Loudest cheer at Wembley all day the other year was when John was in the crowd as the camera panned over to him and we could all see him on the Big Screen. I've never seen so much affection from so many people in a single moment for one man before and I doubt I ever will again. Rest In Peace
RIP to a good man who gave the City of Coventry something that will be cherished forever. I think everyone on that day in 1987 (apart from Spurs fans) were sky blues supporters. Thoughts with all of his family and friends ❤
John use to drive me and his son to school in his huge Mercedes during 1987. I remember how exciting it was as Cov got further and further in the FA cup and how relaxed John seemed about it all. A great man indeed. A lovely tribute too.
I personally met John at his home a few times (me doing home improvements). I was absolutely in awe of him to start with but after a few short moments I was at ease ..he was funny ,very genuine and absolutely coventry city mad ..one of the nicest people I have ever met . RIP BIG MAN ..A TRUE LEGEND .
I know John sillett from balsall common,hi was come there to wash his car,i wash his cars for 10 years, and i did some jobs in his garden, was brilliant man,Rip John sillet!
Sad news. I remember him as a solid full-back during Jimmy Hill's early years at CCFC. He was a major contributor to the clubs rise from division 3 to division 1. And of course he was co-manager when we won the FA cup for the first and only time. He was a great footballer, a great manager and a great human being.
RIP BIG JOHN gave me and my family all kinds of amazing memories for that I will be eternally grateful. Never gonna be forgotten 🙏 ....PUSB Go for it Go for it CITY
Always remember his kind words about a Liverpool away performance at Highfield Road, seemed like such a lovely man, and he did such great things for Coventry City, I'm sure he'll be turning in his grave at how the Coventry fans are suffering now, RIP from a Liverpool fan.
A lovely man, a larger than life character .......the word legend will doubtless be used, and rightly so. One little anecdote, JS had a little known young player called Stuart Pearce (later a.k.a. "Pscycho" Pearce ) install the lights in John Sillet's stable / outhouse. John knew a good man when he saw one, and he knew how to get the best out of them.....both on.... and clearly off the pitch.
Part of our collective history passed away today, i still remember your smile on that day from the stands.....class act that put a smile back on the faces of not just Coventry but also English football when it was down post Heysel.
Snoz, one of US FOREVER. Thanks for creating so many great memories, I was just 10 when you arrived, You made a massive impact to our City and it's people To get the chance to live my Dads dream of walking down Wembley Way to see the city in the final, wow, to win it, incredible. You made it possible and never doubted it. Thanks from 4 generations of the Suddens family.
I was 8 years old & lived in the Binly oak were my father Jack Sanderson was manager & a good friend to John & George, when the team went for a run in the park they were always last by 10 yds or so, I had to stand outside & tell them the team was running up the hill after They finished their pints & jokes they latched on to the end of the team as they ran by. LEGENDS in there own lifetime sorely missed.
Sky Blue Legend, such a nice friendly man, everybody loved him, always smiling, I was at the Final, what a day, my favourite line at Wembley was the winning goal, he said "What is Lloyd McGrath doing on the wing, he can't cross his legs!!" GOAL!! RIP Snoz.
If you wanted a manager to galvanise a team with infectious laughter then snoz was that man his character and passion will be hard to succeed but mark Robbins is close on his tail. Pusb RIP George and John may the sky blue highway take you to heaven.
💙⚽️💙 The many times I met John including working with him at Highfield road & the Richo I found he had no ego he was just funny easy going & down to earth . A good bloke with a talent for bringing out the best in many players. PUSB!! 💙⚽️💙
Welled up watching that. It will be emotional on Saturday no doubt. Would be nice to think Snoz, the Iron Man and Big Cyrille are sharing a beer somewhere. Big game at the weekend, let’s put on a show for a proper legend. PUSB. RIP John and thanks for everything.
