Thats always a plus & power rangers led by Saban even thrown some Asian female back in tv series days. Sweet. Besides if some from a certain MAGA hate diversity then they should be thankful that for 3 frigging decades, tv & previous movies almost never showed them maskless or without helmet when wearing the suits & even when it did the spotlight was mostly in whiteys so what do you have to nag about? We non MAGA are the ones who always got disturbed by the necessary evil so that show kept going, namely: Yellowface, white washing since black red or brownface were already quite an issue back in the 80s. In the series, she is the one who made the green ranger. I assume she possessed or made the green Zeo Cristal. The question never passed into my mind until I watched this scene in the theatre. That’s what I think they incorporated this element in the film, some background origin.

It's a cool way to explore the lore since in the show, it never revealed how Rita got the Green Ranger's Power Coin. In the comics, it revealed that she sent someone who was worthy to steal it and she destroyed her mother's spirit to active the coin so anyone evil can use it since her mother was pure of heart and the shield her mother wore became one with the coin. In Max Landis' script, he intended for Rita to be the original Black Ranger. I get why he did that because of black being darkness like evil, but the Green Ranger makes more sense.

Yeah, in a world where initial rejects like Andrew Garfield’s spider man are given a second chance many years after his last appearance, this franchise wasn’t even given a sequel. It’s a shame really. It’s not a critical success, but neither were any of the original power rangers movies. And in a year with the release of MCU classics like Avengers Infinity War, and the poor marketing of this film, it’s easy to understand why this film performed poorly in the box office.

I'm greatful, it stank of transformer and jj abrahms apathy. Actors were good but all of it blew.

Blame the fans if you don't go to see the movies they have no incentive to continue them

In the comics it was revelead that she stole the Power Coin a long time ago

She was never a ranger, she corrupted the green power coin and used it on Tommy. She is the daughter of master vile a conqueror and ruler of another galaxy. This is why this movie did terrible, it didn’t accurately explain who and what she was and literally everyone’s backstory was incorrect. She was just an evil sorceress. So this “I’m woooorthy” nonsense was weird and never happened. Also, Zordon was never a ranger either, the coins were created by one of his kind( Sage Ninjor) and were lost or hidden. Zordon went in search of them with Alpha. He found five and Rita found the 6th one. The only thing they got right in this movie was Rita’s hatred towards Zordon and vice versa. Little changes would’ve been ok but everything down to how the suit looked was changed. This would’ve done fine as a stand alone movie resembling the power rangers.

@@Jace_the_mace Most people, including me, don't know any of that backstory and the changes certainly are not why this movie didn't do well, it was simply too slow to entertain kids and just not appealing for most adults. It could've done better with a better script. I liked the changes in the backstory, this opening was interesting, too bad the rest of the film kinda fell flat.

That's a case when the opening are better than the rest of the movie.

I thought so when I saw her. Trini was the first go, and now Tommy is with her. The scene is now an unintended tribute to them both since Tommy was, at one point, Red Ranger, leader of the Power Rangers too.

I like the idea that all the Rangers were probably from different alien races. Would have been awesome to see the actual battle at the beginning. How could Rita be so powerful and take them all down is what I wanted to see.

It makes sense compared to original where she just happened to have the coin. But they were going off the Super Sentai material where the Red and Green Ranger were brothers and the zords were Gods, explaining why they had the coins.

Purist trolls of original Jap material are relentless & unforgiving. Only a massive dark deep web movement would lead to such a flop not rotten tomatoes bad reviews or MAGA x XD alone. Me thinks it was a combination of all the bad Mojo from West meets the bad Karma from East.

Too much drama. Not enough power rangers, literally! They only fought the minions for 1 minute, that’s it! A 2:30 hour movie and 1 minute power rangers.

Know what you mean, from what we hear about rangers and their past, it's heavily implied but there's some part of a larger organization akin to the Green Lantern Corps/Jedi Order and from that there's some kind of Galactic scale civilization that they are apart of. There were a lot of interesting ideas but they weren't well-developed or explored, or handled. There was a lot of potential but not a lot realized unfortunately.

It really bummed me out we never got a sequel to this

On the TV show, Zordon and Alpha created the White Ranger coin after the Green Ranger powers were gone for good. So it wouldn’t work if Zordon was the White Ranger. Don’t get me wrong, it does sound like a cool idea. I think that is what led to the screenwriter deciding to have Zordon as a Ranger leader in this movie.

Zordon contradicted himself when giving his speech about the purpose of the rangers Zordon said the rangers protect life, yet Zordon killed the dinos with the meteor So he was willing to kill life as long as Rita died, then got righteous about protecting life when he was dead

It was a fucking great origin telling for what’s its worth. As good as Batman Begins as being an “origin” movie. I feel people didn’t even give it a chance…

the sequel would probably have featured Tommy Oliver rumors were that the writers wanted to try a tomboy female version of Tommy, so the character may have been portrayed as a girl who uses the tomboyish nickname "Tommy" assuming that we don't go down the Lord Drakken storyline of Tommy remaining and turning evil, Tommy probably would have started out as some one manipulated and brainwashed by Rita through mind control before earning redemption and becoming the sixth ranger

I agree with you except on the suits, I thought they were quite unique. A little less "pointy" and I think they would have been better.
