Soquel Demonstration State Forest is where I first learned to ride a mountain bike back in 1996, under the tall redwoods and on the resulting tacky dirt, and back then, we didn’t even dream about trails like the Flow Trail! Santa Cruz mountain biking is super fun, never too rocky or gnarly, and Flow Trail is a great, jump infested trail.

This is great! I was there practically every weekend this past summer and it looks like you rode it at peak "blown-outness". The recent rain has got the dirt back in shape, but many berms could still use some love.

I was lucky enough to get a couple of runs on it in October - some of the best fun ever on a MTB. The climbs up to it sort you out but well worth the effort - cool video Jeff - love your riding style.

what an amazing trail! You ride those berms sooooooo FAST! It might just be me, but I don't enjoy the ear cam nearly as much as the normal chest cam. Keep up the great vids

At around 930-10 min mark when you talk about how that was the first attempt or build effort that got the rest of the palce built up and going.. was when i realized the true difference in build and terrain features & quality, where everything changed into a more nature flow and amazingly well thought out build into the natural surroundings. Not to undermine the top sections.. but this is a prime example of when MTB goes right! Then the community comes in and then allows access to build permits, Everything happens super fast, so the place is built quicker and with less passion/time sensitive hard work & things get blown out easier and quicker then the lower longer made sections.. maybe i’m wrong but just an observation! Love these trails for sure!

Jay, I'm not sure I understand your comment. The first section to get built was segment 3. I think Segment 5 was the next bit to get done. They all work well, and I feel like they mirror the differing terrain pretty well.

@@JeffKendallWeed Well .. i was quite possibly wrong, maybe i was just over analyzing the trail's.. just thought for a moment that maybe when you mentioned the lower trails being the first one's that showed up out there & help shape/push the importance of what good mtb could be allowed the mtb community as a whole, to come together and add on & build the rest of those amazing trail systems!!! I don't mean disrespect to the trails at all.. just saying some sections i noticed flowed and went along together well with the natural terrain & some looked very manufactured & show more signs of "blown out trail" . I Love these trails and many others just like it, i just seem to see a pattern lately with some trails staying together better than just larger man made berms for turns taking quite a bit more of a beating.. Thought maybe there is something to be said about some of the great "Natural" trails that can be build with just a little more time and care that make the biggest difference in good quality riding for all mtb lovers! Anywho I'm rambling a bit & love the channel & the trails & the bikes & just great positive vibes with amazing people you meet along the way! Big Cheer's

Yeah Flow trail was first started around 2011 or so, and I believe it was 2012 when we first rode segment 3. Sawpit was super fun, I had some rad lines on that trail, but Saw pit recently got shut down.

Jeff, you have astounding bike control. I think you mentioned racing enduro occasionally in one of your other videos. I’m wondering what separates your speed from the top enduro racers, as I can’t imagine anyone with more skill. Love the videos, keep ‘em coming!

Thanks Eric! I raced enduro pretty intensively from 2012-2016, won a handful of California enduros and even had some top 30 and top 40 stage finishes at some EWS events. I raced DH from 2003-2008, basically when it died out, as well. After my breaking my pelvis for the 2nd time early in the 2016 season I realized I needed to get more focused on what was really important- family! I can schedule the videos around family stuff much more easily than going to races and such.

Would the Ripley ls have enough travel for trails like these? Trying to choose between the mojo 3 Ripley ls and riomo. I like the travel range of Mojo's but wheel size of ripmo/Ripley

Heck yeah Ripley has enough travel for the Flow trail! I won the Flow Trail segment of the enduro race here BITD while riding an OG Ripley V1 with a 140mm fork.

I see you're riding the Ripmo more and more... I ride a Mojo 3 and love it but I'm curious why you prefer the Ripmo now? Geometry? Wheel size? Or is it because the name fits you more? ;-)

Brian, I usually travel with the Ripmo. It can handle a wider range of terrain than the Mojo3. I used the mojo 3 in Colorado with the big wide tires, and also in San Diego just to change it up. My shoulder is getting a lot better now but over the summer the Mojo 3 was much easier for me to ride with my bum shoulder. Breaking my scapula in Costa Rica was more of a serious injury than I wanted to admit.

Hello Jeff, my name is Leo and after watching your videos I decided to buy a ripmo. I am 1.76cm tall and on the ibis website I am in the middle of the size m / l. in fact the site tells me the size L, I read some reviews saying that the bike seems small and that I should go in the bigger size. what do you think? I have 1.76cm something around 5.9, inseam 82cm. Thank you for your help,

Hey Leo, thanks for the note! Definitely go L. I am 174cm and my 170mm seatpost is almost maxed out and the top tube feels a tad short when seated. I'm on a M but if I were trying to race I would consider a L. It's not a huge bike.

The audio is terrible for me right now! Audio is from my Hero Session on the helmet. That's my Ibis rear hub, it's not super loud, either.

@@JeffKendallWeed ...You don't seem to be a full face helmet guy at all, but the newer ones breathe really well, and a chin mounted Hero 7 works amazingly well. Phil did a video recently touting it, as did Daily MTB Rider, and I've been using it like that for awhile now. Take a handlebar/seatpost mount and pull the camera mount half-moon side off, and zip tie it to the bottom of the chin bar. It's stable, great audio, and sort of "splits the difference" between a chest mounted gimbal, and a helmet mounted camera....and it's really stable. I think for your riding...it would be an AMAZING perspective, because we could see where you're looking while you ride. Here's a quick video I did with mine on a casual ride. Hi Dan, I did race a few EWS events, my best result in a stage was 29th and my best overall finish was somewhere in the 50s. That was a few years ago now though, I'm focused solely on content creation moving forwards. Wow, that looks like fun! How long is the ride back to the top?! You riding down at Mach 9 for 15+min straight has got to mean it’s like an 8 hour climb to the top. I’ve posted a couple trail ride POV videos of our local Ontario trails. If you ever meet anyone who isn’t as positive about your local trails as you are, send them over to my channel and they’ll be sure to come back super stoked about what you’ve got in comparison. 😁 We still have fun though, despite a little trail envy.

LOL We don't rake our forests and I've never heard of anyone who would do that Jeff! Trump is just a crazy man... But the trails are sweet, but maybe not comparable to the trails you have there, but at least they're way different and also if you don't go very north - there isn't really much elevation, but still the trails are really fun!

HA! We have tons of trails like that here in WA! And yea Gary, I agree on the ear cam! I like a 2nd perspective but the Interceptor helmet does not have a great spot for the gopro. The Maya is much better for that!

@@JeffKendallWeed I've ridden Ollalie and that is the best smooth flowy trail I have found so far!!! but that climb to the top is a real #$$#!! Bellingham is a day trip for me living south of Seattle so I stick to the North Bend Area, my normal hangout is BDOS but it's all very short downhills but you can ride 3-4 hours non stop there! Tiger and Raging are just beyond my skill limit right now and Duthie is mainly a big air jump park. If Ollalie had shuttling I would live there!! I haven't seen another downhill come close to it so far!! I need to hit Xanadue too.
