Who was the idiot who thought it was a good idea to privatise our water utilities. To turn a life essential industry into a foreign owned private monopoly, where foreign parasitic shareholders and company management can pay themselves what they like, extracting wealth from the UK economy. Water bills are going to increase, due largely to previous government neglect of this vital industry. Did they think that the problems would disappear if they passed them on to private companies? The government's policy of selling off critical industries and utilities to foreigners is one of the reasons why it can no longer balance the books, and why the cost of living is so high. The UK economy is slowly descending into that of the third world. It seems increasingly unlikely that a labour government is going to reverse this trend, as they are already signalling that they want to be a friend of "businesses", refusing to reinstate the cap on bankers bonuses. While helping productive British industries is good for the country, handing cash and tax breaks to the leeches is bad, particularly when they are based overseas. This is how wealth disappears from the UK economy forever, funneled into offshore tax havens, swelling the bank balances of foreign billionaire or supporting foreign pension funds.

The fact JP MORGAN have shares in Severn Trent water should ring alarm bells. Their beholding is to their shareholders, not cleaning up UK rivers. Thr River Wye is rife with pollution.

It is a licence to print money. The water companies do not produce anything to sell outside the UK, they are a vital service industry, without which industry cannot function and life cannot continue. The conservatives have forgotten that investors expect to take out far more than they put in. In the case of foreign investors, the money taken out disappears from the UK economy, as it is exported offshore. Any tax revenue generated is just an additional berdon on the consumer, and in no way makes up for the exported wealth. The water companies should be renationalised, and then put into not for profit trust funds to keep their income out of the hands of a thieving treasury and incompetent government management. The trust funds should be set up with a mandate to work for the public good providing the best possible service. The managers and employees of the trust should have pre agreed pay scales, to ensure that the CEOs are not tempted to fill their pockets and the trust funds expense. This arrangement is the only way to ensure that all the consumers payments are invested to provide the best service possible, and not leeched away into the pockets of parasitic shareholders. The trust arrangement would mean an end to the interests of foreign Investors. This is a recipe that should be applied to all the privatised public utilities. You might ask how these privately owned public utility cash cows can be prized from the hands of the existing private investors, the answer is simply, make ownership onerous and unprofitable by applying the legal regulation that these companies so badly need. The sale off of the public utilities was an act of theft and treason. Theft, because the utility companies were publicly owned assets, paid for by the tax payer and the consumers. The government had no right to sell what did not belong to them. It's time to take back control and stop the rot.

Simply make the investment non profitable and onerous, using a combination of badly needed regulation and price caps. This is a recipe for all the public utilities that have been stolen from the tax payer and sold to private investors. The public utilities were publicly owned assets, which the government had no right to sell.
It is depressing to note how many government contracts are award to big foreign owned companies, only to find these companies are incompetent. One must wonder who writes these contracts, as the companies involved always seem to be paid even when their work is substandard to the point of disastrous. It seems that the tax payer always foots the bill. Maybe the government might have a better chance if the companies were UK owned. I guess the only problem is that UK companies capable of doing the high tech and/or big project work have all been sold off for a quick profit. The latest example is the post office scandal and the horizon project. The government appears to be good at making promises that it is ill prepared to meet. In the Red sea, it will soon discover the cost of using expensive guided missiles to shoot down cheap drones. This points to a failure to develope and deploy directed energy weapon technology. Maybe they are expecting to buy the tech from the Americans or the Chinese. It appears to still be true that our armed forces are under fed lions led by over fed donkeys.
The conservatives are about to demonstrate the high cost of not supporting local critical industries. The country that invented the Bessemer converter is giving up virgin steel production. New electric arc furnaces will only be able to process scrap steel. The government has failed to invest in green hydrogen reduction processing. This lamentable situation is the result of decades of this country buying cheap imported steel for UK construction projects. It is now clear this was a false economy, as the UK will now be dependent on foreign suppliers for this critical raw material, needed for construction, ship building and motor manufacturing. This is another UK industry that the UK has delegated to foreign competitors to do. The UK should never have allowed this critical industry to fall into foreign ownership. The UK is about to lose the skills forever. We can add this industry to the list of things we no longer do, just like nuclear energy, electronics, computer manufacture, telecommunications. The UK has become of low skilled, or unemployed consumers. All the majority of schoolchildren need to learn is how to say "do you want fries with that".
