On the upper Ganga two of the holiest Indian towns are located: Rishikesh and Haridwar. Both are non alcoholic and fully vegetarian. Many ashrams and temples are located along the ghats, where pilgrims, sadhus and locals meet. Pictures from my visits in 1993
