@@NomenClature-o8sour economy is stronger than it’s ever been and we’ve recovered from Covid better than any other first world country, but you probably believe it was a hoax
Even the lower trims are crazy. Base spec with 4 doors is 36k. I'll take a base maverick for 9k less. No one is really towing that much with these anyway.
Those seats are atrocious for leg space at the back.. They should be an option IMO, not stock. Just for that and that alone, I'd get the Ford Raptor over this. Oh and not at those prices.. Shave a solid $30k off both.
@@darrelwhite2649 You can shave about $6k of the RR with the ZR2. And I test drove one and the 2.7L felt like a turd. Walked away because of how weak it felt.
Complete gimmick truck. I'm a Toyota fan, but this thing is the most underwhelming, ridiculous, overpriced Toyota to come out in a long while. I'll stick to my 4Runner.
Nice and beautiful truck, There is only one tiny little problem... Over $70000 for a 4 cylinder truck, that sounds like a small little yaris not even a corolla, please come on. They are stealing people's money with those type of seats.
You haven’t driven one. You’re talking out of your ass lol. . This engine actualy makes more power than that slug 3rd gen v6.. this is deff not like a Corolla or Yaris.. 😂
@@chrism869 right and it’s small af and has an econo box powertrain. You can get a well equipped full size truck that is superior at absolutely everything except for fitting in parking spots for the same price
@@ImOldGreggyou think you sound smart but the old taco had either an i4 or v6 with the same auto or manual gearbox as found on toyota's "econoboxes." all manufacturers share power trains between models to save on r&d costs. the V6 has been the same for more or less two decades with incremental updates.
Yea long travel suspension would have been better. Pretty sure those suspension seats got banned from baja racing because they were snapping spines after landing jumps...not that it mattered when less then 5% of Pro owners will be off-roading.
The price aint doing it. No front locker and current engine problems (2.4L i Force) Ranger Raptor has more ground clearance and a front locker and a V6 with less stress on it.
@@oldmanmike4995 if you want a truck for yourself then this argument doesn't matter at all. If your buying a truck for someone else in 5 to 10 years then sure
@@oldmanmike4995 Yeah but they also dont suck to drive like every Toyota ive ever driven. Driven plenty of 4Runners, Tacomas, and owned a GX460. Now I have an LX570 and thats the first Toyota ive actually liked to drive. I'll take the depreciation hit to actually enjoy driving the vehicle I have to get in every day.
I'm in Canada. With taxes, that's just shy of 90k$. Without a front locker. With a shit-ton of gimmicks that will not work well in -20°C weather. Seriously, car makers have gone nuts.
@@iblongshiababy Raptor much better overall. Higher spec live valve suspension, 6 cylinder twin turbo 405 hp stock, now you can get a Ford performance factory tune that raises power to 455 ho and 536 ft torque, all with factory warranty. Also developed in Australia, undergoing extremely harsh testing. All for 58k US, thisTacoma goes for 65k+. No contest
@@iblongshia The 3.0 Ecoboost has been out since 2016, literally 8 years. What does it have to prove? If anything its the Tacoma motor that needs to be proven. Its a heavily revised version of the motor that has only been in the highlander since 2022.
@@anonymous00117 no I’m not a fan of Nissan. Actually I had a Nissan Altima 2013 lasted 10 years before having problems that were not worth repairing, but I will never buy a Nissan again.
Always thought it was weird that the flagship models are limited in colors. You would think spending so much money as earned you the right to pick whatever available colors you want. Also who greenlit diarrhea brown for the TRD pro exclusive color? Lmo
The 3.4L would make this thing significantly more appealing to me. But since Ford has the 2.7L and 3.0L Ecoboost in the ranger I can just buy one of those.
I wonder how this truck will do in terms of global sales. Ford has positioned the Ranger as a global vehicle and so they claim to have considered global “tastes” into the design and emerged with their relatively bland look. The Tacoma “TRD PRO” with iForce Max looks like a comic book hero! Very angular and aggressive. Does that mean nobody outside of North America and Japan will find it appealing? Will it sell in Australia?
Fun fact about that pump: it's just a standard shock pump that MTB riders use to adjust fork and shock pressures. If you want one, your local bike shop will be happy to sell you one for not the $100USD (!!) that Toyota will sell you one for.
Decisions, decision... $40k Maverick hybrid or this $80k truck (price does not include taxes, fees, advantage dealer installed package that you can't forgo and small dealer markup of $15k.) They should make it PHEV.
Ranger Raptop (without any BS markups from dealers in the US) starts at $55k USD but doesn't have any real options. The Tacoma TRD Pro (before any BS markups) starts at $63.9k USD and it has 1 paid option...mud flaps. I would choose the Raptop over the TRD Pro.
I bought a Ranger Raptor about 2 months ago, and I am so happy with my purchase. I think this TRD is sick, however the pricing is outrageous, and the power is down significantly. on top of that Ford just came out with a factory tune for the RR, so for roughly $900 you can get about an extra 50 HP and 100 lb ft of torque boost as well.. so I believe Toyota and chevy are falling behind in this Baja segment.
