Rishe Irmgard Weitzner, a duke's daughter, has a secret: she died at the age of 20 and returned to the moment five years prior when her engagement was called off. She has already experienced this time loop six times and lived out those five years a different way each time, as a merchant, a doctor, a maid, a knight, and more. Now, on her seventh go-around, she's determined to live to a ripe old age and spend it relaxing. But the moment she flees the castle with that decision in her heart, she runs into the infamously cruel crown prince of a rival kingdom, Arnold Hein. He happens to be the one who killed her during her life as a knight, but now, he seems to have taken a bizarre liking to her... and begs her to become his wife. Thus, in order to stay alive and prevent a war, Rishe utilizes her previous experiences to kick off her seventh life as the bride of an enemy nation's crown prince.

Sure, but... I'd hope anyone would assume they'd be stronger in the future with more training and experience. He doesn't know the person he's 'jealous' of is himself, but if he did I imagine he'd just think "Oh. Yeah that makes sense."

@@RakOfLamb Not sure why you would think it makes no sense its like any skill in life the more you practice it the better and stronger you get at it and considering the version of him she is thinking of is 5 years in the future it would make sense that he was considerably stronger at that point in time compared to now. Also baring in mind that the current version of him that Rishe is fighting is intentionally hindering himself by not moving from his spot, restraining his arm and leg and wearing a eyepatch so that would definitely weaken him at least a bit compared to his future self that Rishe fought who wasn't intentionally weakening himself.

I feel like every interaction between them has this underlying mental chess game...like they're trying to figure each other out. It makes their dynamic so much more interesting to watch!

Because that is exactly what is happening. Rishe is trying to figure out Arnold, to understand his motivations and why he did the things he did in her past lives, and why he is so different to that now, while Arnold is perplexed by Rishe. She knows so much, has so much talent, and yet is nowhere near old enough to have that level of experience. Her movements are the practiced motions of a master with endless training, yet her body can't keep up, showing a distinct lack thereof. She knows so much that she shouldn't, and has motivations and dreams that don't make sense unless you know she has lived multiple lives. Shes a walking contradiction, and that intrigues him. Their every interaction is trying to unravel the mysteries of the other.

For Rishe and Arnold, it’s not just verbal jesting but also physical combat as examples of the palatable tension between them, with each of them being extremely attracted to the other, but also each very wary of letting their guard down for fear of being too vulnerable.

0:54 What they are actually witnessing is a highly skilled veteran knight getting back in her groove in a weak body :) She has more experience fighting in war than any of them and none of them have any idea who they are dealing with.

a few things that im definitely not mentally ill about whatsoever: - the way they juxtapose current timeline arnold with wartime arnold. its exactly the same person, all the movements and capabilities are the same, but it really highlights the difference in attitude. sure hes relatively stoic, but in almost every side-by-side the corners of his lips are slightly upturned. even when his lips are parted in surprise and there's really no reason for him to smile, he still looks more comfortable with rishe - arnold's reaction to rishe finding his weak spot between timelines. after this clip, he says something like "it seems i underestimated you", which explains how someone virtually untouchable like him got hurt by a common soldier in the previous life and why he reacted so strongly to a simple sparring session. when his instincts kick in, they say "get rid of the threat". in the previous timeline, the threat is rishe. in the current timeline, the threat is just the sword. (this is where my thought process gets a little delulu rishe isnt a THREAT ANYMORE YIPPEEEEEE) - "focus on me just a little more" could mean "you need to focus on the sparring session" or it could also mean "stop thinking about someone else, think about me" and i shdkjfhdkjfhgkjdgfkjdg

Oooh! I love this high chemistry sparring scene! It is one of my two favorite scenes! I love that in it Arnold realizes that Rishe is thinking about someone else...someone stronger than he is!!!

I’m glad Arnold and her guards finally get to see a bit of what she can do, and she isn’t even in her prime here :) She was able to land a direct hit on his future cruel emperor self, something no one else had done as far as we know, and has many more fighting skills to boot!

@zoraackerman1684 Remember that the scar on his left side pulls on his arm as he moves, so it limits his freedom of movement a bit. So even if he writes left handed, he'd want to fight right handed. It's similar to how I shoot left handed. I'm right handed, but my right eye doesn't focus, so it's difficult to aim looking down sights. So I shoot left handed so I can aim with my good eye.

Basically he’s dominant right hand is behind him (probably was ambidextrous before the injury on his left shoulder which Rishe could tell during their fight to the death, or at least something was wrong with it)

It's mentioned in the anime that this is how Arnold trains. It prepares him and his retainers for the possibility of losing an arm, a leg and an eye, so that, even when the worst happens, they can still keep fighting. His only real injury is the shoulder scars that hamper his left arm's mobility.
