I really like her voice, it true she has that "main character voice" but she did a good job for this character and this song

You know, I know nothing about Spring Awakening, so when I listen to this song, I imagine a land somewhere out in the country, with farmland for miles around, after a natural disaster. With each line of the song sung, it flashes to another scene of destroyed homes or crops, or horses running wild among the hills, now free after the deaths of their owners. The most notable thing is that everything is now silent. It's dark, I know, but it's _beautiful._

Part of the beauty of this song is the chaos during the fences sway part though :'( Her voice is beautiful but also hoping for a chorus version one day!

For anyone who doesn't like the show for the lack of sincerity in the storyline and a Glee ripoff can't listen to songs this beautiful and not tell me at least that the vocals in this are closer to the feeling of Smash than Glee and amazing.

Michael Griswold I currently don't love the show, but the amazing performances have just reminded me of the power of spring awakening as a show and I will continue to watch just to see these talented actors perform this show lol

Honestly, Rise is better written than Glee and the performances feel more sincere than Glee's.

BOT 2 you wouldn’t get it if you haven’t seen spring Awakening. They’re not making fun of God, there’s a very complicated meaning to it

As much as I adore this, I really wish it was a chorus singing. It’s just not a solo song. It’s not as impactful without the harmonies and the intense shifts in dynamics.

In the show she was finding herself, producing her sadness into this song. It was just her and her teacher in the auditorium. It’s something you really gotta watch but I think she was showing that she was finally accepting the role she got and so she sang this to her teacher. Showing him her sadness. It was beautiful and hearing now, it’s even more beautiful! I highly recommend this tv show

This is beautiful, but this song just isn't a solo song. It doesn't work without the harmonies (and it's meant to be sung by everyone for a reason). I don't understand why they didn't have her do Blue Wind.

If you watched the show you would understand. She’s unhappy with her role and she starts getting emotional and she’s gone through a lot and his is her learning and understanding that her role is right for her.

also, i know this is a late reply, but spring awakening is my fav show, and i adore rise. if you saw spring awakening off broadway in its first element, the song of purple summer was more focused on ilse than the chorus, for of all the main characters, she comes out “in tact” but so heartbroken. she is the only one ready to preach the story her friends had lived. melchior is too hurt still. while blue wind and the dark i know well are big moments for lise’s character, the song of purple summer is basically her defining moment

@@johott7522 um. No. The Song of Purple Summer is not about Ilse as an individual. It is about everyone, and coming together after many tragedies and finding hope in the future. It has nothing to do with her finding herself, and it wouldn't be a finale song of it was.

i didn’t say it was about her. but even as the chorus piece, it is lead by ilse. if you ever watch the show, they also highlight her by putting her in the center of the stage. the song isn’t FOR her. but the power the words hold by coming FROM her. that’s what i’m saying. while the song is for them all, ilse is now the one able to speak on what has happened. she was the closest to moritz and had a history of friendship with wendla. the more you watch the show and hear the music things fall into place. and if you don’t agree that’s totally okay! i’m just saying how i perceive this song and how i feel it works really well as a solo because of lise’s story arc! not all finales HAVE to be for the entire company some of the must powerful ones end in solos.