It’s weird to me that they sorta took the truck in a fast Baja off roading direction with the advanced seats and whatnot kinda like the Ranger raptor, something that I think most people would agree the raptor comes out ahead in. I feel like they should have tried to differentiate by adding more rock crawling and hardcore off roading oriented features like a locking front diff. Just seems like a missed opportunity.
How much are those seats going to cost to replace when our American fat asses wear those gas tubes out. The trunk and hood don’t weight much and they wear those things out on every single vehicle. Why wouldn’t Toyota put a straight six in this thing? That b58 bmw engine would be so good in this truck.
Knowing Toyota, those shocks probably cost half the price of the truck at the parts counter. The damn nav system for my Lexus GX460 cost $10,000 in a truck that was like $55k new 🤣 Gotta send it in to a bike shop to have them rebuilt every season like a mountain bike suspension.
If you think it’s too expensive, don’t buy it. Don’t worry about other people and what they do with their money. I picked up a TRD Off Road (TRD Amateur) yesterday for $6,500 off MSRP, so they’re making deals. ❤
Best of luck, hope it treats you well! My buddy traded his 3rd gen trd off road in for the 4th gen. He had his 3rd gen back by the end of the week as his new truck had a catastrophic failure with the entire electronics system which totaled the brand new (still stock) car.
Are the internal bump stop design same as the lower trims? I would really hate to spend that much money only to have the shock top hat fly thru its housing when I drive over a pothole. Why would the new Tacoma go with a sedan level bump stop is beyond me.
Ranger Raptor is infinitely better. Get a twin turbo V6 putting out considerable more HP, actually has a backseat (the gimmicky seat absorbers are a joke...right?), and those gloss black fender flares are not going to hold up after off-roading a couple times. Ford for the win, plus it's 10k cheaper than the Tacoma TRD Pro.
@@DeuceDeuceBravo The Tacoma weighs more so you will not get the benefit of that extra torque. For $800 from Ford, you can tune (under warranty) the Raptor to 455 hp.
@@layne4376 Agreed. Just pointing out the power numbers aren't drastically better for the Raptor. And the factory tune requires premium gas for the extra power... That would get very pricey.
I can’t believe the overwhelming amount of disappointment I feel with this Tacoma, and I’ve been a Tacoma fan for a long time and have owned 2 of them. I feel like Toyota is going in a wrong direction with what they’ve done with the Taco and the 4Runner.
The only thing that's dumber than the price of this truck is the size of the back seat. The Maverick has more. Though this thing oozes style it's so compromised as a truck that I would call it closer to a Supra than a truck. It's something for image and showing off, not for work.
Yes, my biggest pet peeve Yuri called out, that car companies do not allow you to put the bright/cool interior colors with bright/cool exterior colors. you pick a red car you cant have red interior. I want red on red! (BMW is one of the few if only that still allows this to be a choice)
Add: - more fuel capacity (they shrunk the tank size for this generation) - rear passenger air vents (the new 4Runner has them, same interior console) - Everest green (color on the new 4Runner) Remove: - isodynamic seats - electric raise/lowering tailgate - at least $5k off the price tag With those changes, I’d take one. If they’re keeping this MSRP at more than $60k, it had better have the Tundra’s TTV6 powertrain to really compete with the Ranger Raptor.
It needs more power, Japanese cars have been underpowered for the last 10 years. The only exception is the type r civic, GR corolla and Supra. Lexuses are all slow, Nissans are slow (even the z400), Mazdas are slow, Hondas are slow, other Toyotas are slow.
That truck is bodylifted way too high. Looks silly, doesn't help in any way, but hurts in many ways. Usually Toyota isn't stupid like this. Strange. As are the stupid fake seats shocks. Shocking jackassery. Was this designed by Americans in the US and not actual Toyota people?
The Ford Ranger Raptor annihilates this Tacoma in most every tangible way. Even the Chevy Colorado ZR2 is more capable per other tests here on YT. The value proposition of this truck is just horrid … literally $15K to $20K overpriced.
A snow flake would have a greater chance in hell. I’d take the Ford every time over the new Tacoma…Land Cruiser…4Runner. Absolutely going to drive my 2020 Tacoma into the ground, hoping Toyota will show some signs of sanity before I need to replace it,
Get a 2017 F150 XLT, pimp the crap out of that, and you’ll have a nicer truck than both the Ranger Raptor, or a Tacoma TRD Pro, while spending at least 40% less. Thank me later. Bye.
If u have enough $ u can probably customize whatever colors u want. If ur just picking from what’s available tho, they prob don’t have red on red or whatever because they don’t have enough desire for combination’s like that. U got $ tho… they might work w ya.
