not to show anything through the green screens being there just to give quiet and privacy to the horse, even after he was already being killed. But I'm a good person. just like you, with no damned high or mightily ignorant ego and I only wish that people have the same heart to do the same to whoever approves of this to be the right way of dealing with living beings.
Horses have no concept of "privacy" and tarps held up on poles are not going to "provide quiet" What nonsense. This horse was in extreme pain. He was being injected with some drug, to end his life. He was not thinking about some need for "privacy". The purpose of the screens is to block the view of the paying public. These workers noticed that someone was making a video, from one side, and they moved quickly to block the camera view of that person. They were engaged in the final phase of the killing of a horse and they wanted to pretend something better, to avoid any loss of racing revenue.
Horses not only break bones on a racecourse but out in the field or native pony's on the moors or forests, is Dartmoor, Exmoor, New forest pony's, free running ponies may not be found immediately, majority of these ponies injuries are caused by car driver's! My horse fractured it's pelvis in the field some time between 15.00-17.00 hrs, seen by the vet by 18.00 and diagnosed, she had to have a month tied in stable then 6 months in a barn, 20ft X 20ft, she was fairly placid temperament, so her mind was reasonable ok but she lost a lot of muscle tone and looked like crap when she was eventually given the ok to Go out in an enclosed area, doped to avoid any running around! It is now 19 months since the injury, and I have only just sat on her, she is sound but feels tight in her back, due to the fact that the pelvis is a circular structure as opposed to a straight and it is sorounded by muscle that is the only reason she is still alive, have to say there have been many times over this time that I wondered if she be better uthanised
A horse being euthanized is bad..very bad... and upsetting.. Unnecessary to see the horse die if it can be helped so the green tapes are very necessary. The vets made the call that the injury is too severe to be recovered from without immense pain for the horse in the meantime.. You have to have the faith in the vet making the call as you would a doctor making a call in the hospital.. They know their shit and you have to respect that and why would a RU-vidr come on here and question that decision? Lol
Often the only humane option after a horse breaks its leg is to euthanize it. This is because horses have heavy bodies and delicate legs, broken leg bones are usually shattered making surgery and recovery impossible.
So glad they have the green screens, no one has any idea how much that poor horse suffered. Well, except for the people with a shred of intelligence and the tiniest bit of compassion. Those people know exactly how much that poor horse suffered. But the rest of the morons who think horse racing is fine, they are happy with this. Instead of prolonging his pain and suffering if he never healed, they made that choice straight away. Some horses that fall dint have this done to them, just unfortunately some do due to the injuries they sustain
@@thebricknellkids6892 not quite how it works, a horse that can’t support its weight evenly on all four legs can not survive. Even if he had managed to start recovery, he would probably develop arthritis or laminitis, which is very painful. The right thing to do was just put him down and end the sudden pain before it got worse
