Frenchman here! Fun fact: The Mas 49 was the standard Battle Rifle of the French Army until *1979* . We held on to it when other countries had M16s, AKs, and other assault rifles. Only after was it replaced by the Famas, the latter of which is unfortunately being replaced by the HK416 due to the loss of the manufacturing plant which underwent severe financial loss and eventually went bankrupt, leading to ageing equipment and the impossibility of making new parts and rifles.

SKS used to be god tier. It was the direct competitor to the M14 back in the day but has been nerfed since then. The iron sights are good IMO but it’s so inconsistent that it makes you want to shoot yourself with it but it wouldn’t kill you in one shot and you’d become a vegetable for the rest of your life contemplating on why you chose a semi auto 10 round ak that’s weaker even though it shoots the same round.

SKS did get left behind but it remains being far more accurate than any AK and with far less recoil. SKS needed another balance pass/fix which will sadly never happen. At many times in the game, you need to be in strictly semi auto, so the SKS has its merits then. I get reminded of this when I lose shoot outs with my AK due to inaccuracy versus GI with the highly accurate low recoil M16.

You're just better off using a MAS 49 if you are going to do some long range shooting. You got a full length rifle cartridge and the option to top off half empty mags with a single clip

Why does everyone hate the SKS so much? I love it, when you're prone it has basically zero recoil and when I'm in a defending position I just find myself a comfortable spot where I'm hard to see and just shoot every american/southern traitor that tries to enter the objective. Only when you're running in wide open areas or assaulting heavily contested positions alone is it outclassed by the AK.

M2 carbine player here. can confirm its practically silent and always underestimated. you have to tap multiple times, but so does the M16, and you get faster full auto, bigger mag, better recoil and less accuracy.

The SKS’s reload is horrendously slow and you can’t tell if you are fully reloaded half the time. So many times I’ve been caught off guard cause my SKS wasn’t loaded.

Empty reloads are much faster but yeah. Kind of like the m1 garand. I wish you could top it off when half loaded by loading individual bullets or maybe half a clip.

Yeah, the reload is horribly bugged on the SKS. It looks like it ends much faster than it actually does, so you see the animation finish but it's not actually loaded for another 0.5 second or so, in which time if you sprint it cancels everything and you have to start over again.

the xm177e also sounds a lot more like an ak than the m16, this is because of the flash hider thats on it, it was made this way so special forces in vietnam wouldnt stick out when having to shoot their weapon as the enemy would likely think its just some guerillas shooting some cans or something.

@@noided4230 it’s honestly about time! Cod, battlefield, and MOH are dying breeds and it saddens me say that cause I feel up on those. But it’s time to bring in some fresh canvases and give em a chance. RS2 is literally my favorite game now, but if it weren’t for battlefield bad company 2’s Vietnam DLC, I probably would have not been interested.

Literally the only gun I struggle to get kills with is the Grease gun. I don't know why, either. It's .45 caliber, so it should hit decently hard, it's got a slow rate of fire, so it should be controllable, and it has decently clear iron sights so it should be easy to aim, yet I can't hit anything with it. Sometimes I feel like I'd do better running over to people and hitting them with it than shooting at them.

Mosin Nagant is definitely a situational weapon. I love it for long/mid distance range but using it for close combat is just not it. I got abt 50 kills with just the MN ironsight in the lighthouse in resort

Thank you for putting my baby, the m14, in the top spot. For some reason I’ve often heard that it “fires slowly,” but you can fire this thing as fast as you can click. It’s still deadly up close because of that.

Type 56S with the RPG class is the best class in the game. You just have to use the RPG as a primary and the AK folded for cqc and unfolded when the RPG is empty

The caliber of the M14 is 7.62x51 and the M1 is a .30-06 pronounced 30 aught 6 and its diameter is 7.62 x64

I only use the SKS over AK on long range maps. I did some testing and saw I was more accurate with the SKS 400m above than the AK. I think in the stats for it, it is more accurate. Still, I usually pick AK as soon as it gets short-mid range

NLF is my favorite army to play as purely so I can use the mosin-nagant. The shots Ive hit with it are nasty, and when your most used primary is bolt action, the ammo management and shot placement improves with all the other weapons, because as you said, if you miss the first shot, you die. And that carries over.

