What a great match up of genuine dancing talents with Rita and Hermes so enjoyable to watch.....what a treat to see how real dancing used to be. Nice selection of video.
So interesting to see Hermes Pan in front of the camera instead of just choreographing. He danced on film with several stars including Betty Grable (see clip here on my channel). Here he makes the perfect foil for Rita Hayworth, showing off her glamour and talent. You can probably tell ...... "I like this clip a lot!"
He was Rita's lifelong friend and literally sheltered her when her marriage broke down and she was left penniless and homeless. One of the best-beloved men in Hollywood.
It's worth noting that Rita and Hermes dance was done in one uninterrupted take. None of todays chop/chop/chop cutting and pasting a number together because the performers can't dance. .
The same year Pan worked with Betty Grable, who lacked Rita's fluidity. You can see him do a rehearsal dance, 'Land on Your Feet' from 'Footlight Serenade', on YT. The difference in his creations indicates his versatility and adaptability as a choreographer. Both ladies became his close friends. They knew he would bring out the best in them without bullying.