2019 Ford: Ranger is going to have a turbo 4 engine only 2023 GM: The Colorado and Canyon will be turbo 4 engines only 2024 Toyota: Tacoma will be turbo 4 engine only 2024 Ford: Ranger has the turbo 4, optional 2.7 turbo V6 and 3.0 turbo V6 in the Raptor. Oh and here’s an optional software update for the 3.0 for an extra 50 HP and 100 lb/ft of torque 😏
Great truck no question, but capability wise they compete with the Ranger tremor and the TRD off road. They don’t quite have the suspension setups of these trd pro, ZR2, or Ranger raptor
No bump stops on the frame, and people are blowing their shock top hats or rather top mounts. What a stupid decision by Toyota, and I look forward to them eating crow and putting them back on probably a mid cycle refresh. The truck does look good, but sitting in it. It feels like I’m lying down compared to my 4Runner. Automatic lift gates for somebody that’s ready light and not heavy is just something that’s gonna break in the future. It’s gonna be costly. Interior dash does look good, but I hate digital display for the gauges as again that’s just something that in the future, if it breaks can be very expensive to repair.
I had an 18 Pro I just traded it in for a 24 offroad base manual. Much nicer drive to me. A 23 Pro in Canada was 64k now 84k and my province is 15 % which is 23k in the difference.
I swear all the pro stuff in 2024 are a “not much to offer for an insane price tag.” iPhone 16 Pro, PS5 Pro, Tacoma TRD Pro. And I bet there’s someone out there with all three on orders. 🤣
Ranger Raptor costs significantly less, has a better suspension setup, more ground clearance, and a larger displacement engine with more power. Can’t even justify Toyota reliability here as the new Tacomas have been horribly unreliable (I know from personal experience). Not even having a bump stop on the LCA on their desert runner trim is wild…
Nice truck, LOVE the Terra color, but I'm not paying that much for a 2 seat truck. Also, we need an FJ Cruiser shirt! Ooops, I mean Nouveau Riche Retro FJ eyes shirt lol!!
Hey boys, I'm back on this video humbly requesting the E46 M3 Tee. -- GREAT video as always! Love you guys! (p.s. if u want to use my e46 to debut the tee you're more than welcome to ;) its mint and clean.
How is the transmission programming? That was my chief complaint about the 3rd Gen. I felt like I was always having to force it to downshift just to keep a constant speed. Putting it into ECT PWR helped, but it was a real chore to drive because of the transmission being programmed for max efficiency.
Man as much as hurts to say this, but if I was in the market for this kind of truck it would be the Chevy. Even then it would probably be a no go, I’m just not paying that for a 4 cylinder. But since I’m not I got a normal mid size, the frontier.
Ford dealer markups negate the price difference. Ford dealers in Honolulu charge a $20k “market adjustment” price gouge …. Honolulu Toyota charges zero markup.
The TRD Pro is the only new Tacoma I like... but given it's price and the mechanical issues Toyota is having it's an impossible buy. GMC Canyon or Ford Ranger are superior.
You're probably right but I do not need a truck with 4 cylinder with a pack of triple A batteries in it... I used to be a Toyota lover, no more now. You wanna feel what it is a real truck drive the Ford ranger raptor, you'll see 😊
This is for the Costco Kevin suburbanite types whos experience offroading consists of accidentally rolling over curbs. Those seats are hilariously overengineered and garish for something so functionally benign.
that price and 4cly no thank you .... bring back suicide access cab doors and 6ft bed. I hate these 4 door options. Bring back 2 door +access cab PRO !!!!
The seats should be optional on the Pro, and the intake should be optional on the Trailhunter. I wouldn't be able to leave with either. And Toyota screwed up by not using longer suspension arms, like the Ranger Raptor. The Ranger Raptor would get my money, especially considering the price difference.
Umm…. No… guess they’re scared of Toyota to call this under powered expensive 💩 out There is no world that this is a Tie… I would go with the raptor and I’m a Toyota fan.
I was a gen 3 Tacoma owner for 8 years and now I own a Tacoma hybrid and to say you guys miss that V6 vs this new hybrid engine with the 8 speed is shocking lol.. You need to drive them back to back!
Not that anyone buying this thing cares about saving money…but that seat pump looks like a mountain bike shock pump. Buy one of those instead of whatever ridiculous price Toyota will charge for a new seat pump.
Since everyone wants to tear down the tacoma. The Tacoma Trd Pro looks like it's been working out for 30 years and the Ranger Raptor looks like it's been sitting on the couch eating doritos for 30 years
The seats are ridiculous, and add $ 2000 a piece to the cost of the truck. The on road setting for the seats actually make the seat dampers softer to move more. The off road setting makes them have more dampening for sharp jolts and movement.....which is opposite of what Yuri said
To be honest, I don't think having a dip stick is cool in a new car. It makes me think of having drum brakes on a car. I have an e36 and an e39, so don't tell me I don't respect my elders. I've also had cars that told me the oil level was low, but it wasnt. So I added oil, and it cost me money.
I'll save the 20k and get zr2 looks better and has more features you actually want. Not electric power tail gate and shock seats lol. Raptor and ZR2 are the kings