I never get used to L1A1. The F1 smg is my favourite, scout roles with these Owen/F1 flanking behind enemy line can deal very huge blow to enemy defense/attack. L1 is great, but having some Owen and F1 in buildings and rooms can give your team some advantage. The single fire is underrated, you can single shots through bunker slits or difficult enemy position. Good at long range too. I use F1 most of the time, its like M16, aim proper at the torso to get multi kills. Easy to get a heart shot as well. Maps like Operation Rice needs skillful AUS scout player, you have a pistol while basic L1A1 class do not. Clearing C tunnel is a must. The slight problem is these little SMGs are highly situational, so switch to M16 when you really need one. A good squad leader spawn is what you need when using Owen/F1.

And I could never get used to the F1. It's just the sights are so horrible and useless, which I guess makes sense since that was a common complaint historically, the Owen has much better sights and is easier to control with it's slower fire rate. And ironically I do really well with the L1A1

SKS is a top choice for me due to accuracy and not-insane recoil. Just make sure to shoot everyone two or three times and completely empty it before you reload.

I usually use the m1 carbine in campaign early war cos it’s a good substitute for the ak and also m14 and m1 g are both 30 cal but the m1 g bullet case length is longer so more powder

Carl Von Clausewitz here, the SKS is absolutely god-tier, I use it on days I feel the best. The main thing about it is that it's fairly accurate out to 150m, and very low profile. The reloading is something you have to know how to manage. Good accuracy. But given the chance I would still pick the trusty M14 tho.

Might be a bit late but essentially a carbine is "rifle" that fires pistol calibre rounds. They are typically light, easier to maneuver and they are designed for close/mid range combat. A traditional rifle (bolt actions, ak-47, m16/m14) would be a larger calibre, long barreled firearm ideal for medium/ long range.

The M14 and M1 Garand have the same caliber but the Garand fires a .3006 which has a tad longer casing but the bullet inside it is the exact same. You could take the bullet from a .3006 round and replace a .308's bullet and the round would literally still be a .308 round.

For both the M2 and especially the M1 carbine (cuz of the wire obscuring the front sight) I’d always use it zeroed to at least 180, if not 270. At close range the difference is negligible, but I find it’s way better for leading targets at range. If you aim at their belt line you’ll hit their chest, and by doing that you can just see them a lot better. Honestly intentionally zeroing too far works pretty well for any weapon with a low velocity or obstructive iron sights

I actually kind of like the iron sights on the mas49, sure they obstruct a lot of your vision but it is also really easy to get long range shots with them because of how thin the front sights are. It can be really hard to get good shots with any of the AKs as they have very wide front sights. Definitely my go-to rifle when defending the A cap on Resort.

I've been playing with Mosin Nagant since Red Orchestra: Ostfront, and no enemy M14 will change that! When possible, I take it 9/10 times, and will often change teams to get it, but I readily admit it's one of the worst rifles available. Still the most fun and especially rewarding boomstick in the game.

The difference between rifles and carbines; Carbines have shorter and unrifled barrels resulting in quicker but less accurate and powerful shots whereas rifles have longer barrels with proper rifling (grooves inside the barrel to stabilize bullets) that result in more accurate and powerful shots. In real life that’s the case (correct me if I’m wrong gun nerds), but I’m not sure if that makes a difference in game.

I really depends what I'm doing tbh. As a guerilla/behind enemy lines player I really like the m2 carbine with the 30 rounds. No reload and muzzle flash is small. Perfect. To get behind. But storming a building? No the AK will do.

you have to load the grenade by pressing C or X I can't remember the key bind, and you have to aim with it and adjust the range with the scroll wheel

Usually i just look at an obj and adjust the range to match, or you can spot a location with X and adjust the range to what it tells you to rangefind. You just aim in the direction of the target head on and if you right click it'll launch it like a mortar to the distance you zero it to.

I don't know if it's just me but I absolutely fucking hate all the AKs. Like I'm aiming at a fucking head at 50m I shoot and I miss. It feels like the ping causes my bullet to go where the recoil sends the gun so there is little point in aiming accurately. God forbid if I ever use full auto on those devils. From what I see in the video your AK behaves very differently, a much better experience.

Is it just me, or does the M14 just seem like the worst 7.62mm battle rifle in the game: worse recoil than M1 Garand or L1A1, stripper clip loading unless mag over half empty, less accurate than MAS 49... just seems like the devs tried so hard to make it feel like the IRL downgrade that it was before the M16 was issued, and then didn't bother with the other BRs.

The m14 was a failure in the military. They could not hit shit. And the wood stock would warp in the jungle. And on full auto you could not control it what so ever
