That chill voice is that of a surfer, theyre such chill folks! Saw a video of a couple yesterday who couldn't swim but went in on a raft. He perished, she clung to the raft and was rescued. It's not a swimming pool, the ocean is a powerful beast, don't challenge it😟 Don't go in if you cannot swim! Even good swimmers lose to this element.
Pretty sure I was in a rip in the North Myrtle area. It was in mid-April quite a few years ago. The water was chilly, but it was a really warm day so it felt great to get out beyond the breakers and float on my back for a while. After what was probably a few minutes, put my feet down to tread water and felt REALLY cold water. About the same time, my left hand bumped something rubbery. Probably not a shark but it freaked me just enough to know I’d better swim back. The beach looked a long way away, but I didn’t panic. Just used my dependable side stroke to gradually get back in. By the time I did, I had drifted quite a way up the beach. My partner at the time said he thought he’d have to call my parents to tell them I drowned. Long story short: try not to panic and just float and tread water when you get tired. When the breakers are rough, try and let them pass over you. I have tremendous respect for the ocean and have never been out that far since.
