Seventeen young academics at Stellenbosch University (SU) recently gave short presentations about their research as part of the FameLab competition held annually at SU. This prestigious event, aimed at enhancing public speaking and science communication skills among young scientists, saw a commendable performance from our students. Congratulations to science student Tallulah Glasby, who excelled with her insightful presentation on biological soil crusts, securing the first place and prize money of R4 000. We also celebrate Eduard Zehrt (food scientist) and Carene Sima (human geneticist), who were distinguished as runners-up, with Carene also earning the title of audience favourite. This year the SU FameLab heat was filled with captivating presentations on diverse topics ranging from ocean research and a creative solution to treating tuberculosis, to research about identifying neurotoxins from snake bites, innovative wine biotechnology and many more. The event was hosted by the Postgraduate Office, Division for Research Development. FameLab offers a global stage for these emerging scientists to hone and showcase their abilities. Join us in celebrating the achievements of these promising researchers. #FameLab #StellenboschUniversity #ScienceCommunication
